9° INU STUDY DAY OF INU ITALIAN NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF URBAN PLANNING Green and Blue Infrastructures, Virtual, Cultural and Social Networks Naples, December, 18-19 2015 Department of Architecture – University of Naples Federico II Via Forno Vecchio 36 - Naples CALL FOR PAPERS Urban infrastructures are the public part of cities, although their hubs are often grafted in private lots and buildings. The 9° Study Day is aimed at considering these nets in all their declinations as: public spaces of encounters, service and expression of symbols and culture of people, and factors of their identity; a complex of both eco-systemic services and resilience tools; material and immaterial media; public and private transport service support; net of distribution of energy, including technology of generation and saving with a more and more extended use of renewable sources; system of circularization of natural resources - as water and raw materials, including the waste cycle for the three R’s - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle – rules. Although each sectorial approach and specific point of view maintains its value of knowledge and proposal, the call for paper encourages transversal and interdisciplinary studies which are capable to illustrate the complexity of the infrastructures where the aforementioned aspects and synergy among them are synthetized and exalt the proposals. Centrality of nets and infrastructures for cities of tomorrow are determined by the current crisis, a real turning point which constrains to think at a whole renovation of human settlement to make it sustainable and remedy social inequality. A vision of life in harmony with nature is more and more diffused within the nowadays culture and puts in evidence a question of technical coherence whose consequences imply a revolution of consolidated disciplinary acquisition together with the reformulation of specific repeatable solutions. Only a wide collective job which face the more different aspects of the urban armature and its public skeleton may delineate the city skyline capable to answer to the different skills currently required. This city has a responsibility of management of the space which is not anymore limited to little urbanized areas but extends its influence to the whole globe trough the process of urbanization and suburban extension. In continuity with the 8° Inu Study Day, the implementation of innovative solutions on the material and immaterial net and infrastructure systems constitute a guide to orient urban policies investing on wide works and which, although with a limited succession of interventions, progressively realize the whole urban regeneration. The relationships between old and new connections make arise new kinds of virtual, social and cultural nets due to always more complex demands of connections among places, people and temporalities. Communities, boundaries and thicknesses require a redefinition of both formal and informal practices, protocols, policies, planning tools. Decision makers and citizens need knowledge which can mature in the framework of the urban planning discipline, also using its traditional opening to the other scientific knowledge for a cost-benefit analysis of the renewal and direct the investment of the resources assisted by reliable estimates of the effects. The aforementioned questions will be discussed in the following tracks: 1. Resilience Coordinator: Carlo Gasparrini Discussant: Franco Rossi 2.
