Basili (DIEI - University of Perugia). Analysis and validation of data from the weather stations based on Trasimeno Lake area, analysis of the hydrological cycle of Trasimeno Lake and creation of an extreme temperature forecast model, using satellite and ground based data. A website with the history of the project and all the achievements is available (www.biondiriccardo.it/LAGO/LAGOindex.htm). The project and its dissemination allowed many national research institutes (Institutions Markets Technologies - IMT Lucca Institute for Advanced Studies, IRPI-CNR, IRSA-CNR, ISMAR-CNR), international institutes (University of Belgrade and the University Granma of Cuba), organizations (Perugia Province, Trasimeno Regional Park), schools, universities (Perugia, Siena, Firenze, Bologna) and privates (televisions, newspapers and many other privates for different purposes) to develop new projects, thesis, and to support decision makers. Consorzio Cresci, Piazza IV Novembre 23, 06100 Perugia, Italy Research Institute 1 September 2002 – 30 November 2004 Fellowship under the supervision of Prof. P. Basili (DIEI - University of Perugia). Data fusion of measurements from GPS receivers, microwave radiometers and numerical weather models (ECMWF) to estimate precipitable water vapour, cloud liquid, tropospheric total delay to validate measurements of MERIS on board of ENVISAT, in collaboration with the ENVISAT validation and calibration team led by Prof. Ciotti (Department of Electrical Engineering - University of L´Aquila). Two experimental campaigns were organized (in Perugia and Isola d’Elba) for the estimation of the precipitable water vapour from GPS, ground based radiometer and SSM/I producing maps over Italian area using geostatistical interpolation. The research also included the analysis of data from radiometer WVR-1100 to estimate atmospheric water vapour content, cloud liquid, attenuation in Ka band using statistical models. Nowcasting studies with data fusion of measurements from radiometer, lidar, weather station, GPS, cloud camera and ECMWF data were developed using neural networks and regression.
