Today sees the launch of JACK, the first international web television platform dedicated to the contemporary arts and its protagonists, conceived and promoted by MAXXI and realised thanks to the technological partnership with Engineering. JACK Contemporary Arts TV (www.jackarts.tv) overcomes the physical and geographical confines of a museum and brings together multiple international centres of excellence in cultural experimentation and production. With exclusive contents, a constantly updated schedule of live streaming, space for users’ comments and the contributions of art bloggers, JACK intends to excite, provide food for thought, describe reality with new eyes and above all bring the general public into contact with contemporary art. From its very name, JACK, universal and familiar, referencing an electrical connector, a playing card and a fruit, a name that belongs to us all*. From Rome to Amsterdam, from Istanbul to Lisbon, JACK units multiple and diverse experiences and points of view to recount the universal energy of art to all those ready to allow themselves to be transported by the power of creativity and to be inspired. On the day of its debut, JACK can already count on the participation of 14 national and international institutions: Centro per l’Arte Contemporanea Luigi Pecci (Prato), EMST National Museum of Contemporary Art (Athens), FOAM Fotografiemuseum (Amsterdam), Fondazione Romaeuropa, Istanbul Museum of Modern Art, Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea (Rome), La Triennale di Milano, MADRE Museo d’Arte Contemporanea Donnaregina (Naples), MAK – Austrian Museum of Applied Arts / Contemporary Art (Vienna), Museion (Bolzano), Museum of Architecture (Wroclaw), Museo di Fotografia Contemporanea (Cinisello Balsamo – Milan), Trienal de Arquitectura de Lisboa. The project has been developed thanks to the three-year partnership between MAXXI and Engineering, a leader in the software and IT services sector. The objective of the collaboration is to create and provide technological support for the museum's projects, guaranteeing their distribution, supporting contemporary creativity in all its forms – art architecture, dance and photography – with maximum involvement of the public. Experimentation, planning and innovation are the keywords of this partnership which, along with JACK, also involves VIRTUAL MAXXI and a further two projects to be realised in the near future. The company has joined forces with the museum to create VIRTUAL MAXXI, a virtual reality exhibition that allows visitors to explore some of the finest models in the Architecture Collection that are not currently on display, including those of Campo Baeza, Sacripanti and Rossi. Thanks to the installation of three visors in Gallery 4 which houses the collection, the public may observe the works from every angle and explore the details accompanied by a voiceover narration: a virtual and immersive continuation of the conventional presentation of the collection, open free of charge for all. * Thanks to the group from the Palestra Creativa of the Master Laboratoriominiera in Art Direction and Copywriting of Poli.design, Milan Polytechnic Consortium for the conception of the JACK identity: naming, logo and trailer.
