Cesena, 8 October 2014 - On 13 and 14 October, the 10 edition of the Annual Forum of the Institute of Health
and Productivity Management (IHPM) will be held at the Technogym Village of Cesena.
IHPM is an international non-profit organism promoting employees' health as a priority asset for corporate
business and performance optimisation. The Institute deals with communicating the importance of investing in
policies designed to improve the health, well-being and productivity of corporate human resources as the main
source of competitive advantage in the global marketplace.
Technogym and IHPM are both partners in the Workplace Wellness Alliance initiative, launched in 2009 at the
World Economic Forum in Davos, a valuable project reuniting a number of world-class corporate giants,
promoting an initiative that focuses on workplace wellness: a major asset through which the private sector can
contribute to the common cause of public health. The reason behind the project is that, “by employing over 54% of
the world adult population, companies are in a critical position to effectively help fight non communicable diseases
by implementing actions designed to improve their employees' health.’*
.
Today, the World Health Organisation is on red alert: the medical focus in on NCDs - non communicable diseases –
essentially caused by unhealthy habits including a sedentary lifestyle, a bad diet, drinking and smoking. These
diseases are the primary cause of death world-wide and lead to over 60% of all premature deaths every year.
To promote sustainable economic and social development over the next few years, it is necessary to invest
resources in health protection and prevention and make men and women, once again, the focus of attention.
Wellness will become a macro-trend in the near future; both public players - like governments and local authorities
- and private players like enterprises are now taking action. Some top international market players have already
decided to commit to health protection and prevention on the workplace - the place where so many people
spend most of their time - and wage war against unhealthy lifestyles. On the one hand, this choice is part of a
corporate social responsibility strategy, and on the other hand, it expresses a more pragmatic concern for the
well-being of employees as a major asset for company development.
Nerio Alessandri, President and Founder of Technogym, will open the Forum by delivering a speech on the
Technogym Ecosystem and its application to the corporate environment; Silvano Zanuso, Head of the Technogym
Science Centre, will then present studies on the ideal amount of physical exercise.
