Joe Schittino
JOE SCHITTINO was born in Syracuse on Feb. 7, 1977. He graduated in
classical philology and archaeology at the Catania University, in piano and
in composition at the Conservatory of Catania, and finally he specialized in
composition with Azio Corghi ad Ivan Fedele at the National Academy of
Santa Cecilia in Rome.
Joe Schittino collaborated with German director and dramatist Klaus
Rohleder (1935-2013) with several works, and especially with an opera in
two acts inspired by the life of Caroline Neuberin, premiered in 2007 at XV
Stelzenfestpiele bei Reuth with great public success.
In 2010 Schittino was the first Italian receiving a special commission from
the Légion d’Honneur, for a Cantata performed in Paris during the Concert
Presidentiel 2011. In 2015 he was in residence at the Angers CNDC (Centre
National de Danse Contemporaine) for his choreographic opera Alpheus et
Arethusa with the Cadmium Compagnie.
Joe Schittino obtained commissions from: Delta Saxophone Quartet,
Musikverein Osnabrück, Else Lasker-Schüler Gesellschaft, Fondazione
Luciano Benetton, Teatro Stabile di Catania, Officina Musicale Italia,
Gruppo Strumentale Ciampi for EXPO Milan 2015. Among his
collaborators and performers: Novosibirsk Philharmonic Chamber
Orchestra, Italian Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra del Teatro Lirico di
Cagliari, Coro Polifonico Farnesiano, Hermes String Quartet, Ensemble
Algoritmo, Alim Shakh, Steve Martland, Marco Rogliano, Marco Angius,
Diana Galvydyte, Mario Ciaccio, Alessio Vicario, Angelo Cavarra.
His music have been performed in Italy, Germany, France, Belgium,
Austria, United Kingdom, Poland, Cyprus, Malta, Russia, Taiwan, USA;
broadcasted by ZDF, Hessischer Rundfunk, RAI Radio3; recorded by
Champs Hill Records (“four stars” in “BBC music Magazine” XII 2012)
and RCR (Austria); and published by Suvini Zerboni, Edition Gamma, Ebert
Musik Verlag and since 2015 by BAM.
