In virtù di questi dati è quindi possibile prendere in considerazione i risultati concretamente ottenuti o fortemente auspicabili dopo l’intervento. The Mantova Provincial Council had expressed the need to render the glazing of its building safer in accordance with Legislative Decree 81-08 EN 12543-12600, and to limit the overheating of the glazed rooms inside, so as to control the rise in temperature above all in summer and in spring and autumn. The building in question has glazed surfaces amounting to approximately 650 m2 exposed to the sun mainly to the southwest. The decision to use Serisolar film enabled the glazing of the building to be transformed without interfering with the work going on inside it. To begin with, the company’s working group concentrated its efforts on the surrounding frames facing south and west, and then turned its attention to the glazing of the inner cloister. The professional installation of innovative 75-micron sun-screening films on the existing transparent surfaces transformed the outer sheet of the multiple glazing of the outer walls into sunscreening safety glass, expected to last for over 15 years. In the solutions with multiple glazing, in particular, these sun-screening films have proved to feature low energy absorption and a high degree of direct reflections. Thanks to the combined characteristic action of anti-UV and anti-IR sun-screening films, Serisolar has radically changed the level of comfort in terms of heat inside the building of the Provincial Council, substantially improving the microclimate in the interior and lowering power consumption thanks to the limited use of the air-conditioning system. As often happens with work in progress, here again Serisolar carried out several tests in order to investigate the effectiveness of the activity and to quantify the actual benefit. The test carried out in August 2009 on some of the rooms with glazing on the south side of the building indicated a temperature on the innermost sheet of the multiple glazing of 39.9°C in the office to be treated with the film. The test carried out in a room to which film had been applied indicated a temperature on the innermost surface of 30.2°, showing the marked reduction of the typical greenhouse effect caused by glazing. In view of these data it is possible to consider the concrete results obtained or to be hoped for after the activity. Use of Serisolar sun-screening films has enabled certification of safety according to EN 12600 to be obtained. It is possible to forecast a reduction of the annual workload of the refrigeration units by over 40%, with the consequent lowering of energy costs and of CO2 emissions into the air. On the basis of estimates it should be possible to amortise the cost of the activity in about 36 months, that is to say less than one fifth of the actual expected duration of the sun-screening films being installed. novembre - dicembre 2009 Glass, too, is changing
