PERIENCE
La Basilicata, a dispetto del mare che la bagna,
presenta piu dell’ l’80% del suo territorio tra
colline e montagne.
Sono spesso territori brulli attraversati da
strade su cui si affacciano le centrali eoliche
alimentate dai venti che spazzano queste terre.
Proprio questi venti hanno scolpito e modellato
le dolomiti Lucane: Guglie e pareti di arenaria
dalle forme uniche.
Queste architetture incredibili sono state
testimoni di una fetta importante di storia,
dando riparo alle popolazioni normanne, fino ad
essere rifugio per i briganti del XVIII° secolo.
Nonostante l’incredibile fascino che queste
forme trasmettono, l’arrampicata non si è
mai interessata a questi castelli di arenaria.
Soltanto Alessandro Gogna, nel 1981, ne
intravide il suo potenziale e lo incluse nella
sua raccolta di arrampicate nel sud Italia
“Mezzogiorno di Pietra” e proprio questo libro,
edito da Zanichelli, ha ispirato il nostro terzo XP
alla ricerca dell’arrampicata che non c’è.
Spesso la friabilità della roccia ha respinto le
nostre ambizioni, ma il desiderio di dare un
significato arrampicatorio a quelle forme,
non ci ha abbattuti e a capo di 3 giorni
di ricerca, 5 di preparazione ed una settimana
di arrampicata, abbiamo dato forma alla
nostra fantasia mettendo un primo tassello
all’arrampicata che sarà.

Basilicata, although touched by the sea, has
more than 80% of its area covered by hills and
mountains.
These areas are often barren, crossed by
roads overlooking the wind farms, powered
by the winds that sweep over this land. These
winds are what have sculpted and shaped the
Lucan Dolomites: sandstone spires and walls
with unique forms.
This incredible architecture has seen an
important part of our history, from sheltering
the Norman people through to being a refuge
for brigands in the 18th century.
In spite of the incredibly fascinating shapes of
these sandstone castles, no one had thought
to climb them. Only Alessandro Gogna, who in
1981 saw the potential of the area and included
it in his collection of climbs in the south of Italy:
“Mezzogiorno di Pietra”. And it is this book,
published by Zanichelli, which inspired our third
XP in search of the climb that wasn’t there.
Often, the crumbly nature of the rock has
sent us back, but our wish to give a climbing
importance to those rocks hasn’t beaten
us and at the end of a 3-day search, plus 5
days of preparation and a week of climbing,
we were able to give a form to what we had
imagined, completing the first part of a climb
that will be.

Chiodare, tracciare, scoprire, pulire…
Tutti sinonimi di creare. Per comprendere
il mondo circostante si tende a dare forme
secondo schemi che ci sembrano adatti…
In realtà siamo attorniati da figure ambigue.
Nella celebre coppa di Rubin vediamo due
profili contrapposti di donna o una coppa?
In un vagone ferroviario vediamo un mezzo
di trasporto o un “blocco” da arrampicare?
Quasi tutto ciò che ci circonda è scalabile, ma
quand’è che diventa via?
Attraverso colpi di spazzola, magnesite sugli
appigli, quando ha una cima ed un uomo la
scala… E poi spit o chiodi, oppure friends
o nodi, o anche solo un nome, o quello che
volete… La via esiste.
La nostra via diventa voce, è ciò che vogliamo
comunicare, è ciò che vogliamo mostrare.
Michelangelo diceva che la figura è già dentro al
blocco di pietra, per mostrarla bisogna togliere
ciò che c’è intorno…
Io dico che la “via” è già nella natura,
tracciandola parliamo attraverso essa.
Bolting, mapping, discovering, and cleaning...
all of these are synonymous with creating.
To understand the world around us, we tend
to give it a shape, according to the frame of
reference we find most suitable. In actual fact
we are surrounded by ambiguous figures.
In the famous Rubin vase, do we see two
women’s profiles, facing one another, or a
vase? In a railway carriage, can we see a
means of transport or a “problem” to climb?
Almost everything we see around us can be
climbed, but when does it become a route?
By brushing, and by chalking the holds; when
there is a peak and someone climbs it … And
then spits or bolts, or friends or knots, or even
just a name, or whatever you want… The route
exists.
Our route has become a voice; it is what we
want to communicate, what we want to show.
Michelangelo used to say that the figure was
already inside the block of stone, and to show
it, you had to remove what was around it …
I say that the “route” is already there in nature,
and by mapping it out, we can speak through it.

Utopia e passione vanno spesso a braccetto e
questo XP non poteva che essere l’occasione
per condurle all’altare affrontando il rischio
di un matrimonio per procura. Ed è così che
con il mio bastone pastorale trasformato in
trapano, ho caricato gli apostoli su due Doblò
Fiat, dicendogli che il regno dei cieli si sarebbe
trovato esattamente 1013 km più a sud.
Se l’euforia di una settimana di vacanza
poteva addolcire un viaggio così lungo, non
sarebbe stata sufficiente a giustificare un
tale sbattimento ed i miei apostoli, presto
trasformatisi in conquistadores, non vedevano
l’ora di mettere mano sull’oro del sud. Peccato
che l’oro, anche io non sapevo bene dove
fosse, ma ero comunque certo che da qualche
parte l’avremmo trovato.
Forse….
Utopia and passion often go hand in hand, and
this XP could only be an opportunity to bring
them together, risking a kind of marriage by
proxy. So, with my bishop’s crook becoming a
drill, I loaded my apostles into a couple of Fiat
Doblòs, telling them that the kingdom of heaven
was exactly 1013 km south.
If the euphoria of a week’s holiday could
sweeten the bitter pill of such a long journey,
it would not have been enough to make up for
the sheer hassle and my apostles, who soon
turned into conquistadores, couldn’t wait to
get their hands on the southern gold. Shame
that I didn’t have an exact idea of where that
was; although I was sure we would find it
somewhere.

Pietrapertosa
Dall’abitato di Pietrapertosa andare al decollo
del “volo dell’angelo”, proseguendo sull’unico
sentiero. Dopo 3 minuti vi trovate sulla destra
l’evidente pilastro di 50 metri. La via “Forza
Operaia” percorre l’intero pilastro nel centro,
8a+.

From Pietrapertosa proceed to the take-off
of the “volo dell’angelo”, staying on the only
existing path. After 3 minutes you’ll find on your
right the obvious 50 meters high pillar. The line
“Forza Operaia” climbs the entire pillar in the
middle, 8a+.

castelmezzano
Falesia di Castelmezzano: arrivando dalla
Basentana, 1 km prima dell’abitato, superare la
galleria e parcheggiare nell’unico spiazzo che
trovate sulla destra. Salire il ripido sentiero
sulla destra e raggiungere quindi la via ferrata.
Proseguendo sulla via ferrata in direzione
Pietrapertosa (a destra), dopo 10 minuti vi
trovate sul prato posto alla base della falesia.
Boulder a Castelmezzano: Diverse strutture
nella zona della “Scala Normanna” si prestano
ad aprire dei passaggi. Alla fine del paese,
proprio di fronte all’ultima casa trovate una
sitstart di 7b. Poco piu avanti sulla destra
proseguendo sulle scale tre passaggi dal 7a
al 7c (foto pag. 10). In fine, ai piedi della Scala
Normanna, sull’evidente muro di 7/8 metri:
“Chiavalaschiavachescavalascala “ passaggio
tra l’highball e la solitaria in odore di 7b.
Castelmezzano’s crag: coming from the
Basentana, 1 km before the village, pass the
tunnel and park in the only place you can find
on your right. Go up the steep path on the right
and reach than the iron path. Proceeding on
the iron path towards Pietrapertosa (on the
right), after 10 minutes you’ll be at the base of
the crag.
Boulder in Castelmezzano: different structures
all around the “Scala Normanna” are suitable
for new lines. At the end of the village, right in
front of the last house, you’ll find a 7b sitstart.
Further ahead on the right, continuing on
the stairs, three lines from 7a to 7c (photo
page 10). Finally, at the bottom of the “Scala
Normanna” on the main 7/8 meters wall:
“Chiavalaschiavachescavalascala “ problem
between highball and free solo, around 7b.

severi controlli “Qualità Ferrino” garantiscono un prodotto privo
di difetti di materiali e di confezione. Qualora si evidenziassero
questi tipi di difetti, ci si può avvalere della garanzia che ha durata di 2 anni dalla data di acquisto del prodotto. Per i prodotti
High Lab la garanzia ha validità di 3 anni.
Si ricorda inoltre che:
La garanzia non copre difetti causati da utilizzo improprio o
dovuti alla normale usura dei componenti in seguito a uso prolungato. L’acquirente deve riconsegnare l’articolo difettoso al
punto vendita in cui ha effettuato l’acquisto unitariamente allo
scontrino fiscale (condizione di validità della garanzia).
Il negoziante provvederà ad inoltrarlo al distributore o direttamente alla Ferrino. Ferrino provvederà, a sua discrezione, a
sostituirlo o ripararlo. Se il difetto risulta non coperto da garanzia, la riparazione sarà eseguita a costi contenuti, comprensivi
di quelli di spedizione.
Questa garanzia non limita i diritti del consumatore cosi come
definiti dalle leggi vigenti dei vari paesi.
THE FERRINO WARRANTY
Every Ferrino item has been studied in every detail and made
using the most suitable materials for its intended purpose. The
stringent “Ferrino Quality” controls guarantee that products are
free from defects in material and workmanship. In the unlikely
even that any defects of this type should appear, they are covered by this warranty, wich is valid for two years from the date
of purchase. High Lab products have 3 years warranty.
We should also like to remind you that:
The warranty does not cover defects caused by improper use
or normal wear and tear of parts following prolonged use.
The purchaser must return the faulty item to the point of sale
where the purchase was made, along with proof of purchase
(a condition required for the validity of the warranty).
The retailer will then forward the item to the distributor or directly to Ferrino. Ferrino will, at its discretion, replace or repair
the item. If the fault is not covered by the warranty, repairs will
be carried out at low cost, inclusive of shipping or postage.
This warranty does not affect the consumer’s statutory rights,
as specified by the laws in force in the country of use.

Ferrino ha da tempo richiesto l’accordo dei propri fornitori ad
operare secondo principi di fiducia reciproca e di assoluto rispetto di diritti umani e dell’ambiente in cui si opera.
Ha pertanto rilanciato un’azione volta in particolare a controllare che non possano verificarsi condizioni di sfruttamento dei
minori di 15 anni cosi come previsto dalla convenzione n.138
dell’Organizzazione Internazionale del Lavoro.
