Questa raccolta di canzoni scelte dai ragazzi di Terza AE scaturisce da un percorso partito dalla
commemorazione del quattrocentesimo anniversario della morte di William Shakespeare.
Siamo partiti da:

Abbiamo letto il sonetto 130 che Shakespeare dedica alla donna amata, usando un'ironica
descrizione del suo aspetto fisico non proprio perfetto e del suo pesante modo di incedere. Si
deduce una parodia dei poemi scritti dai suoi contemporanei che imitavano lo stile di Petrarca, con
le lodi per una donna angelicata e irreale.
My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun;
Coral is far more red, than her lips red:
If snow be white, why then her breasts are
dun;
If hairs be wires, black wires grow on her
head.
I have seen roses damask'd, red and white,
But no such roses see I in her cheeks;
And in some perfumes is there more
delight
Than in the breath that from my mistress
reeks.
I love to hear her speak, yet well I know
That music hath a far more pleasing sound:
I grant I never saw a goddess go,—
My mistress, when she walks, treads on the
ground:
And yet by heaven, I think my love as rare,

Dopo aver letto e commentato ogni strofa, abbiamo elencato i “negative comparisons” (paragoni
negativi) che Shakespeare usa per descrivere la donna amata e quindi abbiamo immaginato cosa
invece avrebbe scritto Petrarca.

Abbiamo discusso dell'importanza della bellezza in amore e di ragione e sentimento.
Abbiamo poi pensato a canzoni o poesie sul tema dell'amore per una persona, ironiche
oppure no. I ragazzi sono stati liberi di scegliere la canzone o la poesia che preferivano nella
lingua che preferivano, poi avrebbero dovuto spiegarla ai compagni. C'è chi ha fatto un
lavoro semplice e chi più articolato, ma tutti hanno lavorato volentieri e spiegato IN
INGLESE la loro scelta, spesso commentando strofa per strofa.
