SS2017 - Panizza
Panizza has been making the best hats in the world since 1879, the year when it was founded, thanks to the skill and genius of Giovanni Panizza, the head of a long stock of expert Italian hatmakers. When Giovanni Panizza retired to private life, he left the company to his friend and partner Natale Gamba, whose children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren have successfully continued managing the business to the present. Over the years, the aim has been to maintain the great manufacturing skill and craftsmanship, conquered and learned with hard work, which is still today the pride and symbol of the brand and the company. Today production takes place in Montevarchi at the Falcus hat factory, whilst the original site in Ghiffa, on the shores of Lake Maggiore, is home to the museum of the art of the hat. To tell a story of intuition and passion, Antonio Gamba has created the Panizza Museum of the Art of the Hat. A small gem in the old factory, which tells of hats and the figures that wore them. A day at the museum to travel through time, in the company of an elegant witness: the hat. Founded with the aim of preserving and keeping the complete history of the Italian hat industry and, in particular, of the original Panizza factory, the museum, with entry free of charge, is open throughout the summer and on reservation in the winter. Often the venue for temporary thematic exhibitions, both international and national, it is a landmark for anyone who wants further information on the history and evolution of this timeless accessory of style, in a journey through collections, machines and documents. 8 The P collection from Panizza this season draws its inspiration from the style of the French Neoimpressionists and the Pointillism and Divisionism of Signac and Seurat. Luminosity is created by systematically juxtaposing the colour palette and optically mixing tones, tints and pigments of a unique purity, resulting in a balance fed by the contrasts of irradiation and degradation. In fact, the whole colour structure aims for an absolute harmony, ensuring, as with the aim of the Neo-impressionist movement, a universal and objective visual ambience. Side by side in the collection are classic models, iconic models in light felt, made with new combinations of colours, and models inspired directly by the Neo-impressionist movement. The predominant crown is characteristically fedora, with room for either square or round structures; the brims range from narrow and medium through to the wider kind, for a collection that is complete in shape and size; the selected straw has thick and resilient texture, guaranteeing a perfect shape. The edging and trims, made in grosgrain, often contrast with the hat colour, or are two-toned; high and prominent bows, sometimes pleated, contrast with others which are more subtle and delicate. The variegated straw in ecru and brown is reminiscent of Aztec designs, while a swirl of white, natural colour, blue, black and grey culminating on the crown of the hat creates an organic movement of balanced inlays. The colour palette is vivid and vibrant. The ever-popular “black and white”, and straw in optical white and natural colour, sit alongside lively colours contrasting with equally dazzling bands of orange, apple-green, coral or the shades of the sea. Fantasies of mixed weaves of straw, in colours like blue and brown, conjure a harmonious geometry and swirling designs. Accompanying the P collection are the iconic classic models that have made the name of the brand over the years, clear and clean in their elegant simplicity.
