Sincerely is generally the formal closing of a business letter or an ‘e-mail. The omission of a comma after Sincerely can become a system failure, a complication that does not allow the attainment of an imposed perfection. The video is meant to represent in a physical way the frustration of not being able to get closer to a subjective perfection, imposed from above from expectations of others. Each steel cable traps and squeezes increasingly the flesh. More force is used to reach the goal more the cables are stretched. The body then can only touch the target a few inches away, apparently inviolable and immutable. The galaxy weighs 0, with a mass of 3 X 10 ^ 42 The mass of the Milky Way is 10 to the power of 42. 42 (forty-two) is the natural number immediately after 41 and 43 immediately preceding. In the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy 42 is the “Answer to the fundamental question of life, the Universe and Everything”; Then 42 screens representing all humanity, play the same video at the same time. The screens represent the very lives of the people who live their existences unbearable and homologated by trying to remake the world in a way that makes sense, try to give consistency to every gesture, find the answers to each question in the illusion that the light in the end, will be the richest and most significant event. D’altronde “in heaven everything is fine, you got your good thing, and i’ve got mine, in heaven everything is fine, you got a your good thing, and you’ve got mine”. Colonna sonora “In Heaven Everything is Fine” cover di Emanuele Nicolotti Proiezioni “Naqoyqatsi - life as war”, Godfrey Reggio, 2002 Humanity is sitting around a table, arranged as the Last Supper of Leonardo. Five people like the five continents symbol of the Olympic Games and the human race. On the table there is only a roasted chicken, as in an 1980 sick TV spot. While projections of real nightmares invest humanity, its representatives began eagerly to take and eat more meat as possible, until all that remains is a pile of bones. On the other hand “in heaven everything is fine, you got your good thing, and I’ve got mine, in heaven everything is fine, you got a your good thing, and you’ve got mine.” Soundtrack “In Heaven Everything is Fine” cover by Emanuele Nicolotti Background projections “Naqoyqatsi - life as war”, Godfrey Reggio, 2002 L’INFLUENTE Libro d’Artista #1 of 4 17X23 cm 2012 Artist Book #1 of 4 17X23 cm 2012 The closed world of the art school keeps bacilli permanently circulating and students permanently infected and sick. L’INFLUENTE is an artist’s book, born as an incubator for influences, which obsessively collects groups of thought from others preserving and breeding them. Influences are included as intrusions within the text, which talks about the symbolic power established by the academic institution, that, intended to forge prototypes of student and teacher, distributes credentials, titles which reproduce the power of the institution making it recognizable even outside the institution itself. We must unveil the “symbolic violence”, as Pierre Bourdieu calls it, if we want to fight it and this awareness, in L’INFLUENTE, comes through acknowledging the influence processes that occur constantly in everyday life. Influence is a traumatizing attack from outside with a destructive force, but it’s a fundamental step in the formation of artistic personalities, it is a way out from patterns of perception, thought and action related to the power, acting inside the isolated and protected environment within the academic institution. Influence can lead to an awareness of the symbolic violence, knowledge that may bring to an individual and social revolution. Create your own enemies then fight, destroy and merge them within your body. Steal their identity and make it yours. Make their blood become your blood so it becomes your glory. Without enemies you can’t survive, as you have no reasons to do it. They are fundamental parts of your identity, facets that compose your guardian shield. It’s said that the word queer it’s related to the German word quer that means diagonally or transverse, so it can be associated to a charge used in heraldry called baton sinister. This is a diminutive of a bend sinister and constitutes a narrow strip that runs from the upper right to the lower left of a coat of arms. In its bare simplicity, is conceived as a mark of illegitimacy, seldom used often it was a bastardized version of an older coat. For this is mostly known as a symbol of bastardy. From now on I will talk about heroes not in line with the mainstream culture, the so called Transversal Heroes. Due poster, BAREBACKERS GENEALOGIC TREE e MEMBERSHIP HAS ITS PRIVILEGES, commemorano eroi che, secondo la cultura tradizionale non potrebbero nemmeno essere considerati tali, mentre un’installazione all’interno di un bagno, TOILET, diviene il loro santuario. http://deathbeyond.org/stu/corinne-mazzoli BATON SINISTER OR HOW SUBCULTURE COULD FORGE TRANSVERSAL HEROES is an installation conceived for the collective exhibition Baton Sinister, Norway Pavilion in the 54ˆEsposizione Internazionle d’Arte di Venezia. Researches where inspired and supported by Bjarne Melgaard, norwegian artist based in New York. The starting point was a study of queer theory with a sensible attention to queercore subculture, that working with the Do It Yourself ethic and fighting against the tradition matches with the punk culture. My focus here is on the Barebacking subculture, the practice of having unprotected sex with the risk or the will of spreading the HIV virus. The study of heraldry becomes useful to build up an iconography made concrete throw the realization of two shields which represent the concepts of COOL and UNCOOL and a banner, the QUEERCORE. Two posters, BAREBACKERS GENEALOGIC TREE e MEMBERSHIP HAS ITS PRIVILEGES, commemorate heroes which, according to the mainstream culture may not even be considered as such, while an installation within a bathroom,TOILET, becomes a shrine in their honor. http://deathbeyond.org/stu/corinne-mazzoli “Distinct from an infrequent slip-up, drunken mishap or safer-sex “relapse”, barebacking represents a conscious, firm decision to forgo condoms and, despite the dangers, unapologetically reveal in the pleasure of doing it raw”. The posters BAREBACKERS GENEALOGIC TREE and MEMBERSHIP HAS ITS PRIVILEGES are created specifically to celebrate Transversal Heroes as they celebrate ancestors and war heroes, with a genealogical tree, which suggests kinships created artificially in this case through the fluids exchange, with the aim of infecting strangers transforming them into consanguineous in order to keep having sex with them. In the core of the tree Scott O’Hara “father” of the Barebackers, who died of AIDS in 1998, and all around the crocodiles represent a harbinger of death because in italian journalism il coccodrillo (the crocodile) is a predeath obituary, ready to be used. The second poster depicts a war memorial, this because Barebackers define themselves as living tombs. The list of names is based on three production companies of independent Barebacking pornography: Dick Wadd Media, the producer of which is Dick Wadd, Hot Desert Knight Productions, runned by Ray Butler and Treasure Island Media by Paul Morris. The choices of the actors’ names are based on the certainty some of them have publicly declared their being seropositive so, having starred in the same films, the percentage that everyone is HIV + is quite high. MEMBERSHIP HAS ITS PRIVILEGES posters 70x100 MEMBERSHIP HAS ITS PRIVILEGES posters 70x100 Sempre all’interno della mostra Baton Sinister nasce l’installazione in situ TOILET, tempio di intimità plastificata, ulteriore riflessione sulla pratica del Barebacking. Also in the exhibition Baton Sinister TOILET installation in situ, laminated temple of intimacy, further reflection on the practice of Barebacking. Pitacco, Venezia. Futuroscopio is a one issue’s magazine and blog designed collectively by students of the main italian faculties of arts and design. The Syndrome of Cassandra is the talent of imagining new worlds, foreseeing unthinkable scenarios and the destiny to not be believed. Just tell people only what they want to hear, tell them stories they want to believe to. It’s important to have someone who talks about evident realities. Everything else is pure madness, they will never believe you. The Syndrome of Cassandra is an ongoing project settled by many parts destined to evolve in order to create an imaginary panorama representing an unreal event. The news-story images collected represent an apocalyptic sight on future, they are ready to become commodities to be sold on market: #1 video, editing with the use of found footage from youtube that shows the catastrophe. #2 photomontage, reproducible in postcard 11x15,5 or poster 50x70 created to be sold as souvenir of the future Venice. These finds will be useful to enhance the prophesy of an apocalyptic scenario, the death of Venice that just like Atlantis, is destined to sink in the abyss. CONTRASTI TRA VENEZIA E ISTANBUL Video 3’50’’ in: TRA Venezia e Istanbul, progetto curato da Antoni Muntadas Jarach Gallery,Venezia, 2008 MSGSU Tophane Culture Center, Instanbul European Capital of Culture 2010 https://vimeo.com/19503256 Video 3’50’’ in:TRA Venezia e Istanbul, progect curated by Antoni Muntadas Jarach Gallery,Venezia, 2008 MSGSU Tophane Culture Center, Instanbul European Capital of Culture 2010 https://vimeo.com/19503256 Venezia e Istanbul, due città a confronto. Cimiteri e Mercati, due luoghi a confronto. Culture differenti, lingue differenti, persone differenti. Venice and Istanbul, two cities in contrast. Burying Grounds and Market Places, two sites in contrast. Different cultures, different languages, different people. But are we sure about this difference? By analysing Burying Grounds and Markets, by working on Foucault’s analysis of Heterotopia - or spaces of alternate ordering, I underlined the importance of these locations as heterotopic sites in which the modern social ordering is developed. Once you are looking at these images you gradually become aware of the fact that the places in Venice are not so different from those in Istanbul. They are sites of connection between people. The dichotomy between death and life is strongly underlined also through the switch of audio traces: an apparently silent place like a Burying Ground can therefore be accompanied by a noisy audio, while a really crowded place by a kind of silence or the voice of the Muezzin that calls the believers to come to prayer. At the end all of the audios are blended together to remark that the edge between one and the other place is a really thin line that can easily disappear, in order to be “in contrast” within the title.
