He went to school in England, but always loved Ireland and its culture. When he was young, he loved stories about animals. He began writing stories when he was a teenager. After school, he went to Oxford University in 1916. The First World War stopped his studies and he joined the army. When the war finished, he continued his studies and later became a professor there like JRR Tolkien. He lived the rest of his life in Oxford and died in 1963. His first book was The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, published in 1950. It is about a magical world called ‘Narnia’ where animals can talk. The children in the story enter Narnia through a wardrobe. CS Lewis wrote six more books about Narnia. He finished the last book, The Last Battle, in 1956. It won the Carnegie Medal, a very important prize for children’s literature. Lewis’s books sell over a million copies a year all over the world. In 2000 parents, teachers and librarians voted The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe the best children’s book of the twentieth century. 8Segna se le frasi sono vere (T) o false (F). The Chronicles of Narnia film came out in 2005. The director, Adam Adamson, made this film in his native New Zealand. CS Lewis didn’t want films made of his books, because the technology at that time wasn’t very advanced. Now we can create special effects with computers. 7Leggi l’articolo su CS Lewis e rispondi alle 1 CS Lewis and JRR Tolkien both taught at Oxford University. 2 CS Lewis started writing during the First World War. 3 He loved the culture of Ireland. 4 The Last Battle was the final book in the Narnia series. 5 One of his books won a prize. 6 CS Lewis wanted to see films of his books. 9 Pair work In coppie, fatevi queste domande.
