Alberto Di Minin is Assistant Professor (Ricercatore) of Strategy (Economia e Gestione delle
Imprese) at the Institute of Management - Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna (Pisa, Italy –
www.sssup.it ), Visiting Professor at the Department of Operations, Organization and Human
Resources – Twente University in The Netherlands, and Research Fellow with the Berkeley
Roundtable on the International Economy (BRIE, University of California Berkeley
http://brie.berkeley.edu/).
Alberto’s research and teaching deals with the appropriability of innovation. In particular he
focuses on open innovation and business model innovation. He also works on technology
transfer, intellectual property and R&D management. His latest publications appeared on
California Management Review, J. of International Business Studies, R&D Management J.,
Research Policy.
In 2006 he got his Ph.D. with a dissertation on the internalization of R&D from U.C. Berkeley,
which was recognized with a Dissertation Award by the Industry Studies of the Alfred Sloan
Foundation. Alberto has received a M.S. in Public Policy from the Georgia Institute of
Technology, Atlanta and a B.A. in Economics from the Scuola Sant’Anna and the Università
Statale of Pisa.

2009. I was part of the Italian Delegation organized by the U.S. Department of State (VOLVIS) to
explore practices of technology management, technology transfer, promotion of high tech
entrepreneurship in the U.S..
2007 I have been invited by the University of Chongqing to take part to the initiative “Learning China in
China” which was directed to Italian entrepreneurs, managers and scholars interested in exploring or
strengthening professional relationships with Chongqing China.
2007 I was part of the delegation to India organized by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to promote
graduate education in Italy.
Organization and Coordination of
Conferences and Workshops
2010 I organized as Scientific Coordinator the opening week of the Club dell’Innovazione, by the
Provincia di Catania (October). Local policy makers, entrepreneurs, managers and journalists were
present to the five days roundtable on the economy of this Sicilian province.
2009-2010 I served as Scientific Co-Coordinator of the XIX and of the XX European Doctoral Summer
Schools on Technology Management, organized by EIASM.
2009 I coordinated with Prof. Andrea Piccaluga a workshop on the Indian economy, hosted at the
Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna. The event, titled “I mille volti dell’India” featured presentations by
academics working on international business and entrepreneurship, journalists and managers.
2009 I was the Scientific Coordinator of the Spring edition of “Capturing Creativity”, a lecture series
organized by the American Embassy in Rome within the program Partnership for Growth, to promote

2008 I coordinated with Prof. Andrea Piccaluga the Florence event of Global Entrepreneurship Week.
We organized a full day workshop on first generation entrepreneurship with contributions from founders
of companies, representative of the banking, academic and policy community.

2008 I have organized the presentation of the Italian Edition of “OPEN: Modelli di Business per
l’innovazione” by Henry Chesbrough. The workshop, held in Florence, was highly anticipated and
featured the presence of the author
2007-08 I have assisted Henry Chesbrough in the organization of the Berkeley Innovation Forum, a
focus group of for theory and practice to confront and align. It is now comprised of 30 member
companies, who meet twice a year in Berkeley, to exchange information and experience on managing
innovation..
2007-08 I have served as scientific co-coordinator of the Fondazione IRI Summer School on
Management Studies on “International Business Studies” (July 2007) and ”Managing Organizational
Learning and Change” (July 2008).
2005-06 I have assisted Professors Stephen Cohen and John Zysman with the organization of the
BRIE/ETLA conferences. During these roundtables scholars from Europe and the U.S. were sharing
their research agenda with colleagues, leading representatives of high-tech industries and policy
makers.
