A CHRISTMAS MESSAGE
God promised to send a Savior to the world, and
Jesus came among us. In return, we are called
to serve Christ and proclaim him to all. This is
easily overlooked as we get caught up in our
own pride, or focus on worldly matters. As we
look to the Nativity of the Lord, let us shake off
distractions and strive to serve Jesus and share
him with others.

There will be a Christmas Novena in our church every
evening beginning Thursday December 15 at 8:15pm
and concluding Friday December 23. Please come!

Christmas is the centre of
our history. If we truly
celebrate Christmas we
will understand That God
so loved the world that
He sent us Jesus to be
with us always, to be the
Lord of History and the
King of Hearts. Christmas
is about God's love
breaking into our world, a
flash of light in a
darkened sky.
The first Christmas carol
was sung by the angels at Bethlehem and it is the
basis of a prayer we often pray at Sunday Mass,
the Gloria; Glory to God and peace on earth is the
message. The two really go together. If we do not
give glory to God by loving and obeying Him, our
human relationships are not going to be what they
should and we will not have peace. The destroyer
of peace is selfishness and sin. Jesus came to
establish true peace based on our relationship with
God and with each other. The first Christmas
carol was a preview of Jesus' program for a good
life.
Jesus’ birth in a manger teaches something about
what is truly important. The centre is Christ. The
centre is a baby. The baby is surrounded by loving
parents and not much else. The love of Mary and
Joseph is the only treasure the Christ Child has.
Being born in poverty and simplicity is God's way
of speaking to us about what is truly important.
As we celebrate Jesus' birth in the most humble of
circumstances we are called to have compassion
for the homeless the poor; the sick and the
suffering. God is calling us to share the gifts we
have received with those in need. When we do
that, we are giving gifts to the Christ Child
Himself.
May our celebration of Christmas be a time of
recognizing that the greatest gift we have received
is God's love for us and the greatest gift we can
give is to share that love with others. Merry

4 DOMENICA DI AVVENTO
Il Vangelo secondo san
Matteo comincia con la
“genealogia di Gesù Cristo”
(Mt 1,1-17).
L’evangelista sottolinea così
che la storia che Dio ha
cominciato con Abramo ha
ora raggiunto il suo obiettivo
in Gesù Cristo. L’obiettivo
non è la fine della storia,
poiché essa continua, ma in modo nuovo. Ci
mostra fino a che punto questa storia sia nuova il
brano del vangelo di oggi che parla della “nascita
di Gesù Cristo”. San Matteo usa qui questa parola,
che può significare tutto: genesi, origine, fonte,
esistenza, divenire. Il rinnovamento completo si
prepara già al versetto 16, in cui si dice:
“Giuseppe, lo sposo di Maria, dalla quale è nato
Gesù”. È dunque chiaro che san Matteo vuol dire
che Giuseppe non era che il padre adottivo di
Gesù.
Ma chi è il vero padre di Gesù? È una domanda
che si pone anche Giuseppe nel nostro testo di
oggi. E la risposta è assolutamente chiara: è “per
opera dello Spirito Santo” che Maria aspetta un
bambino. Ma il testo esprime senza dubbio ancora
qualcosa di più. Non è perché è stato generato in
questo modo straordinario che Gesù è l’obiettivo
della storia di Israele e il fondamento di una nuova
comunità; si tratta piuttosto di capire che in Gesù
Dio si è unito con noi uomini, come rimedio
estremo e per sempre. E ciò per liberarci dalla
fatalità della colpa del peccato. Ecco perché il
figlio di Maria deve portare il nome di Gesù, cioè:
“Il Signore salva”, ed ecco perché noi possiamo
anche chiamare Gesù Emanuele, che si traduce
“Dio è con noi”. È il messaggio con il quale
Matteo inizia il suo Vangelo
UN MESSAGGIO DI NATALE
Natale è il centro della nostra storia. Se celebriamo
realmente il Natale
capiremo che Dio ha
tanto amato il mondo
che ci ha mandato
Gesù per essere sempre
con noi, per essere il
Signore della Storia e il
Re dei Cuori. Natale è
l'amore di Dio che irrompe nel nostro mondo, un
lampo di luce in un cielo buio.
Il primo canto natalizio fu cantato dagli angeli a
Betlemme ed è la base di una preghiera che spesso
preghiamo nella Messa domenicale, il Gloria;
Gloria a Dio e pace sulla terra è il messaggio.
Queste due cose devono infatti andare assieme. Se
non diamo gloria a Dio amando e obbedendo a
Lui, i nostri rapporti umani non saranno quello che
dovrebbero e non avremo pace. Il distruttore di
pace è l'egoismo e il peccato. Gesù è venuto a
stabilire la vera pace sulla base della nostra
relazione con Dio e con gli altri. Il primo canto
natalizio è stata un'anteprima del programma di
Gesù per una bella vita.
La nascita di Gesù in una mangiatoia insegna
qualcosa su ciò che è realmente importante. Il
centro è Cristo. Il centro è un bambino. Il bambino
è circondato da genitori amorevoli e poco altro.
L'amore di Maria e Giuseppe è l'unico tesoro che
Gesù Bambino ha. Essere nato in povertà e
semplicità è il modo in cui Dio ci dice ciò che è
veramente importante. Mentre celebriamo la
nascita di Gesù nelle circostanze più umili siamo
chiamati ad avere compassione per i senzatetto, i
poveri, i malati e i sofferenti. Dio ci chiama a
condividere i doni ricevuti con i bisognosi.
Quando lo facciamo, stiamo dando doni allo stesso
Bambino Gesù.
Possa la nostra celebrazione del Natale essere un
momento per riconoscere che il più grande dono
che abbiamo ricevuto è l'amore di Dio per noi e il
dono più grande che possiamo dare è quello di
condividere questo amore con gli altri. Buon
