EC 6th FP Project M-TRADE started
On September 19th, the EC 6th FP Project M-TRADE (Multimodal TRAnsportation
supporteD by EGNOS ) was started. M-TRADE’s main goal is to analyse, validate and
assess the differentiators of introducing GNSS positioning technologies (EGNOS and
future GALILEO services) in the multimodal freight transport sector, as technological
measure aimed at contributing to the EU policies in the frame of transport sustainable
development.
More specifically, the project aims at attracting transport companies that have not used
the multimodal transportation so far. By creating innovative applications and service
tools, supported by GNSS and combined with the use of the necessary equipment and
technology framework, the project members want to get those non-users to try out the
new positioning technology.
M-TRADE’s idea is to connect the implementation phase to a pilot demonstration. The
assessment of results will also consider user feedback gathered during the
demonstrations, and will then produce recommendations and guidelines for future
development and implementation of M-TRADE-based applications for the User
Community.
