4 Culture club ‘My name’s Brandon and I’m 11. Football is my life. I play it all the time. I’m in my town’s under-12s FA club. FA stands for ‘Football Association’. There’s a famous championship for professional football teams called the FA Cup. You can join a junior FA club when you are 5! We practise every Tuesday evening and Saturday morning at the football club in town. Each training session is an hour and a half. I love tae kwon do. It’s a martial art from Korea and it’s a very popular sport in the UK, too. I do tae kwon do at school on Thursdays at 3.30 p.m. The lessons are for an hour. Tae kwon do is very similar to karate. There’s a lot of kicking and it’s an important skill. Like all martial arts, tae kwon do is not about fighting, but about respect and control. There are ten different levels of tae kwon do, called geups. You start at the 10th geup and you try to progress through the levels to the 1st geup. I’m on the 5th geup. That’s quite good!’ ‘I’m Kelly and I love dancing. I’m 12 years old. I’m in the hip hop dance club at my school. It’s a new after-school club, and it’s very popular!
