Dear Parents,
It is a very busy time for the IST community and I hope your children have been keeping you up-to-date with all
the activities.
There was excellent support for International Day and I would like to thank the PTA, parents, faculty and
students, for all the hard work and preparation that went into making it a great success.
SWIMATHON RESULTS
On behalf of the Fratelli della Sacra Famiglia and the villagers of Nanoro in Burkina Faso, I would like to thank all
the sponsors (and swimmers) who contributed so generously to our recent Swimathon which raised €1500
towards the completion of our well project in that desert-threatened country.
Your support is deeply appreciated and encouraging.

IST DEPARTURES
It is part of life in an International School that we have to say goodbye to a number of students and their families
at the end of each year. I would like to thank them for being part of this school and wish them well as they move
back „home‟ or to new schools, workplaces and countries.

NEW STAFF
We are in the process of appointing new staff and planning classes and teaching assignments for the next
school year and will be sending you the relevant information for your child(ren) in a few weeks time.
At this point I am delighted to inform you that the following staff have already been appointed and will be joining
IST in September.
New Lower School Staff:
Isabel Rodriguez
Miss Rodriguez is a qualified and experienced teacher who has been teaching for 5 years in
Ireland. Her teaching is inquiry based and she shares her love of music with her class and more
widely in the school. She also teaches football as an after-school activity and does volunteer
work abroad in the summer.
Mark Star
Mr Star is an experienced educator, currently head of primary in an international school in Qatar.
Starting his career in Australia with training as an EAL teacher he has worked in the United Arab
Emirates, Kuwait, China and Thailand.
Angela Craggs
Ms Craggs has a background in Environmental Science, International Food Marketing and
Business Management. Since qualifying as a teacher 9 years ago she has worked in Scotland
and Hungary.
New Upper School Staff:
Victoria Castle
Ms Castle is British and has a science degree and teaching qualification, specialising in
chemistry. She is an experienced teacher who has worked in England, Tanzania and Brazil
teaching general science, biology and chemistry to children from the ages of 11-18 through both
British and International programmes including the IB DP.
David Ewan Chalmers
Mr Chalmers is an experienced teacher who has worked in the UK, China, Qatar and is currently
in Russia where he has been since 2006 teaching English as a first and second language up to
IB A1 and also TOK, and EE.
Ron Entwistle
Mr Entwistle started his career in England and he has also taught in Israel and Spain and is
currently teaching mathematics up to IB DP in the UAE. He has also worked as IB Coordinator
and University Counsellor and will continue in these roles at IST. He is a moderator for the IBO.
Martin Griffiths
With a background in Art & Design, Photography and English, Mr Griffiths is currently working in
the UK as Head of Arts. His role extends beyond the art-room to encompass other departments
in cross-curricular projects, theatrical performances and exhibitions.
Josh Holtby
Mr Holtby has a background in humanities and has experience of living and working in both
Lower and Upper Schools in the USA, UK, Uruguay and, most recently, in an IB school in
Switzerland.

Peter Williams
Having started with a career in banking and then moving to teaching a variety of subjects
including Business Studies, Economics and Mathematics in the UK, Mr Williams is currently
working at an international school in Italy teaching middle school Mathematics, Language Arts
and Social Sciences.
Class Allocation 2011-2012
We will continue to have two sections per grade starting from Kindergarten. As usual, students will be enrolled in
these sections according to the Board Policy below and a provisional list will be sent to parents with the report
card at the end of June.
Board Policy 6.401: Splitting Grades Procedure
At a given date the management team evaluates the enrolment situation and makes decisions based on
enrolment numbers and classroom sizes.
The first division is done by dividing boys and girls.
The second division is done by listing Italian and non-Italian children separately and balancing these
between the 2 classes.
The classes will then be compiled by taking one from each list alternating alphabetically according to the
child‟s surname.
The only exception to this will be in the case of twins where the parents indicate whether it is preferable
for the siblings to be kept together or separated.
If the grade is not full, an equal number of empty spaces will be kept in each class.
Any students enrolled after this date will be allocated according to the same criteria as far as this is
possible.
Parents will be informed of their child‟s class (and, if possible, classroom teacher) by the end of the
academic year.
Any exception to the above procedure must be authorised by the Head of School.

END OF YEAR PROCEDURES
I would like to remind you that the report cards will be sent by email during the last week in June providing all
outstanding fees are paid and school textbooks, equipment and library books have been returned.
Please therefore ensure that we have your correct e-mail address and inform Monica Jona [email protected] if

All ceremonies will take place in the IST Assembly Hall.

Please remember that school continues until Thursday 23 June at 12.00, and all students are expected to
continue to attend until this time.

OPERATIONS
We have started an insect prevention program. The products used are absolutely safe for children and they are,
of course, used when nobody is in the school. The programme is aimed to reduce the presence of insects in the
building, compatible with the fact that we are in a green area and that we teach the children to respect and
cohabit with the surrounding nature.
The air conditioning system has been activated. As this is the first year in the new campus, we are still finetuning it to get a comfortable temperature in the classrooms.

Risultati Swimathlon
I Fratelli della Sacra Famiglia e gli abitanti di Nanoro in Burkina Faso, desiderano ringraziare tutte le persone
che hanno sponsorizzato l‟evneto Swimathon. Abbiamo raccolto € 1500.00 per completare il progetto di un

Come accade di consueto nelle scuole Internazionali, dobbiamo salutare un certo numero di alunni e le loro

Stiamo organizzando le classi e gli incarichi per il prossimo anno scolastico e nelle prossime settimane vi
invieremo maggiori informazioni. Ad oggi sono lieta di informarvi che i seguenti insegnanti inizieranno a lavorare
all‟IST da settembre.
Nuovi Insegnanti Scuola Elementare:
Isabel Rodriguez
La Sig.ra Rodriguez è abilitata all‟insegnamento nella scuola elementare ed ha insegnato per 5
anni in Irlanda. Le piace condividere con la classe l‟amore per la musica, insegnare calcio come
attività extrascolastica e fare del volontariato durante il periodo estivo.
Mark Star
Il Sig. Star è un educatore con molti anni di esperienza. Al momento è Responsabile della
scuola Elementare presso una scuola internazionale nel Qatar. Ha iniziato la sua carriera in
Australia come insegnante di EAL ed ha lavorato negli Emirati Arabi, Kwait, China e Thailandia.
Angela Craggs
La Sig.ra Craggs è laureata nelle materie scientifiche e International Food and Marketing and
Business. Ha successivamente conseguito l‟abilitazione all‟insegnamento ed ha insegnato per
9 anni in Scozia e Ungheria.
Nuovi Insegnanti Scuola Media Superiore:
Victoria Castle
La Sig.ra Castle è Inglese, è laureata in scienze ed ha l‟abilitazione all‟insegnamento e
specializzazione in Chimica. Ha molta esperienza nel campo dell‟insegnamento ed ha lavorato
in Inghilterra, Tanzania e Brasile dove insegnava scienze, biologia e chimica IB DP ai ragazzi
dagli 11 ai 18 anni.
David Ewan Chalmers
Mr. Chalmers insegna inglese ed ha esperienza lavorativa in Inghilterra, Cina, Qatar e Russia,
dove lavora dal 2006 e insegna inglese IB A1, TOK e EE.
Ron Entwistle
Il sig. Entwistle ha iniziato la sua carriera di insegnante di matematica in Inghilterra. In seguito
ha insegnato in Israele, Spagna ed al momento insegna matematica IB DP negli Emirati Arabi.
Il Sig. Entwistle ha anche lavorato come IB Coordinator e University Counsellor e ricoprirà questi
ruoli anche all‟IST. Il Sig. Entwistle è anche “moderator” per IBO.
Martin Griffiths
Il Sig. Griffiths ha un passato nel campo dell‟arte e del design, fotografia e inglese. Attualmente
lavora in Inghilterra e ricopre la carica di Head of Arts. Il suo ruolo si estenderà fuori dall‟aula di
arte e comprenderà altri dipartimenti e progetti intercurriculari, rappresentazioni teatrali e mostre.
Josh Holtby
Il Sig. Holtby ha lavorato nel campo delle discipline classiche sia nella scuola slementare che
nella scuola media e superiore. Ha lavorato negli Stati Uniti, Inghilterra, Uruguay e
recentemente presso una scuola IB in Svizzera.
Peter Williams
Il Sig. Williams ha iniziato la sua carriera in banca e succesivamente è passato
all‟insegnamento, in particolare business studies, ecomomia e matematica in Inghilterra. Al
momento Mr. Williams insegna matematica, language arts e social studies presso una scuola
internazionale in Italia.

Divisione delle classi2011-2012
Il prossimo anno continueremo ad avere due sezioni per classe dalla Kindergarten. Come solitamente accade,
le sezioni saranno formate in base al Board Policy che trovate qui di seguito, ed un elenco provvisorio delle
classi sarà inviato ai genitori insieme alla pagella alla fine di giugno.
Board Policy 6.401: (Procedure per la Divisione delle Classi) Splitting Grades Procedure
I board valuta al composizione delle classi in base al numero di iscritti per ogni classe e le dimensioni
delle aule.
La prima divisione viene fatta dividendo maschi e femmine.
La seconda divisione e fatta elencando i bambini Italiani e quelli stranieri cercando di suddividerli fra le
due classi in modo equo.
Le classi saranno poi suddivise alternando i bambini in ordine alfabetico per cognome.
L‟unica eccezione sono i gemelli. I genitori dovranno indicare se preferiscono tenere insieme i gemelli o
dividerli.
Se la classe non è piena, vi sarà un numero equo di posti disponibili in ogni sezione per eventuali nuove
iscrizioni.
Eventuali nuovi iscritti saranno inseriti seguendo lo stesso criterio.
I genitori conosceranno la classe (e se possibile il nome dell‟insegnante) entro la fine dell‟anno
scolastico.
Ogni modifica alle procedure dovrà essere autorizzata dal Board.

Desidero ricordarvi che le pagelle scolastiche saranno inviate via email l‟ultima settimana di giugno purchè tutti i
libri di testo, libri/materiali della biblioteca vengano riconsegnati. Siete pregati di informare la Sig.ra Monica Jona

Gli alunni nelle classi dalla Nursery alla 10a dovranno indossare la divisa scolastica; gli alunni di 11a dovranno
essere eleganti – i jeans non sono permessi. Gli alunni che non indosseranno la divisa scolastica correttamente
o non saranno vestiti in maniera adeguata all‟occasione, non potranno partecipare alla loro cerimonia.
Vi ricordiamo che l‟ultimo giorno di scuola è il 23 giugno alle ore 12.00 e tutti gli alunni dovranno frequentare la
scuola fino all‟ultimo giorno.
Auspichiamo di vedervi numerosi alle cerimonie di fine anno
OPERATIONS
Abbiamo avviato un programma di prevenzione verso gli insetti.
Utilizziamo prodotti assolutamente sicuri per l„uomo, e comunque solo quando nessuno è presente a scuola.
Lo scopo è limitare il numero di insetti, compatibilmente con il fatto che la scuola è in mezzo al verde e che
insegniamo agli allievi a convivere con la natura e a rispettarla.
E‟ stato attivato l‟impianto di condizionamento. Essendo il primo anno è necessario un periodo di taratura per
avere nelle aule una temperatura ottimale.
