Chi l’ha detto che per potersi muovere con
competenza e creatività nel campo delle materie
plastiche bisogna per forza essere un bravo
tecnico o “perlomeno” un ingegnere? Dopo il
liceo scientifico Antonio Garegnani ha studiato
legge e solo per caso ha incontrato, nello studio
dove faceva pratica da legale, la persona che lo
ha portato sulla strada tutt’affatto diversa
dell’imballaggio. L’incontro ha avuto esiti
imprevedibili: oggi Garegnani si ritrova
“inventore” e imprenditore, titolare della Akro
Flex, nel campo dei film estensibili per la
palettizzazione, dove ha personalmente
formulato (e brevettato) una linea originale di
prodotti che stanno incontrando il favore del
mercato.
Il suo (e il loro) segreto? La semplicità, afferma
Garegnani, ovvero «quella capacità di trovare la
soluzione più lineare anche ai problemi
complessi, a cui mi hanno allenato da un lato
l’hobby della pittura, che chiede innanzitutto di
saper osservare, e dall’altro la mia grande
passione per il volo e per la progettazione degli
aerei da acrobazia, che sono una grande palestra
per lo spirito e la mente». E, in effetti, i film della
Akro Flex - commercializzati con i marchi
Estenpack, Green Skin e, prossimamente,
Thermogreen - si presentano come l’uovo di
Colombo. Simili, in apparenza, alle commodity

Flex. Who tells us how he
managed to convert commodities
into special performance products
while also announcing other new
features in the offing.
Whoever said you had to be a good technician or “at
least” an engineer to be able to skilfully and
creatively move in the field of plastics? After
attending the scientific lyceum Antonio Garegnani
studied law and only by chance, while doing a stage
in a law firm, met the person who set him on the way
to the very different field of packaging. The
encounter has had some unexpected outcomes:
today Garegnani is a packaging “inventor” and
entrepreneur, head of Akro Flex, operating in the
field of stretchfilm for palletization, where he has
personally formulated (and patented) an original line
of products that are encountering the favors of the
market.
His (and their) secret? Simplicity Garegnani states,
già presenti sul mercato, offrono in realtà una
serie di prestazioni “speciali” per la
palettizzazione di carichi difficili, e stanno
attestando Akro Flex come fornitore di
importanti aziende nei settori più disparati, dal
beverage alla siderurgia.
Due i motivi all’origine di questa affermazione.
Da un lato, l’aver saputo individuare (e
realizzare) alcune caratteristiche utili a garantire
l’integrità e la durata di palette instabili o
particolarmente pesanti, di prodotti fragili e di
merci con necessità di traspirazione, sviluppando
dunque un’offerta di nicchia caratterizzata da un
reale valore aggiunto in servizio. Dall’altro, aver
messo a punto un ciclo di trasformazione
semplice e automatico che consente di realizzarli
a velocità, e a costi, che li rendono competitivi.
Consapevole delle difficoltà ad accreditarsi in un
settore dominato dai grandi produttori e
converter di materia plastica, Garegnani ha
deciso di documentare la qualità dei propri
prodotti, e di tutelarne, con un brevetto, paternità
e caratteristiche peculiari. Eccole.
Il segreto della rete
Quanto possa essere efficace la semplicità è
evidente nel film a rete Green Skin 2T che in
bobina sembra un estensibile “normale” ma che,
in fase di stiro, genera delle aperture reticolate
molto ampie (le maglie della rete, appunto) con
una funzione traspirante. Ottenuto accoppiando
due film di LLDPE su cui, con un procedimento
originale, vengono ricavate delle zone di
indebolimento e di pre-rottura superficiale, Green
Skin evita infatti la formazione di condense e
muffe e viene quindi impiegato per la
stabilizzazione di carichi di prodotti caldi, umidi
o bagnati e, più in generale, che necessitano di
raffreddamento, evaporazione, essiccazione e
aerazione. Di più, questa configurazione
permette di raggiungere rapidamente la
temperatura di surgelazione così come di liberare
l’umidità in eccesso, tipicamente dopo un
trattamento di pastorizzazione o nella
palettizzazione a fine linea dei prodotti da forno.
Inoltre, rispetto ai film classici, contribuisce a
salvaguardare l’integrità delle casse di cartone
contenenti i prodotti, che giungono a
destinazione senza deformazioni nè macchie di
condensa, con un evidente miglioramento
dell’immagine del produttore.
«Green Skin 2T - spiega Garegnani - è stato
progettato per poter “girare” su tutte le macchine
esistenti, senza necessità di modifiche e
conservando quindi le caratteristiche di
semplicità ed economicità di applicazione anche
in automatico. Ma non solo: il maggior costo di
produzione, generato dall’accurata selezione
delle materie prime e dalla lavorazione
particolare, viene ampiamente compensato
dall’impiego di accoppiatrici realizzate su nostro
disegno in modo da ridurre i passaggi e
aumentarne la velocità. Inoltre, l’allungamento
del 300% in fase di pre stiro e una tenacia e

And in actual fact Akro Flex’s films - traded under
the Estenpack, Green Skin and soon under the
Thermogreen brand - are like Columbus’s egg.
Similar in appearance to the commodities already
present on the market, they in actual fact offer a
series of “special” performances for palletizing
difficult loads, and have enabled Akro Flex to make
a name for itself as a supplier of important
companies in the most varied sectors, from
beverage to steelworking.
Akro Flex’s output is special on two counts. On the
one hand, for the company’s having been able to
identify (and create) characteristics useful in
guaranteeing the upkeep and duration of unstable or
particularly heavy pallets and of fragile products or
merchandise that need to transpire, hence
developing a niche offer featuring a real added value
in service. On the other hand because for their
devising a simple and automatic conversion cycle
enabling the films to be manufactured at speeds and
costs making them competitive.
Aware of the difficulty of making a name for oneself
in a sector dominated by the great plastics
producers and converters, Garegnani has decided to
document the quality of his own products, protecting
paternity and special characteristics by patent. Here
follows a list of the same.
The secret of web structure
How effective simplicity can be is evident in Green
Skin 2T web film that on reels appears like a
“normal” stretchfilm but that, when stretched,
generates broad reticular openings (the meshes of
the grid) enabling transpiration. Obtained by bonding
two LLDPE films, on which - with an original
procedure - weakened surface pre-breakage areas
are obtained. Green Skin in fact prevents the
formation of condensation and mildew and is hence
used for stabilising loads of hot, humid or wet
products and, more in general, products in need of
cooling, evaporation, drying and airing. What is
more, this configuration allows one to quickly
achieve freeze temperatures in the same way as
they allow excess humidity to be freed, typically after
pasteurisation or in end-of-line palletization of baked
products. As well as that, compared to classic films,
they help safeguard the cardboard boxes containing
the products, that reach their destination without
being misshapen or without condensation stains,
offering evident improvements on product image.
«Green Skin 2T - Garegnani explains - has been
designed for use on all existing machines, without
need of modification and hence preserving the
characteristic of simplicity and economy of
applications, this also automatically. But not only
this. The greater production costs, generated by a
careful selection of raw materials and by special
processing, is broadly compensated for by the use
of bonding machines created to our design so as to
reduce the number of phases and increase speed.
As well as that, the 300% lengthening in the
prestretch phase and a particularly high puncture
resistance and tenacity allows one to reduce
thickness as well as number of wraps around the
load, with evident savings on the quantity of material
needed».
From extra strong to bicolor
Less visible but equally sensitive the characteristics
of Estenpack, expressly designed for guaranteeing

Dall’extra strong al bicolore
Meno visibili ma altrettanto sensibili le
caratteristiche dell’Estenpack, espressamente
progettato per garantire la stabilità di carichi
pesanti e instabili come, per citare l’applicazione
più tipica, i fardelli di acqua minerale non
gassata in PET. Sviluppato in più modelli, con
diverso spessore e numero di strati, nella
versione E 2T questo film ad alto prestiro
presenta una forza di serraggio particolarmente
elevata, che permette di ridurre lo spessore e
diminuire il numero di avvolgimenti attorno al
carico. Anche l’Estenpack è ottenuto con una
lavorazione particolare, che forma delle zone di
irrobustimento - sorta di strisce longitudinali
bordate agli estremi - che, una volta tese,
fungono da cordoni per assicurare la stabilità del
carico. «Estenpack - spiega Garegnani - nelle
versioni 2001 e 2002 è invece talmente robusto e
resistente alla punturazione da poter essere
impiegato, per esempio, per l’imballaggio di
prodotti del settore siderurgico, ma anche come
alternativa ai cappucci termoretratti, rispetto ai
quali permette di conseguire significative
economie in termini di rapidità di applicazione,
riduzione del peso e risparmio energetico».
A completamento dell’offerta, oltre ai più
tradizionali film prestirati per applicazioni
meccanizzate e manuali (anche addittivati) e alle
mini bobine per avvolgimenti rapidi, Akro Flex
produce alcune varianti semplici ma interessanti
dei più sofisticati prodotti brevettati. «Estenpack
2 - afferma Garegnani - è nato quasi per gioco,
pensando al fatto che negli aerei le parti
strutturali sono lamellari e scommettendo che,
anche nella plastica, accoppiando materiali con
spessori diseguali avrei ottenuto un film dalle
superiori caratteristiche di planarietà. Infatti,
questo prodotto presenta un’ottima resistenza
meccanica e un allungamento del 250%.
Declinato poi in versione bicolore (si chiama
“NB”, che sta per nero e bianco) svolge, allo
stesso costo di un pigmentato normale, due
funzioni in più: fa da barriera alla luce e riflette il
calore, proteggendo ulteriormente il carico
delicato».
Dettagli e progetti di qualità
La stessa attenzione alle esigenze del mercato
che ha ispirato la formulazione dei film Akro
Flex, si manifesta su altri piani della vita
dell’azienda. A partire dal servizio di gestione “a
rendere” delle anime delle bobine, che ne
valorizza i plus ambientali ed economici. «I
nostri film - spiega Antonio Garegnani - vengono
avvolti su supporti di PVC riutilizzabili, che sono
particolarmente apprezzati dai clienti dotati di
sensibilità ambientale e che, inoltre, vengono

models, with different thicknesses and number of
layers, in the E 2T version this high prestretch film
has a particularly high securing force, that allows
one to reduce thickness and reduce the amount of
wraps around the load. Estenpack is also obtained
through a special working, that forms strengthened
areas - a sort of strip with bordered edges running
lengthwise - that once stretched, act as draw lines
for stabilising the load. As Garegnani explains
«Estenpack in the 2001 and 2002 versions is so
sturdy and has such a high puncture resistance to
be able to be used for example, for packaging
products in steelworking, but also as an alternative
to heatshrink hoods, compared to which it enables
the achievement of important savings in terms of
rapidity of application, weight reduction and energy
savings».
To complete the offer, as well as the more traditional
prestretched films for mechanised and manual
applications, (also with additives) and minireels for
rapid wrap, Akro Flex produces some simple but
interesting variants of the most sophisticated
patented products. «You could say - Garegnani
states - we created Estenpack 2 for fun, thinking of
the fact that in aeroplanes the structural parts are
lamellar and intuiting that, also with plastic, bonding
materials of different thickness we would have
obtained a film with superior features in terms of
flatness. In actual fact this film offers optimum
mechanical resistance and 250% stretching.
Declined in bicolor versions (the “NB” stands for
nero/bianco - black/white) it also fulfils two extra
functions at the same cost of a normal pigment: it
acts as a barrier to light and reflects heat, further
protecting the delicate load».
Details and projects of quality
The same attention to the needs of the market that
inspired the formulation of Akro Flex film, is also to
be seen on other levels of the life of the company.
Starting off from the “returnable” service of the reel
cores, that enhance environmental and economic
plus points. As Antonio Garegnani goes on to
explain «our films are wrapped on reusable PVC
cores, that are particularly appreciated by our
customers with environmental sensibility and that, as
well as that, are reimbursed at the moment they
return the same, thus avoiding disposal costs. One
has an overall saving that contributes to lowering the
cost of these products, contributing to also making
them competitive on an economic level».
The Lombard firm’s service attitude is also to be
found in its plans for growth abroad, founded on a
pragmatic good sense and its leaning to partnership.
«A well-known company that builds extruders Garegnani goes on to say - is interested in trading
our products in southeast Asia as a bridgehead for
the penetration of a series of markets, and we are
checking out the possibility of an agreement. More
generally, given that Akro Flex does not have a
trade network capable of following the areas outside
Europe directly, a way of indirectly reaching abroad
could be that of ceding technology to complimentary
companies».
All the same, the most important growth projects
concern the devising of new products, in special
time with a broad range of applications. Like the
latest creation (and patent) about to be placed on
the market that marks Akro Flex’s entrance into the
world of heatshrink. It is called Thermogreen, is
produced at low thicknesses with the help of a
sophisticated bonding technology, and has been
especially conceived for bundling bottles of mineral

L’attitudine al servizio dell’azienda lombarda si
ritrova anche nei progetti di crescita all’estero,
fondati su un pragmatico buon senso e sulla
propensione alla partnership. «Una rinomata
azienda costruttrice di estrusori - dice Garegnani
- è interessata a commercializzare nel Sud Est
asiatico i nostri prodotti come “testa di ponte”
per la penetrazione di una serie di mercati e
stiamo verificando la possibilità di un accordo in
tal senso. Più in generale, dato che Akro Flex
non dispone di una rete commerciale in grado di
seguire direttamente le aree extra europee, una
via per raggiungere indirettamente l’estero
potrebbe essere proprio la cessione di tecnologia
ad aziende complementari».
Tuttavia, attualmente i progetti di crescita più
importanti riguardano la messa a punto di nuovi
prodotti, a un tempo specializzati e ad ampio
spettro d’applicazione. Come l’ultimo nato (e
brevettato) di prossima commercializzazione, che
segna l’ingresso di Akro Flex nel segmento dei
termoretraibili. Si chiama Thermogreen, viene
prodotto a bassi spessori con l’ausilio di una
sofisticata tecnologia d’accoppiamento, ed è stato
concepito espressamente per l’affardellaggio di
bottiglie d’acqua minerale e soft drink in PET. Di
lui si sa, per ora, solo l’essenziale: vanta
un’elevata trasparenza, una buona stampabilità e,
soprattutto, un sensibile abbattimento dei
consumi energetici in fase di retrazione. Ulteriori
