Il pilota inglese affronta bene i primi due
scontri diretti, ma nella terza e quarta manche
accumula qualche penalità. Alla griglia di
partenza della sua prefinale (2) è in 14°
posizione. Ilott è veloce e può ben sperare di
rimontare posizioni, ma un contatto subito alla
partenza lo fa scivolare in fondo alla classifica.
Risale di qualche posizione, ma non andrà oltre
il 20° posto, restando fuori per un soffio dalla
finale. “Nonostante la velocità messa in pista gli
manca ancora quella determinazione, da sana
competizione, che gli permetterebbe di portare
a casa il risultato”, commenta Dino Chiesa.
Lance Stroll – KF
FATALITÀ IN FINALE
Non sbaglia niente negli scontri diretti e chiude le ultime due manche
senza penalità. Il canadese conquista un meritato 2 ° posto alla griglia
di partenza della sua prefinale (2) dove concluderà 3°. Ma dopo un
weekend perfetto, dove la performance non è certo mancata, una fatalità
lo penalizza proprio alla partenza della finale. Il pilota davanti a lui
esita e Stroll, da fermo, non riesce a sfilarsi in tempo per difendere la sua
posizione. Chiuderà 5°. “Sono soddisfatto del risultato che tiene aperto il
Mondiale, anche se c’è un po’ di rammarico per non avere confermato il
podio. Un’altra cosa positiva, Stroll è il primo tra i rookie che corrono per il

SPORCO NEI FRENI
L’inglese mette a segno le manche e si qualifica 2° per la
partenza nella sua prefinale (1), che chiuderà 5°. In finale
parte al 9° posto e guadagna subito posizioni nei primi giri.
Ma la sorte rema contro e una serie di fatalità (le gomme
fredde per essersi allineato con un giro in meno e dello
sporco accumulato nei freni) lo fanno quasi uscire di pista.
Joyner scivola a metà classifica e concluderà 12°. “Ha
raccolto qualche punto che potrà tornare utile con la seconda
gara in Bahrain”.

GOOD, BUT LACKING SOME BITE
The English driver does well in the first two direct
matches, but he collects some penalties in his third
and fourth heats: on the start grid of his pre-final
(PF2), Ilott is sitting 14th. He is fast and has good
chances to rise his way up, but a contact right
off grid pushes him to the rear of the field. He
gains a few positions, but doesn’t make it past
20th and misses the final by just a breath. “Despite
the speed he showed on track, he still needs that
healthy competitive determination that would allow
him to take home results” - says Dino Chiesa.
Lance Stroll – KF
FATAL FINAL
He does everything right in hand to hand combat and closes his last two heats
without penalties. The Canadian conquers a well-deserved 2nd place on the
start grid for his pre-final (PF2) and here he ends 3rd. Then, after a perfect
weekend with a stand-out performance, fate turns on him for the start of the
final. The driver ahead of him hesitates and Stroll fails to dart off grid to defend
his position. He is 5th at the end. Dino Chiesa’s comment: “I am satisfied with the
result, it keeps the title hunt open; although I am bitter that we didn’t confirm the
podium. To stay on a positive note, Stroll is the best of the rookies racing for the
World title.”

DIRTY BRAKES
The English driver sweeps the heats and qualifies 2nd for his
pre-final (PF1), where he ends 5th. In the final he starts from 9th
on grid and quickly climbs his way up on the first laps. Yet, luck
turns on him and he is almost sent off track by several setbacks
(his tires are cold because he did a lap less than others to get
into formation and his brakes are caked in dirt). Joyner slips
down to mid-field and closes 12th. “The points he collected could
come in handy for the second round in Bahrain.”
