Every individual counts, every individual has a role to play, and every individual makes a
difference.
The future of this planet lies in the tremendous energy, enthusiasm, and commitment of
young people around the world.
Global Youth Service Day proves it.
For the second year in a row Project Harmony-Armenia implements the role of a GYSD

youth plays the most important role in serving the community and is an inseparable part
of it. Giving a special importance to community service and youth involvement, every
year Project Harmony becomes a part of the Global World and connects youth around a
united idea.
Every region of Armenia becomes one of the most active participants of GYSD
contributing all their efforts and enthusiasm in creating a healthy environment for future
generations.

Every year the region of Ararat is
actively
involved
in
GYSD
celebrations, however, this year
GYSD included a wider scope.
The largest Ararat GYSD event was
called “Recognizing our historical
values and realizing who is the
volunteer”, which took place on
April 21st in Pokr Vedi school.
The event embodied 3 parts. It began
with a talk show on “Volunteerism”,
which was presented through a
Marching group in front of Khor Virap monastery
PowerPoint presentation. Teachers,
pupils of 7 schools in Ararat region (Surenavan, Ararat #2, Vedi #3, Taperakan, Noyakert,
Kakhtsrashen, Pokr Vedi), the director of Project Harmony-Armenia David Simpson,
representatives of Project Harmony and “Harmony” Foundation, representatives of
different NGOs, a Peace Corps volunteer Emily Brighton, and Junior Achievements
Ararat branch representative Arthur Nazaryan expressed their opinions and attitudes
towards “Volunteerism” proving it with their participation at walk tour to Khor Virap,
which was being implemented within the framework of “Recognizing our historical
values” project.
After the talk show Pokr Vedi schoolchildren presented the guests a PowerPoint
presentation telling about old Artashat and Khor Virap Monastery. The talk show was
followed by planting the “Park of Friendship”. All the 7 school representatives and the
guests were participating at that traditional event of Pokr Vedi school. Trees with names
of schools, NGOs and International
organizations have been planted, the
most popular among which was the
“Project Harmony” tree, which was the
3rd one in Pokr Vedi school yard.
The first Project Harmony tree was
planted in 2005 during GYSD
celebration; the second one has been
planted this year within the framework
of “Cooperation Tree Planting” event,
when school partner organizations
planted individual trees.
A walk towards Khor Virap Monastery
Walk tour to Khor Virap followed the
tree planting. Walk tour was lead by the school military service teacher Mr. Naghdalyan.
Each school was walking with their own posters, and in spite of rainy weather all the
pupils were happy to participate at walk tour. When reaching Khor Virap, Pokr Vedi
schoolchildren guided the guests both in English and in Armenian. Getting introduced
with Khor Virap Monastery, the name of which was connected with the adoption of
