Pineider history dates back to 1774, when Mr. Francesco Pineider
opened his first shop in Piazza della Signoria in Florence, Italy.
It soon became a benchmark for those who love the exclusivity
of prestigious hand-made products, such as personalised leather
goods, personalised, hand-engraved stationery, printed on the finest papers.
Today, more than two hundred years later, Pineider is a world
recognized brand, thanks to its high-end products, made only
with the very best materials and handcrafted by Italian artisans.
We are very proud of our national and international clientele and

LA STORIA PINEIDER
Nel 1774 Francesco Pineider, originario della Val Gardena,
apre la sua prima cartoleria nel cuore pulsante della Firenze
del tempo, in piazza della Signoria.
Pineider comincia a produrre raffinati e ricercati articoli di cartoleria e
chincaglie e fin da subito l’offerta di questa bottega del centro è caratterizzata dalla stampa personalizzata e dalla varietà di oggetti pregiati di
importazione nordeuropea e francese. La lungimiranza di Francesco Pineider permette di introdurre nella stampa, per la prima volta, i caratteri
internazionali di tradizione anglosassone e germanica e nel contempo offre
pregiate carte, di stili, colori e tipologie diverse, prodotte rigorosamente
a mano dagli artigiani locali o di provenienza francese e olandese. Pineider
propone da subito la famosa stampa a rilievo, prodotta da matrici incise a
mano, secondo la tradizione fiorentina.
Di Pineider s’innamorano non soltanto i fiorentini, ma ben presto i romantici e colti viaggiatori inglesi, francesi e tedeschi di passaggio nella meravigliosa Firenze, tappa obbligata del Grand Tour dell’Ottocento. La tradizione vuole che presso la storica bottega sia passato anche Napoleone in

persona; certo è che sono molti i frequentatori assidui di questa raffinata

Da Pineider in Piazza della Signoria entrano, ordinano, comprano, illustri
personaggi che hanno fatto la storia della letteratura, come Stendhal, Lord

Charles Dickens, per citarne alcuni.

Nel 2009, per il prestigioso G8, presso l’Aquila in Italia, Pineider è stata
scelta come fornitore ufficiale per i regali del Governo italiano ai capi di
stato e governanti del mondo presenti in quella occasione.

Italia artigianalmente.
PINEIDER HISTORY
In 1774 Francesco Pineider opened his first stationery shop in
the heart of Florence, in Piazza della Signoria, opposite Michelangelo’s David. Pineider’s shop started producing and selling exclusive
paper, handmade by local artisans and craftsmen from France and Holland.The
shop soon became well known for both the high quality of its paper and the wide
range available. Francesco Pineider was the first man in Italy to introduce printed
letters drawn from the Anglo-Saxon and Germanic tradition, and his avant-garde
equipment made it possible to produce perfect, spotless lithographic and copperplate prints such as relief prints, produced from hand-engraved dies. Pineider
soon became the stationer of choice for the European bourgeoisie who appreciated this luxury paper and asked for made-to-order visiting cards, papers with
elegant embossed characters, coats of arms and monograms hand-engraved in
gold, using a technique perfected by Renaissance goldsmiths.
In the early nineteenth century, at the request of privileged customers,
Pineider created a series of extremely elegant writing desk objects such as pens,
desk sets, folders and accessories.
Later on Pineider introduced leather objects made in Florence by master craftsmen. Classic black, brown, crimson and bright forest green briefcases, travel bags
and cases, made exclusively in pigskin. Books from valuable private collections
and albums were rebound by Pineider in leather, decorated with gold embroidery
and personalised with initials and monograms. Cultured and romantic English,
French and German travellers fell in love with Pineider when they would arrive in
Florence, the typical destination of the nineteenth century Grand Tour. Legend tells us that Napoleon was among the travellers who entered the historical Pineider
shop, which became the stationer of choice for authors, artists and poets, such
as Stendhal, Lord Byron, Percy B.Shelley, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Giacomo
Leopardi and Charles Dickens.

In the second half of the nineteenth century, the
founder’s successors followed Pineider’s tradition with the same
care and passion. Florence became the Italian Capital and, as a
consequence, tourism soon flourished. Pineider printed the first official guides
to the city and produced photographs and postcards, ushering in the era of
the ready-to-buy souvenir. Florence was an important cultural and commercial
crossroad and Pineider was the stationer for prestige communications, for printed documents, and for cards. Embassies, ministries, state offices and The Savoy
Royal Family became customers of the shop in Piazza della Signoria, which soon
became too small to cope with the dizzying increase in demand and business.
In 1867 Pineider opened a second elegant shop in Florence in the magnificent
Via Tornabuoni. When, five years later, Rome became the Capital of the kingdom,
the Savoy family then asked Pineider to open a new shop in the Eternal City to
cater for the needs of the Royal household.
In the twentieth century Pineider kept pace with international cultural

trends while keeping in touch with traditional products. Personalised personal
and business stationery, ebonite Pineider patented fountain pens, vegetable tanned calfskin bags and wedding necessities, all joined the Pineider catalogue.
Pineider made an appearance in all the world’s cities, thanks to the patronage of
sovereigns, public figures and business personalities. These are just some of the
illustrious names on its roll of clients: Eleonora Duse, Gabriele D’Annunzio, Luigi
Pirandello, Maria Callas, Liz Taylor, Henry Ford, Marlene Dietrich, Rudolf Nureyev,
Luchino Visconti, among others.
Today, more than 200 years since the first shop opened its doors,
choosing Pineider still means choosing the best style, highest quality
and most skilled Italian craftsmanship.
The range today is even wider than before, having been expanded using innovative materials, crafted in accordance with our old traditions and techniques. The
famous bespoke Pineider stationery still represents a cornerstone of Pineider’s
production. Paper is still made using traditional methods and the Pineider watermark is present even on thick cards.
Pineider printing techniques are a source of great pride and rely on the Pineider
master engravers who hand engrave steel dies, which then are used to print on
Pineider stationery. The leather goods, all made with the very best materials, are
dedicated to men, women and travel.

L’anno di fondazione di Pineider dà il
nome a 1774, collezione diventata in
breve tempo un classico tra la proposte
dedicate all’uomo e alla donna. Oggi
la Collezione 1774 si presenta in una
veste rinnovata, che vede protagonisti
nuovi materiali e colori, risultato di
un’attenta ricerca volta sempre al
miglioramento. Se è stata gelosamente
mantenuta la laboriosa modelleria, dai
trafori e bordi dentellati, che richiamano
il mondo della calzatura classica, ora
1774 presenta due novità assolute: il
duraturo vitello rugato color ebano
ed il resistente tessuto spalmato nero.
Collezione 1774 takes its name from the
year in which Pineider was founded. Although only launched a few years ago
it has already become a Pineider Classic. The new revised edition is the result
of attentive research into the areas of
colour and leather. The inspiration of
Collezione 1774 still comes from the
hand-made shoe world, with a classic punched-hole brogue pattern, the aged calfskin, which gave a vintage glam to all the
products of this collection. However the
new edition embraces two new materials:
a Rugato calfskin, in mat ebony colour,
and an enduring coated black canvas.

The Power Elegance collection features genuine Italian leather, tanned with
vegetable extracts, following the most
ancient and rigorous traditions of Tuscany, using the tannins of oak and chestnut trees. This particular process makes this leather unique, soft, durable
and rich while showing the traces of
time. The more you use it, the suppler it
becomes with colour changes that are
subtle, becoming more and more beautiful with time. Power Elegance vegetable
tanned leather is sewn with saddle needles and the metal parts are in palladium.

Since the opening of the first shop in
1774, Pineider has been synonymous
with exclusive stationery. Pineider paper is the result of a strong desire to
preserve the best of Italian artisanal
craftsmanship. Pineider paper is still
made with unique processes such as the
water cut edging or the hand-colouring
of the borders. All Pineider papers are
made with the best cotton or cellulose
and are chlorine and acid free, with neutral PH. The colouring of the paper is
always made with natural pigments. The
Pineider range includes many collections
of boxed blank stationery, greeting cards
for all occasions, and also papers sold

and sinuous design are the main characteristics of the SMALL collection, dedicated both to men and women, for leisure and business. The Small collection is
in full grain napa calfskin leather and
features Italian leather bridles, tanned with vegetable extracts, which take
inspiration from the equestrian world. A finishing touch is given by the waxing and brushing applied to this leather, a classical technique of the shoe
world, used in order to add smoothness
and shades of colours to the materials.
