RESEARCH INTERESTS
AREAS OF COMPETENCES
Theoretical and comparative syntax, with a special focus on syntactic topics such as the Verb Second (V2)
phenomenon, OV/VO word orders, (null) referential and expletive subjects; multilingualism; contact
linguistics; monolingual and bilingual language acquisition; language variation and change; diachronic
syntax.
AREAS OF SPECIALIZATION
I specialise on the syntax of the German dialect Mòcheno, a speech-island variety spoken in the Fersina
valley (Northern Italy, Trentino) which I investigated from both an empirical and a theoretical perspective.
My empirical work on Mòcheno adult and child syntax is a milestone in the description of this language.
By comparing the syntax of Mòcheno with that of (old) Romance, (old) Germanic and African languages
(in particular Dinka), I have contributed in an original way to the theoretical debate about the nature of the
V2 phenomenon, the distribution of OV/VO word orders, the triggers for syntactic change, the nature of
syntactic movement, the syntax of referential (null) subjects.
