NEL CIRCUITO 5VIE
Terza edizione e un programma sempre più ricco: il circuito delle 5VIE Art+Design è una meta da non
perdere durante questa settimana del Salone del Mobile 2016 a Milano. Situato in una delle aree più
antiche di Milano, tra le vie Santa Marta, Santa Maria Podone, Santa Maria Fulcorina, Bocchetto e del
Bollo, è una di quelle zone in cui è piacevole camminare, tra antichi palazzi nobiliari, vecchi cortili e tante
botteghe artigiane che hanno saputo mantenere il loro stile e la loro autenticità. Attraverso la creazione di
una forte brand identity, sostenuta da intelligenti strategie di comunicazione, tutta questa area di Milano è
stata interessata, da tre anni a questa parte, da iniziative culturali che ne hanno accentuato la forte connotazione artistica e artigianale. E oggi il distretto delle 5VIE mostra di essere cresciuto in termini di qualità
e quantità, presentandosi alla settimana del design con un calendario fittissimo. Ecco cosa abbiamo visto
in anteprima per voi e che vi consigliamo di non perdere.
A pochi passi di distanza si trova invece la piccola ma molto luminosa Alson Gallery (Via San
Maurilio 11), nella quale si può ammirare la mostra personale Living Metals di Gianluca Pacchioni. Artista poetico e allo stesso tempo abile artigiano, propone nuovi pezzi di assoluta eleganza in bronzo, rame e ferro, creati con la tecnica che lui chiama del metallo liquido.

Gianluca Pacchioni disegna opere con luce e metallo
Gianluca Pacchioni è uno scultore di metallo e un designer di luce. Ma i materiali e i ruoli potrebbero
funzionare benissimo se invertissimo le parole, come ci siamo detti visitando la sua mostra Living Metals,
nelle sale contemporanee della Alson Gallery a Milano.
Nel cuore delle 5vie, il distretto posh di Milano, dove l’arte antica incontra il contemporaneo, Gianluca
Pacchioni ci ha illustrato il suo metodo di lavoro: “Da quando sono tornato a Milano, dopo anni a Parigi,
mi sono riappropriato delle tecniche manuali e creo tutto qui, nel mio atelier che è un’ex fabbrica degli
anni 30 nella parte est della città. Volevo esplorare nuove tecniche per i metalli, applicarci su con processi
moderni dei materiali chimici. Sono arrivato a lavorare il metallo liquido con cui esploro i pori e le superfici delle pietre. E formo oggetti, con le mie mani”.
Alle creazioni rigorosamente imperfette, ci tiene a dire, Gianluca Pacchioni associa talvolta specchi, talvolta luci. L’ultimo pezzo esposto è il Cremino, una scultura in travertino rosso persiano ricoperto in
metallo, finanche nelle sottili gambe.
La fonderia da cui escono queste opere imponenti crea di per sé un’autorevolezza unica. Un segno di
creazione vulcanica ancestrale che comunica vita, vivacità, nel gesto, nella forma, nella esaltazione delle
fessure delle opere, che per altri sembrerebbero delle sbavature. Il mondo di Pacchioni è ricco di materia,
vive di luce e rimanda a un lusso terreno che più concreto non può diventare. È un’arte piena, piena di
elementi pesanti che solo il pensiero creativo ha potuto forgiare in opere. Che sono sapientemente votate
ad adornare gli spazi che le contengono.
Gianluca Pacchioni ha lasciato il suo marchio all’ingresso dell’amasciata italiana di Francia. Per vederlo

Oh boy. Sometimes I wonder if we’re completely crazy doing what we do with Yellowtrace, and this feeling significantly intensifies in the lead-up, during and just after the annual Salone del Mobile & Milan
Design Week. The sheer magnitude of this design event shocks me each year, and attempting to tackle the
enormous beast in order to bring you the best without missing anything is a seriously daunting task to the
point it sometimes leaves me paralysed. But then I snap out of it, pick myself up, brush off any dust and
get on with it. There is no doubt Salone is bigger than Ben-Hur, and giving you a full rundown of what
you can expect from this year’s events is an impossible task. Having said that, I couldn’t help but share
some of the products, events and installations of note to help you plan your Milan Design Week 2016
itinerary (or alternatively allow you to live vicariously through this list).
Cremino by GIANLUCA PACCHIONI // Metal sculptor and lighting designer, Gianluca Pacchioni,
will be presenting an anticipation of CREMINO: a table in red Persian Travertino, partially covered
by liquid brass, whose structure is realised by a sand-casting technique. The work, available in a limited
edition, is the manifestation of the sculptor-designer’s recent production, which is devoted to experimentations with liquid metals. Through this method, Pacchioni turns the solid into liquid and fixes the organic
material into the eternal.

After twenty years spent twisting and rusting metals, Gianluca Pacchioni has moved away from his signature projects to go further, expanding his great knowledge of metal to new applications made possible by
the chemical development of the materials and by a new focus on other materials such as stone, perfectly
aligned with current trends. The rust has been replaced by liquid metal, with its endless use potential and
with which the designer explores the pores and surfaces of the stone and of the surrounding world. Of
all the countless variations on the combination of metals and techniques which canbe used, Pacchioni
has chosen to present at the Salone as a preview his latest opus: the Cremino. A side table sculpture in
Persian red travertine partially covered with liquid brass and produced structurally with loam mould castings. Gianluca loves to make his life complicated and the legs of the side table, very slim yet structural,
first engraved in the metal, are, in the final version, made by the casting technique so as to be less a piece
of furniture and more a sculpture, with the physical presence of imperfection and the power of metal
worked in the foundry. The collection and, more generally, his work, could be defined as a celebration of
imperfection. Significantly Pacchioni highlights the scar, the pore, the rough and unfinished in relation
to cutting and immortalises those which for others are defects of the material, bejewelling them and validating them. It is no coincidence that two cast sculptures complete the installation, with a woman’s head
and a sicilian cedar, cut so as to symbolise a beauty which is more inner than exterior. The Cremino, in
a limited edition, therefore acts as a manifesto of the recent output of the sculptor designer dedicated to
experimenting with liquid metal, with which Pacchioni transforms the solid into liquid and sets the organic in eternity. Like in large decorative panels with palm bas-relief, made in patinated liquid brass so as to
transform the plant imprint into a decoration fixed in time. The liquid metal technique becomes the new
filter with which to revisit and rework some historic pieces from his collection such as the Cut lights or the
Pupil mirror-sculpture. The pieces, worked now with this technique, allow endless variations to be added
in terms of finishes with which the base metals can be treated. Pacchioni, the keeper of many secrets and
techniques, leads the visitor through the meanders of the forge of Hephaestus.

Pacchioni è capace di trasformare il metallo in luce ed il solido in liquido. Dopo una lunga carriera di
scultore della luce, quest’anno Pacchioni presenta i “CREMINI”, una nuova collezione di side tables/
sculture, in cui abbina diversi metalli a blocchi di travertino persiano in parte ricoperti con del metallo
liquido. La tecnica che il designer sperimenta permette di fossilizzare in fusion liquide elementi naturali
del mondo vegetale , trasformandoli così in elementi decorativi con cui trasformare il concetto di interior.

trasforma bronzo, rame e ferro in pupille giganti e librerie collassanti. Parteciperà al FuoriSalone con la
personale “Living Metals”: dieci pezzi alla Alson Gallery all’interno delle 5Vie. Alcuni li abbiamo visti in
anteprima nella sua officina
«A Milano le cose più belle sono nascoste», dice Gianluca Pacchioni spuntando dalle piante del suo
giardino, un cortile interno nella zona Est della città dove in una vecchia fabbrica di collirio ha ricavato
studio, casa e officina, prima che la stazione ferroviaria di Forlanini inauguri la periferia dichiarata, quei
campi che si chiudono con l’aeroporto di Linate. Pacchioni è un cinquantenne dai capelli lunghi, sta paragonando la capitale morale d’Italia a Parigi, spudorata e democratica: la città in cui ha sperimentato un
apprendistato quasi à la Barney Panofsky dopo una laurea alla Bocconi. In realtà il principio è illuminante, e appare coerente con il suo lavoro di scultore e art designer che lavora i metalli: la bellezza è nascosta.
