SERVAS LOMBARDIA organizes
the initiative SERVAS BY BIKE between Bergamo and Milan
on saturday May 30th, sunday 31st and monday June 1st, 2015
 Would you like to be part of an international group of Servas friends that will ride a bike and
enjoy the local Servas hospitality?
Servas Lombardia, in collaboration with Servas Italy, is forming an organized group that will share the
values of simplicity and peace. We are going to ride our bikes through interesting places,
fostering a sustainable style of travelling and enjoying ourselves in the Servas spirit!
There is place for 25 bikers and if you are interested, please fill the Registration Form and send it as
soon as possible to the organizers.
You can participate with your own bike, or you can rent one at the start of the journey.
Organizers will provide the rental, all you have to do is filling the registration form and wait for the reply
on the availability.
We require the LOI to our foreign friends: if don’t have one at the moment, don’t worry, you have time
to make it until the meeting; Italian members will also prepare a presentation letter.
 The local members will welcome and host the bikers in Milan and Bergamo! In these two cities
there will be times and places to share activities and a good time together. Locals will cook, host ,
propose activities, participate to the dinners on Saturday and Sunday. And on Monday in Bergamo,
members can join the visit to the city (bikers will conduct the bikes “by hand” in the narrow streets)
and share the lunch.
In case you are passing by Milan or Bergamo and want to join (without bike), we encourage
you to contact the organizers.
We are asking to all participants to bring along a message, an object or a symbol to share
during the meeting.
Program, fee, registration
Please find the program in the next two pages. It is also published on the Italian web site
www.servas.it
The costs are minimal, you will find the details in the registration form.
There is place only for 25 bikers and organizers will form a waiting list based on the date of arrival
of the registration form; the term to present it expires on April 25th and you will be contacted for
confirmation/availability within May 1st. In that moment, organizers will ask you to pay the registration
fee through a bank transfer.
Organizers are aware that foreign members might have to book a flight before May 1st, so in that
case we encourage you to contact the organizers to know about your position, if there is place.

PROGRAM
Saturday, May 30th
For the bikers:
• at 9:30 a.m, the group will depart from the train station of Cisano
Bergamasco and will pedal along the cycling path from Brivio (Bergamo)
and will arrive in Piazza Duomo (Milan) around 6 p.m.
From Cisano Bergamasco to Crespi d' Adda we will cycle along the Adda
river. We will pass through the iron bridge of Paderno, and along
hydroelectric plants. Along the way we will visit an Ecomuseum and the
Leonardo da Vinci’s Ferry. The group will arrive to the Villaggio Crespi (in
Crespi d’Adda), a unique example of industrial textile village, UNESCO
heritage.
From the Villaggio Crespi to Milan, we will ride along the Canal “della
Martesana”.
In total (from Cisano Bergamasco to Milan) the ride is 55 km on flat land.
It is possible to shorten the itinerary at the 38th km by taking the subway
(with the bike) from Gessate to the center of Milan.

In case of very bad weather,
we will take a train.
Some cyclists-members might join us in Crespi d’Adda: they will take
the train from Milano central station and arrive around noon.

Saturday and Sunday night in Milan we will have a beautiful location just for us in the center, with shower
and kitchen at our disposal. In the late afternoon, some local members will be there to welcome the bikers,
and will cook something good! Local members will be invited to attend the dinner and to bring something so
we will set up a banquet (“potlatch”) prepared -as usual in Servas Italy - with our hands!
On Sunday evening after the dinner there will be a meeting-conference about Servas and bikes, and some
musical entertainment.
If you are a foreign Servas member passing by Milan (not with the bike group) and want to join the event,
you are more than welcome but please remember to contact the organizers.

Sunday, May 31st
in Milano city
In the morning: a “soft tour” by bike guided by local members, to
discover the beauties of the city.
The lunch (“schiscetta”) for the group of 25 bikers will be prepared by
the locals.
We are also thinking about organizing a treasure hunt!
In case of very bad weather, we will do the tour on foot.
Afternoon: free time before the evening activities.
Evening: from 7 p.m. we meet at the location at our disposal in the centre of Milan.
For dinner, members can cook together some warm typical food. Locals will bring some food from
home too.
After dinner there will be a meeting-conference about Servas and bikes; we will also invite another
local association. There will be some musical entertainment and time for members to share thoughts
and ideas.

Monday, June 1st
The group of bikers will leave Milano by train (bringing the bike on the train) at 9:30 a.m. and will
arrive in Bergamo around 10:30 a.m.
From the train station in Bergamo, will go to the Città Alta (the upper, ancient, beautiful part of
Bergamo) with the funicular. Some local members will guide the group through the Porta
Sant’Agostino, along the venetian walls and finally arrive in Piazza Vecchia (“old square”), the heart
of the Città Alta
Local members can join the group on foot, the meeting point is at 11:30 a.m. at the arrival of the
funicular in the Città Alta (bikers will conduct the bikes “by hand” in the narrow streets).
Lunch at Ristorante Il Circolino in Vicolo S. Agata 19, around 1 p.m.
Members who wish to join (and are not part of the group of 25 bikers) have to contact the organizers.
After lunch, the group of bikers will ride along the greenways in the Bergamo hills (maximum

Around 5 p.m. the group will meet at the train station in Bergamo, for the final greetings.
Those who wish to remain a few more days, are welcome to fill the registration form and ask
for hospitality. Just to let you know, we inform you that the 2nd of June is a national public holiday in
Italy.
