"TRIESTE, AMONGST OASES AND DESERTS"
COMPETITION BRIEF
The Press Club of Trieste celebrates its 50th anniversary launching a reportage competition open to
young emerging authors. It is an opportunity to narrate a context, listen to its voices, observe its shadows
thus refining an initial intuition through a careful and intelligent inquiry work.
What do we know about a city where geography, histories and languages form a
peculiar urban and social context, where a young and dynamic humanity lives in a
physical realm that is almost immobile? The competition proposes to investigate
Trieste, its rhythms, ideas, ironies with an open mind, inquiring on the spot or retracing the image of the city that people living elsewhere have in mind.

Registration is free
The competition is open to young authors who are between 20 and 35 years of age on May 31, 2014. To
enter the competition one should send electronically the reportage files and the registration form before
the submission date.

The award ceremony will be held in Trieste in the Summer 2014 during a city public event.

"TRIESTE, AMONGST OASES AND DESERTS"
RULES AND SUBMISSION
The report must be unpublished or published between January and May 2014. Collective participation is
permitted. Each participant or group of participants can compete in one section, respectively, with only one
text, one graphic reportage or a video. Each submission shall contain the names of all the authors in the
group.
Reports and entry forms must be emailed by May 31, 2014 to ([email protected]) in the
following ways:
- If file size is smaller than 1000 kb it can be sent directly to ([email protected])
- If file size is larger than 1000 kb it should be sent to ([email protected]) using servers
such as "we transfer" or "send space" (free online systems capable to transfer up to 2 GB)
Graphic reportage
Works shall have a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 20 drawn boards. The text must be in Italian or
Slovene or in other language with attached translation into Italian or English. The boards should to be
scanned (minimum resolution of 200 dpi and image size of 20x30 cm) and sent AS PDF FILE WITH PAGES
NUMBERED IN SEQUENCE. The winners will have to provide high-resolution images upon request.
Video Reportage
Minimum duration of the video 5 minutes, maximum 15 minutes including credits; it can be in color or black
and white. It must have Italian or Slovene original version or have English or Italian subtitles. It shall be
submitted as AVI or MPEG-4 (16:9 aspect ratio and resolution of minimum 720x576 Pal). The selected
winners will have to provide high-resolution video files upon request. The video must be accompanied by a
short synopsis of max. 1.000 characters (including spaces and punctuation) sent AS PDF FILE WITH
PAGES NUMBERED IN SEQUENCE. All authors, and technical staff shall be credited
Written Reportage
The text must have a minimum of 10.000 characters and a maximum of 20.000 characters (including spaces
and punctuation), it must be accompanied by photographic images (minimum 1, maximum 5 images with a
resolution of 200 dpi and minimum image dimension 10x15 cm), the text and images should be sent AS PDF
FILE WITH PAGES NUMBERED IN SEQUENCE. Texts must be in Italian or Slovene or in other language
with Italian or English translation included.

Responsibilities and obligations upon participation
All participants understand, accept and state the following, otherwise are considered excluded from the competition:

that they are the legitimate holders of any direct or indirect copyright for the submitted content; to authorize the Circolo della Stampa
di Trieste (CdS) to use and publicize the submitted content for promotional and cultural aims related to the competition. The
organizers guarantee that the names of the authors will be quoted in relation to their submitted material, without any economic
request on either side ever.

to release the CdS, any person related to it, its representatives, employees and partners from any liability, charge, damage, cost
and/or expense derived from or connected to possible claims and/or actions of third parties claiming that the publication or diffusion
of the "content" infringes any applicable law, rights such as copyrights, image rights or any other like name, honor, respectability.

-participants assume all responsibility for the "content" submitted by ensuring that it is not protected by copyright and they have all
rights of use.

participation to the competition gives implied consent to CdS and to third parties, related to the event, to use the submitted content
for communication to the press, broadcast on television / web as well as on CdS partners' websites. The promoters reserve the right
to use the submitted texts, pictures, graphics or videos for the establishment of an archive, as well as for the purpose of promoting
the competition and related initiatives.
