Potassium Ferricyanide–Nitric Acid test (specific for austenitic steel).
Ricerca Chimica Group is able to supply its customers with the above-mentioned test in order to
verify a proper Passivation on the Stainless Steel Surface. The Test is practical and safe.
R.C. FERROXYL TEST (ASTM A380-99 e A967-01)
Test for detecting the presence of iron traces on the stainless austenitic steel surface (AISI 304- 316)
R.C. Ferroxyl test is an highly sensitive test to detect free iron
traces or iron oxides on stainless steel surface. The test could be
used in order to verify a possible pollution of surface due to:
engravings made by iron tools,
iron salts deriving from an unsuitable washing after the pickling
iron dust,
iron deposits in weldings,

iron inclusions
etc.
Uses:
1) Pour the REAGENT B into the test-tube containing the REAGENT A up to the suggested level.
2) Plug it up and shake energetically until the whole dissolution of the REAGENT A (about 1 minute).
3) Apply on surface to be tested by means of a cotton pad (in supplied) or spraying it.
The appearance of blue spots after a few seconds shows the presence of free iron.
In order to detect the presence of oxide scales you need to wait for a few minutes.
The solution must to be removed as soon as possible from the surface by means of a careful washing.
NOTE: In order to remove possible blue traces caused by the reaction to the test, it will be useful to use the washing
liquid contained in the kit.
Instructions:
Use the product wearing gloves and glasses and avoiding breathing.
The potassium ferricyanide in standard conditions is stable, however if it exposed to heat sources or concentrated acid
it could release hydrocyanic acid extremely dangerous.
In case the test is employed on materials aimed to get in touch with food, beverage, drugs or other products aimed to
human consumption, it should be necessary that every trace of the used test solution is efficiently removed.
