IL DOCENTE
Robert Herman è uno street photographer di New York che lavora con la
fotografia fin dall’inizio degli anni ’80. Nel
2014 pubblica The New Yorkers — una
monografia di fotografie Kodachrome di
New York City — che ha avuto così tanto successo da farne una ristampa.
La sua nuova pubblicazione The
Phone Book — libro di fotografie scattate con iPhone — sarà pubblicato
nell’autunno del 2015 [Schiffer Publishing, Ltd].
Robert crede fermamente nell’idea che è l’occhio del fotografo che fa
la foto e non la macchina fotografica.
PROGRAMMA
Sabato, 19 settembre
13:00 — 15:00 Introduzione degli
studenti e dell’insegnante. Robert presenterà uno slide show di immagini
di alcuni importanti autori protagonisti della storia della fotografia e alcune
immagini tratte dai suoi libri: The New
Yorkers e The Phone book.
15:00 — 17:00 Uscita di gruppo per
scattare insieme a Gallipoli.
Domenica, 20 settembre
9:00 — 11:00 Discuteremo gli scatti
fatti nel pomeriggio precedente e sulla
base delle immagini che visualizzeremo, Robert ci parlerà delle tecniche
avanzate per ottenere degli ottimi scatti
The Teacher
Robert Herman is a New York City
based street photographer who has
been working in the medium since the
early 80’s.
Published last year to great critical acclaim, The New Yorkers, his monograph of Kodachrome photographs
of New York City is now in its second
printing. The Phone Book, his book of
iPhone photos, will be published in the
fall of 2015, by Schiffer Publishing, Ltd.
Robert is a strong believer in the
idea that it is the eye of the photographer that makes the photo, not the camera.
PROGRAM
Saturday, Sept 19
13:00 — 15:00 Introduction of students and instructor. Robert will present
a slide show of images from the history
of photography as well as images from
his books: The New Yorkers and The
Phone Book.
15:00 — 17:00 Class will go out as a
group to shoot in Gallipoli.
Sunday, Sept 20
9:00 — 11:00 Meet in the studio to
discuss the previous afternoon’s shooting and a short talk by Robert of advanced street photography techniques.
11:00 — 17:00 (with a break for lunch)
Students will go out to shoot individual-

14:00) Gli studenti potranno andare a
scattare individualmente. Robert e tutto
lo staff di NYPS resterà a disposizione
degli studenti durante tutto il giorno per
chi volesse essere seguito o per chi
avesse bisogno di consigli. Mr. Herman
risponderà a tutte le curiosità e domande. N.b. Generalmente un pomeriggio
di scatto strutturato in questo modo,
prevede la presenza dell’insegnante in
zone limitrofe all’area scelta dagli studenti per scattare. In questo modo l’insegnate e lo staff di NYPS sono a completa disposizione di tutti i partecipanti.
Lunedì, 21 settembre
9:00 — 12:00 Parleremo di Adobe
Lightroom come strumento essenziale
per facilitare l’editing. Ogni fotografia
deve essere visto due volte: una prima volta scattata ed una seconda volta
in fase editing e post–produzione. Le
vostre immagini acquisiranno più forza
solo se verranno inserite in un contesto
appropriato: è tra le pratiche essenziali
che agevolano la crescita come fotografo. Ogni studente inizierà a modificare
le fotografie utilizzando Lightroom e ottenendo così le 5 immagini più forti e
significative scattate nei giorni precedenti.
12:00 — 13:00 pausa pranzo
13:00 — 15:00 Presentazione del lavoro di ogni studente e discussione critica tra il docente e la classe. Un confronto finale di come le fotografie sono state
organizzate per la presentazione di un
portafolio, da presentare ad una galleria, per una mostra o per progettare un
libro.

shooting structured provides presence
of the teacher close to the area chosen
by the students to shoot. In this way the
teacher and NYPS staff’s are completely available to all participants if they
need them.
Monday, Sept 21
9:00 — 12:00 A discussion of Adobe
Lightroom as the essential tool to facilitate editing. Every photograph must be
seen twice. First when it is made, and
again in the editing. Recognition of your
strong photographs and placing them in
an appropriate context is the essential
practice for facilitating growth as a photographer. Each student will begin editing of the previous days photographs
using Lightroom and edit down to their
strongest five photos.
12:00 — 13:00 Break for Lunch
13:00 — 15:00 Slide show of the student’s work with critique and discussion
by the instructor with the class. A final
discussion of how photographs are organized for presentation in a photographer’s portfolio, for a gallery show or for
a book.
REQUIREMENTS
Camera, preferably one that shoots in
RAW, Laptop computer, with Adobe
Lightroom installed. Thumb drive.
APPLICATION
A portfolio of 10 pictures: each image
must be 72 dpi and 1000 pixels on the
long side. Photos must be compressed
into a zip file and sent to:

Si consiglia l’invio di un portfolio di 10
immagini: ogni immagine non deve superare 72 dpi e 1000 pixels sul lato lungo. Le fotografie devono essere compresse in un file .zip ed inviate a
