Il binomio vela e motore nel caso di Benetti Simone Marconcini è un manager cresciuto a livello professionale in Nautor e Azimut-Benetti / Simone Marconcini is a manager who earned professional experience in Nautor and Azimut-Benetti From words to facts. Simone Marconcini isn’t just CEO of the Benetti Sail Division, but also the driving force behind a major overhaul that has changed the face of the yard in the space of a year. His aim? To carve out a niche for his company alongside the Italian and international nautical greats. Tuscan-born Simone Marconcini is a man with an impressive CV. He cut his business teeth first under Leonardo Ferragamo in Nautor’s Swan before moving on to work for Paolo Vitelli at Benetti. Which means that he had all the experience and talent he needed to really push the envelope on his next big project. By that we mean not so much a revolution as an evolution of the displacement motoryacht concept for which Benetti Sail Division has earned itself a very solid reputation. A good card for any company to have up its sleeve at a time when boats with long ranges and low-fuel consumption figures are coming back into fashion, courtesy of the credit crunch. “The yard had the strength and the ability to resist the siren song of a market that until just a couple of years ago seemed to beckon towards new routes as a result of a kind of expansion to which there seemed to be no limits,” says Marconcini. “The Benetti Sail Division, however, held fast to a consistent strategy both in terms of numbers (production capacity) and in refusing to alter the form and content of its product. Time proved us right and we couldn’t have made a better decision really. Today we not only look more credible but we can also afford, on the back of that experience, to come to the market with a series of new models, albeit ones that are still consistent with the yard’s tradition,” he 177 Yacht Capital È il momento per presentarsi sul mercato con un prodotto innovativo ma in linea con la tradizione It’s the right time to enter the market with an innovative product rooted in tradition Sail Division mette in evidenza le capacità e l’estro tipici di un Made in Italy vincente. This brings us directly to Logica, a new product line that takes some serious inspiration from the world of sailing. A school of thought that, as Picchiotti’s experience with Vitruvius shows, is looking like it has a very bright future indeed. Benetti Sail Division’s sailing-motor duality highlights the kind of superlative skill and creativity that only a Made in Italy company can deliver. Marconcini chose the Studio Brenta in Milan to pen the lines of what is his company’s first in a full range of motoryachts of between 96’ and 160’. This was also the studio’s first foray into the motor end of the spectrum after 20 years of solid experience designing sailing yachts that include the renowned Wally B, Chrisco and Wallygator to mention but a few. “It wasn’t a casual choice,” confides Marconcini. “During my five years at Nautor, I had 178 gotten to know and admire Luca Brenta’s work. The idea behind this project was to bring to the motoryacht sector some of the typical values of sailing – an area in which passion and attention to both functional and aesthetic detail are particularly highly developed.” The new Logica series brings depth and clout to a product range that includes the Explorer line and that of the traditional rounded stern displacement vessel, itself now radically restyled. The first example of the reworked rounded stern line will be a 105’ scheduled to splash next summer. But that’s just the beginning: a smaller 82’ version and a larger 115’ are both on the drawing board as we write. The company’s infrastructure is also getting a boost. The new Pisa facility, where large craft will be built, is opening soon.
