Driven by an unusual sensitivity and an ability to anticipate and tap into the trends in industrial design and fashion, they have carved out a market segment with tremendous potential. Their signature style fits no accepted canon and each is blessed with distinctive details that create virtuosity and generate a difference through an aesthetic credo that combines technological research, innovation, the ability to create new shapes and textures and attention to detail and material. It is no coincidence that for over ten years the trade shows have without exception dedicated a pavilion to them; the very air you breathe in these spaces is fresh and full of creativity and acts as a magnet for the entire sector. It is also no surprise that the “big players” have included brands in their portfolios that carry the Créateurs signature (take for example Luxottica with Alain Mikli and Oliver Peoples). However, selling glasses with a high design content is not for everyone, since only those opticians with a strong sensitivity to beauty, combined with a high cultural level and an extraordinary amount of curiosity are able to convey the intrinsic values of these glasses to the consumer. PLATFORM Special Design is a tribute to this world and was created with the intention of becoming an information tool to keep in each store in order to be informed, receive information and to “educate” the store’s customers. A multitude of features from eyewear that is clothed in advanced technology and goes in search of eco-friendly materials. Luxury meets experimentation and shapes become ever more daring and irregular. Between forays into the past with the catseye frames, re-interpreting the Aviator and over-size sunglasses, not to mention the new colour combinations, eyewear creativity knows no limits. On the one hand it looks to the future, focusing on innovative machining processes and materials that are the result of years of experimentation, while at the same time it acknowledges the opulence of frames illuminated with rhinestones, beads, tiny crystals and precious stones. Urban chic Summed up by a vintage spirit with strong links to the present, this eyewear expresses itself through colours and shapes that are bold but never banal where attention to detail makes the difference. The selected materials are metal and acetate presented in neutral tones, from the eternal black and midnight blue to every shade of grey and all the nuances of chocolate and coffee. Glitter mania A shower of glitter, beads, Swarovski crystals and small precious stones lands on the world of eyewear, transforming it into an instrument of pure seduction. Exploded onto the scene during the 1920s and consecrated during the 1980s on the catwalks of New York, Paris, Milan and London, the passion for “glitter”’ is now a craze and has also conquered the world of accessories. The glasses are presented with exaggerated shapes that are sometimes brash and showy; the edges are firm and the frames are embellished with gold, silver or multi-colour details or are available in less ostentatious versions. So rebel, so cool! Directly from the world of ‘70s punk, studs have arrived on Planet Eyewear: whether big or small they dictate the style either as details or shamelessly embedded throughout the frame. In classic tones of black and white or in the most original shades of Havana, Burgundy, grey and green, these frames, either prescription of sunglasses are dedicated to those who are not afraid of other people’s opinions. So rebel, so cool! Cat eye vs. oversize Two big trends this season: the cats-eye shape so beloved by the stars, and the boxy oversize for the eternal devotees of the vintage look with a modern twist. A walk on the wild side A deep and conscious desire to return to authenticity, origins and nature, characterizes creativity at 360°. They have broken into the world of eyewear with “Animal” inspired models with bright contrasting colours, tortoiseshell or spotted patterns and clear acetate embellished with crystal flowers or enchanted small creatures. Patterns and floral prints, huge frames with butterfly shapes in elegant combinations of colours, from pale gold to purple, dark grey to oil, until ice and silver complete the picture. Take my breath away Symbol of a strong, independent, free-spirited personality, the aviator is available in the classic version or revisited in a more modern key, with round or slightly elongated lenses. For 2015 the teardrop frames focus on metal with brass machining or the ultramodern hi-tech version with super-slim nylon temples in 100% pure titanium. The lenses are mirrored or shaded, in two-colour version, or in the brand new grey-purple, red, orange, lilac and blue shades. Out of the ordinary Amaze, surprise, get noticed. With a touch of originality, a pinch of self-irony and the “right” glasses. For those who like to challenge rules and conventions, the eyewear on offer ranges from models with unique and unmistakable design to distinctive, square-shaped, irregular and absolutely surprising versions. Lenses are round, square, hexagonal, octagonal and are inspired by pop art, the world of cinema, music and even by comic book heroes, or the shape of a heart for modern day nostalgic Lolitas. The eternal blue The colour of the sky and the sea, it has always been associated with the concept of peace and in ancient Egypt it represented the symbol for introspection and infinity. Today synonymous with style and elegance par excellence, blue goes right to the top of the list of favourite colours. From midnight blue to cobalt, from turquoise to pastel blue, from Tiffany Blue to “sugar paper” or dual colour versions with variations in shade. Black is back, a constant symbol of absolute elegance and charm but now with a special feature: it must be “matte”. An essential must-have for strong and determined characters, with sophisticated tastes. For those who cannot live without colours, fashion is focussing on fresh, soft and warm colours like Marsala - Pantone colour 2015 – which can be used with any combination and which make the glasses suitable for any outfit. Melting pot Eyewear becomes an advocate for lightness through allying itself with titanium or steel and trogramide for those who love comfort and convenience, or with horn or wood for urban style, or for those who opt for eco-friendly solutions in acetate. There is no missing the inserts in leather or fabric because glasses are not just an accessory, but an authentic item of clothing. Vedo non vedo The frames are enhanced with light transparent finishes, so as to become almost imperceptible. They can be with or without a front section with large, oval and very dark lenses, in shades of black and brown. Acetate becomes transparent in pastel tones, from light blue to indigo, from cherry red to oil, to embrace the warm colours of the earth. Chanel SPECIAL DESIGN 2015 6 All this energy is wrapped up in the BF715 MAGNETIC ladies sunglass model. The slim profile of the front section frames the lenses which are the real stars: the squared-off and sinuous frame contrasts with the long taut arch that divides the large lenses into two “hemispheres” that are themselves highlighted by two different mirror finishes. A bold but elegant design, a style that catches the eye but which at the same time is restrained thanks to its never ostentatious details. “A magnetic contrast of lines and colours” – is how the designer Corrado Rosson describes them – with the maximum in lightness and comfort: the large lenses guarantee perfect visibility and protection from the sun, the betatitanium frame ensures strength and flexibility with a weight of just 17.2 g. In the BF735 BLACK GRAVITY sunglass model the highly innovative design is expressed through a combination of taut arches and sharp 7 BLACKFIN BLACKFIN, A HIGH QUALITY DESIGN COLLECTION Taut sculpted lines, an essential design that expresses the personality of this brand of titanium glasses conceived, designed and produced entirely in Italy. A revisiting in Blackfin style for the BF730 PEARSON in the typical Panto format. The traditional “keyhole” bridge and acetate volumes have been reproduced thanks to an ingenious and revolutionary titanium machining process that by rounding off the metal edges, enhances the frame structure and gives it a new personality, made even more original in the sunglass version with darkened or mirrored lenses. “All-round” design also for the prescription BF732 EAGLE model, a concentrated burst of innovation made entirely from beta-titanium. The new patented SHARKLOCK system, designed to close and hold the lenses within their own circular mounting without screws, marks an absolute revolution in the world of optics. The technical and construction research is combined with the high quality and elegant design of this model which is also available in sunglass mode: a new interpretation of the surprising Blackfin soul. While Norm was visiting a friend in Arizona, who constructs and races planes, he noticed an old poster on a hangar wall, advertising a group of crop sprayers, back in the ‘30s, who got together on weekends to give airshows, calling themselves “The Flying Burritos”. Seeing their crude goggles, Norm imagined that they were cut out of soup cans and immediately came up with the idea, which after a great deal of study resulted in a completely new way of making frames. Each style is made with great attention to detail by Italian Craftsmen, in Northern Italy. SOUPCAN HIGHLIGHTS Handmade in Italy: Forget the traditional methods of manufacturing: TAVAT completely bypassed all of those norms and standards and sought out the true eyewear artisans to bring something revolutionary. Each frame is manufactured almost entirely by “coining” Alpacca and “dying” components, then completely assembled and finished by hand. Unique Details Found Throughout: • “Sandwhich” Frame Construction • Ultra Scratched Surface HandFinished • Rimlock Closing with Watch Crown Mechanisim • Hypoallergenic and Comfortable Nosepads Melanin Sunglass Lenses: • Eliminates up-to 98% of the violet-blue light and the associated scattered light, responsible of the haze effect • enhanced contrast • sharp vision of details • protection of retina’s health Sold Exclusively by Qualified Optical Professionals Worldwide. TAVAT 01 - MOD. As a result of Expo 2015, Milan is undergoing a Renaissance moment and is becoming a centre of reference for excellence and international renown, as happened in the past after the 1906 Universal Exhibition which saw, beginning with the Lombardy capital itself, the start of a process of development and modernization throughout the whole country. Milan has done this first through the redevelopment of historical spaces that had been left to decay but also through presenting a new look featuring skyscrapers and futuristic residential areas, created thanks to funding from entrepreneurs and big names in fashion. For example, the “Darsena”, the old river port returns to its former glory with cycle paths, docks and ports of call for tourists and pedestrian paths and routes. Where once there were the buildings of the old Milan exhibition centre, today there is Citylife, a new area with green spaces dominated by the recently built Allianz tower with another one under construction. On the site of the former Ansaldo works the Mudec, or Museum of Culture has recently been inaugurated. This houses the ethnographic collections belonging to the Milan City Council and is intended to be a meeting place for cultures from around the world. The museum will be managed by a partnership between a private group and the Milan City Council which will oversee the protection and maintenance of its heritage and assets. The world of fashion has also made its contribution to this Renaissance: Giorgio Armani has opened a building which will house the archives containing 40 years of his work, the Trussardi Foundation has contributed to the creation of the “Campo di Grano” in Porta Garibaldi and finally the Prada Foundation has opened its new headquarters, a “campus dell’arte” created by the internationally renowned architect Rem Koolhaas.
