Doctoral Program in Veterinary Science and animal breeding
Doctoral Program in Veterinary Science and animal breeding Proposer: Dr. Giulietta Minozzi Department of Veterinary Sciences and Public Health Course title: 'Genetic Association Studies in the Field of Animal Infectious Diseases'. Aim of the course: In recent years there has been tremendous progress in the identification of infectious agents associated with animal diseases and increasing availability of genomic sequences of the affected animals (dog, cow, pig, cat, ect). It 'clear that in some cases the result of infection can be highly variable between animals of the same breed or between races and species. Consequently, the study of the genetic contribution in the control of diseases can be considered an additional tool and essential to improve animal health, food safety and to optimize the diagnostic and prognostic tools in breeding. The purpose of the course is to provide students with the basics of the PhD program and the practical tools needed to use the genetic information in the field of animal diseases, identify markers of resistance and use in selection. Examples in dogs and cattle will be treated in the classroom. The teaching is through lectures, seminars and practical exercises. Localization and study of the genetic information, molecular markers and sequencing techniques NGS (2h) Practice on the use of databases for the study of genomic variability (2h) Basic principles of genetics applied to animal diseases (4h) Practical training the use of genetic information in studies of Genome Wide Association (GWA) through dedicated computer software (4h) Basic principles of meta-analysis of genomic data and practical exercises in computer room (4h) Dottorato in Scienze Veterinarie e dell’allevamento Proponente: Dr.ssa Giulietta Minozzi Dipartimento di Scienze Veterinarie e Sanità Pubblica Titolo del Corso: ‘Studi di Associazione Genetica nel Campo delle Patologie infettive Animali'.
