L’aria di primavera porta desideri di novità. è la stagione delle curiosità e del rinnovamento, è il momento in cui si comincia a programmare la vacanza estiva, ma anche il periodo giusto per fare un bel
viaggio: non è altissima stagione, le destinazioni sono meno affollate
e dunque si sta meglio.
La copertina del nostro Magazine è dedicata alla Thailandia, il paese
del sorriso, dove è possibile trascorrere vacanze su spiagge da sogno,
da Phuket a Ko Samui, da Pattaya a Hua Hin, luoghi incantevoli
dove davvero si riesce a rilassarsi. E poi Bangkok, città affascinante,
una vera metropoli d’Asia. Un viaggio durante il quale non va trascurata la cucina, che ha sempre un gusto particolarmente piccante.
Ma non è l’unica destinazione che Vi proponiamo. Altro mare, altro
continente con le Bahamas, paradiso tropicale nel cuore dei Caraibi,

S
e è vero che un Paese, una cultura, si capisce solo a tavola, se insomma è vero che siamo ciò che mangiamo, allora forse questo è
uno dei pochi modi per arrivare all’essenza della concezione thai
del mondo e della vita. In Thailandia, infatti, è enormemente più
importante la preparazione rispetto alla materia, ha più valore la forma
che il contenuto, più meritevole di attenzione l’aspetto piuttosto che l’essenza. Può apparire del tutto superficiale un atteggiamento che si preoccupa così tanto dell’apparenza a scapito della sua natura, ma quando ci si
trova di fronte a piatti che somigliano a delle vere e proprie opere d’arte
e, alzando un poco la testa, si prova a fare dei confronti con le decorazioni
dorate di un tempio che si staglia poco più in là, allora le cose cambiano e
ci si accorge con stupore che la superficialità è stata solo nostra e che forse
in Thailandia non ci si preoccupa della materia solo perché questa è già
eccellente: non si può fare altro che migliorarla con la creatività.

f it is true that we understand a Country, a culture, only staying at the table, if, in short, we are what we
eat, then maybe this is almost the only way to reach the essence of the Thai idea of the world and life.
That is to say that, in Thailand, is more important the preparation of the matter to be applied for; it is
more valuable the form than the content; the appearance deserve more attention than the essence.
It may seem entirely superficial the attitude that cares so much about the appearance at the expense of
its nature. When you are in front of dishes that look like real work of arts and, raising your head a little bit,
you try to compare the dishes with the golden decoration of a temple that stands a little further, then you
know that things are different. You realize, with astonishment, you were superficial and perhaps, in
Thailand, they do not care about the matter just because it is already excellent. It is possible just to
improve it with the creativity. Changing the perspective is possible to find astonishing discoveries.
Maybe you can use an unusual means of transport: the train.
It is early afternoon in Bangkok. The sun rip out golden blades from the spires of Wat Phra
Kaew, the Grand Palace; in your eyes there is still the magnificence of the Golden Buddha of Wat Traimit. Small floating microcosms line the Chao Phraya waters in search
of an unknown truth. You are here, in a hotel that smells of wood, wondering if by
chance you are in a wrong time, if, for some strange reason, a capricious god had
catapulted you in the colonial atmosphere of “L’amant” by Marguerite Duras
or in “Blue eyes, Black hair” only for that inescapable sense of useless expenditure which is love. A kind attendant, with the exquisite politeness that outside the Orient you will define bothersome cloying affectation, brings you back to the present; you are at
the Oriental Hotel in Bangkok, and he is telling you
that soon you will be at the Hualampong Station and you have the right perception of
leaving for the trip of your lifetime.

ancora l’imponenza del Buddha d’oro del
Wat Traimit. Piccoli microcosmi galleggianti solcano pigri le acque del Chao
Phraya in cerca di chissà quali verità e tu
sei qui, nell’atrio di un albergo che odora
di legno, a chiederti se per caso non hai
sbagliato epoca, se per qualche strano
motivo sei stato catapultato dalle bizze
di un dio capriccioso nelle atmosfere
coloniali di L’amant di Marguerite Duras
o forse, e solo per quell’ineluttabile senso di inutile dispendio che è l’amore, in
Occhi blu, capelli neri. Un inserviente gentile, con quella gentilezza raffinata che
fuori d’Oriente definiresti con fastidio
solo stucchevole affettazione, ti riporta al presente: sei all’Oriental Hotel di
Bangkok, ti stanno dicendo che fra poco
sarai alla Hualampong Station e hai l’esatta percezione di stare per partire per il
viaggio della vita. Il treno si chiama The
Eastern and Oriental Express ed è un
sogno futurista fatto di arredi, tappezzeria, metallo, cuoio, legno, cura e eleganza che per sei giorni ti chiamerà per

Is The Eastern and Oriental Express train and it is a futuristic dream
made of furniture, upholstery, metal, leather, wood, regard and elegance. For six days, it will call you by name putting you in the
middle of the universe. The point of reference are: the ‘20s,
the ecru dresses, the essential luxury of Chanel, the foxtrot
and the Great Gatsby, the Turkish cigarettes, the short skirts
and the hair shining with brillantine. But the destination is
not Istanbul, is the jungle, the Kmer temples of the lower
Mekong, the villages at the borders with Laos, buffalos
and paddy fields, Prasat Sikhoraphum silks, elephants
and gibbons in the Khao Yai National Park. Is the Epic
Thailand tour and it takes you from Bangkok up to
Chiang Mai in the North, but there are several other
routes. The Eastern and Oriental Express, in fact, is
part of an exclusive circuit of luxury trains, whose
father is the Orient Express by Agatha Christie. This
circuit also includes the Hiram Bingham in the
Inca Peru and the Northern Belle in Great
Britain. In the same way you can choose to
leave from Paris with the Venice-Simplon
Orient Express, cross the Balkans and arrive in Turkey or take the train in Venice and

pietanze colorate mentre fuori dal finestrino fugge inesorabile e violento il verde profondo della foresta pluviale.

La cucina thai, visto che risulta il prodotto dell’influenza di culture diverse, è ricca di sapori e tradizioni. Alcuni cibi derivano dalla cucina cinese,
altri risentono dell’influenza araba, in
ogni caso, anche con notevoli differenze fra regione e regione, l’uso di
aglio, peperoncino e di un caratteristico miscuglio di succo di limone,
citronella e coriandolo fresco è comune un po’ ovunque.
Piatti tipici
Som Tum: composta da tranci di papaya, noccioline e gamberetti
Padtai: è un mix di vegetali con gamberetti, noccioline frullate
e succo di limone;
Khao mun khai: riso fritto con pollo e una salsa nera tipica locale;
Krapao: piatto carne e pesce (maiale, pollo, manzo, frutti di
mare) accompagnato da basilico e riso;
Tomkahkai: piatto preparato con erbe, limone, funghi, pollo e
latte di cocco;
Tom yum kung: è una zuppa di erbe e pollo o frutti di mare;
Pha naeng: piatto piccante preparato con manzo, pollo o maiale cotti in padella e accompagnati dal latte di cocco;
Gaeng-phet-gai: zuppa di carne e latte di cocco;
Kai phat met mamuang himmaphan: acaciù, chilli secco e pollo.

«O
k, lo ammetto, ho un pene!». Charlize Theron è
così: parla come una scaricatrice di porto,
scherza come fanno gli uomini e racconta
senza remore la propria vita. Gioca con chi
la intervista, le piace stupire e andare contro l’etichetta: «Mica
parlo così solo sul set. Dove sta scritto che solo gli uomini possono fare
battutacce da caserma. Io ne faccio di migliori. A volte riesco persino a
imbarazzarli!�. è brava e bella, e lo sa. Un Oscar all’attivo come
Miglior Attrice nel 2005 per il ruolo in Monster, interpretazione
che le ha fatto vincere anche un Orso d’Argento a Berlino e
un Golden Globe. Per quel ruolo è ingrassata 15 chili e si è
imbruttita senza problemi.
Nata nel 1975 a Benoni, in Sudafrica,
passa l’infanzia nella fattoria dei genitori. A soli 15 anni vive una tragedia familiare: la madre, per legittima difesa,
uccide il padre alcolizzato davanti ai

Sin dalla sua nascita la Benetton Group si è distinta
all’interno del panorama commerciale per le campagne
trasgressive firmate da Oliviero Toscani e ancora oggi
non smette di far parlare di sé. Questa volta è posta
sotto la lente di ingrandimento la campagna Unhate,
reportage fotografico lanciato dal marchio di Ponzano
Veneto che ritrae esponenti illustri della politica, della
religione e dell’economia abbandonarsi ad un bacio
spontaneo. Il messaggio di Unhate risulta evidente:
promuovere l’unione tra persone di cultura, religione,
colore o ideali differenti. Un’immagine in particolare
però ha fatto scalpore, quella che immortala in uno
scambio affettivo papa Joseph Ratzinger e l’Imam di
Al Ahzar Ahmed el Tayyeb. Il Vaticano non ha gradito il
bacio e ne ha subito chiesto la ritirata, ottenuta seduta
stante. A dispetto di quanto predicato nelle sacre
scritture l’amore non è una cosa per tutti e nemmeno
il senso dell’humor.

letto Rin Tin Tin: La vita e la leggenda, una nuova biografia
sull’attore a quattro zampe più famoso della storia del cinema.
Secondo la scrittrice americana Susan Orlean, autrice della biografia,
fu proprio il pastore tedesco nel 1929 a ricevere il maggior numero di
voti dai giurati che dovevano assegnare l’Oscar all’attore protagonista.
La giuria non ebbe il coraggio di conferire ad un cane la preziosa statuetta e preferirono ripetere la votazione.
La storia di Rin Tin Tin è leggendaria: fu trovato da un
soldato statunitense di nome Lee Duncan in un
canile bombardato in Francia, durante la fine
della Prima guerra mondiale. Terminato il
conflitto, fu riportato dal suo padrone
negli Stati Uniti e addestrato a saltare e a esibirsi in svariati numeri. Un
giorno fu notato dal produttore
cinematografico Darryl F. Zanuck
che lo scritturò immediatamente.
Protagonista di celebri film muti

died at the age of 80 years old in a
monkey hospital in Florida. A very long
life for a chimpanzee, whose average
life, for its species, is around 35- 45
years. A true “Guinness Record of Primates”.

ho believes that bad actors play “like dogs”
did not read Rin Tin Tin, the Life and the
Legend, a new biography on the most famous actor on all fours, in the history of cin-
ema.
According to the American writer, Susan Orleans, author of
the biography, the German Shepherd dog in 1929 received
the most votes from the jurors who had to assign the Academy Award for Best Actor. The jury did not have the courage
to give a dog the valuable statuette and chose to repeat
the vote.
The story is now a legend: Rin Tin Tin was found in a bombed
dog pound in France, at the end of World War I by an American soldier, Lee Duncan. Soon they became inseparable, al-
ways together even during the gunfights. At the end
of the war, the dog was brought back to its master
in the United States and trained to jump and perform in various shows. One day, a film producer
Darryl F. Zanuck noticed the dog and engaged
him immediately.
The dog was the main character of famous silent film as Where The North Begins, the dog
was able to convey feelings and moods better than most actors of that time. In a short
time gained a huge reputation. Just before
the Great Depression of 1929 in the United
States, the dog achieved an international
popularity, becoming the icon of freedom
and American justice.
Then Hollywood honoured the dog with
a star on the legendary Walk of Fame and
his biographer supposed the hero-dog to win a
posthumous Oscar prize.
On the contrary, even if few critics continue
to show a strong bias, the stars on all fours
continue to shine: an example is the case
of Uggie, jack russel co- star in The Artist
film-revelation of the year, winner of the
Golden Collar Awards (an event created
to honor dogs who play notable roles
in film).
Equally popular in these recent years
is Inspector Rex, a worthy successor
of Rin Tin Tin. In the plot, Rex is the
army dog and, like the predecessor,
is orphan (after the murder of the dog
master) and for this reason is adopted
by the Inspector Richard Moser, of the

pellicola del 1987, Hachiko è il simbolo dell’estrema lealtà e

Il film Io & Marley, invece, tratto dall’omonimo libro che ha
appassionato i proprietari di cani di mezzo mondo, non è la tipica commedia sul migliore amico dell’uomo, ma l’evoluzione
di una giovane coppia che, assieme al suo labrador pasticcione
e tenerissimo, affronta gli imprevisti, le rinunce e le difficoltà
della vita quotidiana.
Dunque, non chiamateli cani: questi sono attori di razza!

Remake of the previous film dated 1987, Hachiko is the icon of the
extreme devotion and faith, but also of unselfish love of a dog for
its friend- master.
While the movie Marley & Me, based on the same book that fascinates masters from all around the world, is not the typical comedy
on the man’s best friend, but the evolution of a young couples that,
with their Labrador, tender and muddler, go through unexpected
events, renounces, and difficulties of everyday life.
So…do not call them dogs: these are pedigree actors!

What is the link between this lyrical Italian
ballad and the Austrian painter Gustav Klimt?
When Garibaldi was wounded in a leg from a lieutenant of the Royal Army, the patriot with the red beard was trying to gain freedom:
he wanted to remove Rome from the Papal power and complete
the unification of our country. It was 1862. the same year some hundreds of kilometres further to North, in a mountainous area that still
was not yet Austria, was born Gustav Klimt.
We are around the end of the nineteenth century and that one was
a Vienna dominated from an historical painting. These are the last
waltz of the empire that will be definitely ditched by the great noise
of the two world war and, together with Klimt, we outline the first
expressions of art that begin to speak to the biggest revolution of
the artistic Avant-Guardes.

Quando Garibaldi fu sparato ad una gamba da un tenente
dell’esercito regio, il patriota dalla barba rossa stava cercando di conquistare una libertà: voleva sottrarre Roma al potere
pontificio e completare l’unificazione del nostro Paese. Era il
1862. In quello stesso anno, qualche centinaia di km più a nord,
in un territorio montano che ancora non era l’Austria, vedeva
la luce Gustav Klimt.
Siamo alla fine dell’Ottocento e quella in cui nasce Klimt è
una Vienna dominata da una pittura storicista. Sono gli ultimi

Gustav esordisce con delle opere che
rispecchiano il gusto tradizionale dell’epoca: uno stile che si rifà al passato, mescolando la storia con il Mito, citando
la pittura veneta del Cinquecento di Tiziano e Veronese. Queste prime opere,
però, non rappresentano ancora lo stile
simbolista e art nouveau che l’artista
raggiungerà al volgere del nuovo secolo.
Abbandonata la rappresentazione mimetica e del verosimile, Klimt adotta
un disegno fortemente bidimensionale.
I volumi sono appiattiti e le forme sono

mixing history with Myth, citing the sixteenth century Venetian painting, Titian

at the turn of the century. Abandoned the
mimetic representation of the likely, Klimt
adopts a strongly two-dimensional drawing. The volumes are flattened and the

Emilie Flöge, compagna e musa del pittore, è titolare del celebre salone
di moda Schwestern Flöge in Mariahilfer Strasse. Ha diciassette anni
quando incontra Gustav per la prima volta, da allora non lo lascerà mai.
Neanche quando Gustav arrivò ad avere ben quattordici figli da altre
donne. Nel 1902 Gustav la ritrae in una bellissima tela conservata oggi
al Historisches Museum der Stadt di Vienna: un opera di svolta in cui per
la prima volta il motivo ornamentale prevale sulla verosimiglianza e la
figura stessa diventa arabesco.
In occasione del 150esimo dalla nascita del Maestro, il Museo Austriaco
del folclore dedica una mostra ai modelli di abiti e stoffe delle sorelle
Flöge, splendidi esemplari di Jugendstil.

Emilie Flöge, partner and muse of the painter, is the owner of the
famous fashion house Schwestern Flöge in Mariahilfer Strasse. She was
seventeen years old when met Gustav for the first time, since then, she
will never leave him. Even when Gustav came to have fourteen children
by other women. In 1902, Gustav portrays her in a beautiful painting,
now kept at the Historisches Museum der Stadt in Vienna: a work place
where for the first time the ornamental motif prevails on the likelihood
and the figure becomes arabesque.
In the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of the Master, the Austrian
folklore Museum devoted to an exhibitions of textiles and clothing
patterns by sister Flöge, beautiful examples of Art Noveau.

exhibit is complemented by itineraries that will guide the visitor to
discover, on one hand, works of religious art preserved in the churches of Verona and, on the other hand, extraordinary painting interventions created for palaces and lordly villas of the city and the
province that will reveal the golden age of the decorations in villas.

con la perfezione cui solo un vero genio creativo può ambire. Vissuto nella New York degli
anni ‘70 e ‘80, quella della rivoluzione pop, del
New Dada e di Andy Warhol, la città creativa e disinibita della liberazione sessuale,
dell’esplosione della performance e della body art, Mapplethorpe è unanimemente
considerato uno dei più importanti fotografi del XX secolo. è riuscito infatti a creare
opere nello stesso tempo classiche e attuali: testimone del proprio tempo e astratto
in una sorta di perfetta atemporalità, in un sincretismo senza precedenti nel mondo
della fotografia.
L’esposizione comprende 178 fotografie e rappresenta un’occasione unica per ripercorrere il lavoro di Mapplethorpe,

Foundation in New York, the exhibit of the great
photographer who captured expressions, poses,
flowers and anatomical details with the perfection
that only a true creative can aspire to. Lived in New
York during ‘70s and ‘80s, the New York of the pop
revolution, New Dada and Andy Warhol, the creative city, uninhibited from sexual liberation, where
were the performance explosion and the body art.
Mapplethorpe is widely considered one of the most
important photographers of the twentieth century.
He managed to create, in fact, works that are at the
same time, classic and current: a witness of his time
and abstract in a sort of timeless perfection, in an unprecedented syncretism in the world of photography.
The exhibit includes 178 photographs and represents a unique occasion to retrace Mapplethorpe’s
work, starting from the first Polaroids of the ‘70s up
to his famous still life, flowers, portraits, the bewildering sequences dedicated to Lisa Lyon, the beautiful images dedicated to the male body, investigated and celebrated as never before; up to the tribute
to his muse Patty Smith and the unusual, tender and
gloomy children portraits.

guerra, Steve McCurry è colui che
firma il celeberrimo scatto che ritrae la giovane afgana divenuta
icona attraverso le pagine del National Geographic. Una grande mostra allestita negli spazi espositivi
della Pelanda al MACRO Testaccio
di Roma che ripercorre, con una
selezione di oltre 200 fotografie,
il repertorio dell’artista. Curato-
re dell’evento è Fabio Novembre
che inserisce all’interno della mostra anche i lavori più recenti, dal
2009 al 2011, e tutta la storia della
ragazza afgana con scatti mai visti
e con il materiale raccolto in giro
per il mondo dallo stesso McCurry. E, infine, uno sguardo sull’Italia
nell’anno in cui festeggia il suo 150°
anniversario. Le foto sono scelte
per assonanza di soggetti e di emozioni, cercando i fili comuni e gli impensabili legami che accomunano
luoghi e persone ritratti in latitudini
diverse. L’allestimento è pensato
come un villaggio nomade con una

Member of Magnum agency since 1985, collaborator
of prestigious reviews and
author of war reportage, Steve McCurry is the author of
the famous shot that depicts the face of a young Afghan
become icon through the National Geographic pages. This
major exhibition in the Pelanda MACRO Testaccio in Rome
covers with a selection of 200 photos the artist’s repertoire.
Fabio Novembre is the curator of the exhibit; he adds also
the most recent works, from 2009 to 2011, and the whole
history of the young Afghan with shots unseen before and
materials collected around the world by McCurry himself.
Finally, a glance upon Italy in the year in which it celebrates
its 150th anniversary. Photos are sorted by similarity of subjects and emotions, looking for the common threads and
the unthinkable links that join places an person coming
from different latitudes. The exhibit setting is designed as a
nomad village with a series of structures that get into each
other to restore that sense of humanity that is breathed in
McCurry’s photos.

figlia d’arte in quanto il padre e suo
allenatore, Giorgio Cagnotto è stato
uno dei più forti tuffatori del mondo
negli anni ‘70, come sua madre, Carmen
Casteiner, anche lei tuffatrice.
Tania Cagnotto (Bolzano, 1985) is
an Italian diver. She is the first Italian
female diver to win a medal in a World
Championship. She is the daughter of
Giorgio Cagnotto, winner of four diving
Olympic medals between the 1970s and
1980s, and Carmen Casteiner, another
Italian diver.

er gli appassionati di acrobazie in aria prima
di entrare in acqua, ovvero di tuffi, quella
magica “erre moscia” di Tania Cagnotto è
già una vecchia conoscenza. Chi segue questo sport, segue le sue imprese da un decennio, quando
lei, non ancora maggiorenne, vinse due medaglie agli
Europei di Berlino nel 2002: una insieme a Maria Marconi dal trampolino sincronizzato di 3 metri e l’altra in
solitudine dalla piattaforma.
Nata nel 1985, Tania è figlia d’arte: il padre Giorgio è
stato uno dei migliori tuffatori del mondo degli anni
’70, in coppia con l’angelo biondo Klaus Dibiasi (vedi
box) e la madre Carmen Casteiner, anche lei tuffatrice. Il primo approccio con questo sport l’ha avuto a
sei anni, mentre le sue coetanee giocavano con i Mini
Pony. Anche se, come ha rivelato lei in un’intervista,
la primissima esperienza risale a quando aveva appena due anni: «Sono scivolata dentro il laghetto del centro
sportivo dell’Acquacetosa, a Roma.

or fans of stunts in the air before entering the water, to be more
precise, diving, that magical Tania Cagnotto “French R” is already
an old acquaintance. Those who follow this sport began follow
her performance ten years ago; when she, not yet of age, won
two medals at the European Championship in Berlin in 2002: one with Maria Marconi, from the 3m springboard, synchronized, and the other in the
Individual platform.
Born in 1985, Tania has followed her father’s footsteps: Giorgio Cagnotto
was one of the best divers in the world of the ‘70s, with the blond angel
Klaus Di Biasi (see box) and her mother Carmen Casteiner, diver as well.
She first met this sport when she was 6 years old while her friends were
playing with My Little Pony. Although, as she revealed in an interview, the
very first experience dates back when she was two years old: «I slipped
into le little lake in the Acquacetosa sports centre in Rome. Maybe, it
was a sign of destiny. No, I was not shocked, not at all. When I was six
years old, I had the first real dive in a pool; it seems to me the most
natural gesture in the world. Just like, I was born to do that. Nevertheless, my parents went hard at convince me to chose another sport, but I
just wanted to dive. I wanted to imitate what my mother and my father
had done; meanwhile I had a very good time. Well, diving meant to me

Se volete, un segno del destino. No, non sono
rimasta traumatizzata, anzi. Quando a sei
anni ho fatto il primo tuffo vero nell’acqua
di una piscina, mi è sembrato il gesto più naturale del mondo. Proprio come se fossi nata
per fare quello. Eppure i miei genitori ce l’avevano messa tutta per portarmi a scegliere
un altro sport, ma io mi volevo tuffare e basta. Volevo imitare quello che avevano fatto
loro, mio padre e mia madre, e al tempo stesso
mi divertivo come una matta. Ecco, tuffarmi
per me voleva dire giocare. E sognare. Sì,
perché fin da bambina sognavo tanto, sogna-
vo di andare alle Olimpiadi».
Quello dei Giochi sembra una vera e
propria bestia nera per l’atleta. Ha partecipato a tre edizioni (Sydney 2000,
Atene 2004 e Pechino 2008) e il suo
miglior piazzamento è stato un quinto posto nella piattaforma all’ultima
edizione, eppure Tania ha vinto tutto:
5 medaglie ai Mondiali (un argento e
quattro bronzi), 14 agli Europei (nove
ori, un argento e quattro bronzi). Dopo
tutti questi trionfi l’atleta non ha mai
perso la voglia di vincere e durante l’ul-

tima rassegna iridata a Shangai, è riuscita in un’impresa impossibile: conquistare il bronzo dal trampolino da un metro
risalendo la classifica dall’ultimo posto
e a due mesi esatti da un incidente in
motorino per il quale aveva dovuto sospendere la preparazione. In quella gara
ha preceduto l’amica di sempre, Maria
Marconi.
Nei tuffi sono tutti una grande famiglia:

playing. Moreover, dreaming. Yes, because
since childhood I dreamt of going to the
Olympics Game».
The Olympic Games seem to be the “bête
noire” for the athlete. Participating three
times (Sydney 2000, Athens 2004, Beijing
2008) the best placing was a fifth place in
the platform during the last edition. Nevertheless, Tania has already won everything: 5
medals in the World Championship (a silver
and four bronze), 14 medals at the European Championship (nine gold, a silver and
four bronze). After all these triumphs, the
athlete has never lost her willing to win and
during her last performance in Shangai, she

succeeded in an impossible task: she won
the bronze medal in the 1m springboard
competition rising back up the rankings
from the last place. In addition to this, two
months before she had to suspend her
preparation because of a motor accident.
In that competition, she preceded her best
friend, Maria Marconi.
In diving, they are all one big family. Tania
is friends with Maria (Nicola and Tommaso
sister) and with Francesca Dellapè, her partner in the synchronized. She was engaged
with Francesco Dell’Uomo, professional
diver.
Unlike other sports colleagues, Tania is not
stata fidanzata con Francesco Dell’Uomo, anche
lui tuffatore professionista.
Contrariamente ad altre colleghe sportive, a Tania non interessano le luci della ribalta. Ai programmi tv (ha rifiutato anni fa di partecipare al
talent show condotto da Milly Carlucci Ballando
con le stelle) preferisce le serate in discoteca o ballare la salsa, passione che ha in comune con il papà
Giorgio.
Tania si prepara alle Olimpiadi di Londra 2012
con un problema in più: a Bolzano l’atleta deve dividere la piscina con attempate signore che fanno
acquagym e bimbi che imprao a nuotare. A Londra gareggerà per il trampolino da tre metri (si è
qualificata anche l’altra azzurra Noemi Batki nella
piattaforma). La finale è il 5 agosto: speriamo che
questa sia la volta buona.

interested in the limelight. She prefers discos and salsa dance, a passion that shares with her father, rather
than going to TV programs (years ago she refused to
participate in the talent show hosted by Milly Carlucci

Tania is now getting ready for the Olympic Games in
London 2012 with another problem: in Bolzano she has
to share the pool with elderly ladies who practice water
aerobics and children who learn to swim. In London,
she will compete in the 3m springboard (Noemi Batki
is the other Italian qualified in the platform). The final
will be 5th August: we hope that this will be the time.

Nazionale da anni.

media attention with his
team partner Klaus Dibiasi
(he has followed, as well, his father’s footsteps and the sports centre
where Tania trains herself is dedicated to Klaus’s father, Carlo).
The two rival friends were the best divers of that time and they contended the podium of the World Championship, the European Championship and the Olympic Games. At the Olympics Games, the Austrian athlete won two silver in Tokyo 1964 and the gold one in the
platform in Mexico City 1968; he repeated the medal in Munich, 1972
and later in Montreal 1976. While Giorgio won two silver in 1972 and
1976 and two bronze in 1972 and 1980. Cagnotto got married with
Carmen Casteiner, Tyrolean specialist in the platform; she had a family tradition in diving as well. This is a common characteristics, in fact
Batki’s mother is the ex Hungarian diver Ibolya Nagy, while the Marconi brothers are all in the National team for years.

Così cantava Modugno in una delle
sue più celebri canzoni dell’epoca.
Simbolo di spensieratezza e di gioia,
Volare, il titolo originale della canzone, è un inno alla
vita che, soprattutto in un periodo storico caratterizzato dalla frenesia, sta man, mano perdendo il suo valore.
Scritta a due mani con Franco Migliacci, autore del testo, vinse nel 1958 il Festival di San Remo, si aggiudicò il
terzo posto all’Eurovision Song Contest e, sempre nello
stesso anno, conquistò due Grammy: uno come Canzone dell’anno, l’altro come Disco dell’anno. Un successo
mondiale che oltrepassò senza difficoltà i confini internazionali, basti pensare che negli Stati Uniti è rimasta
prima in classifica per tredici settimane, e che, ancora
oggi, rappresenta un simbolo della cultura tipicamente
italiana.
Lo stesso consiglio del cantante, quello di perdersi tra
le nuvole e volare sempre più in alto, è stato trattato
anche da diversi poeti, tra i più celebri annoveriamo
Calvino con il suo Lampo, breve racconto in cui il poeta, fermo ad un crocevia in mezzo alla folla, smette di
comprendere il senso delle cose: perché correre e andare di fretta? Chi ha dettato le regole per creare la morsa
della routine? è a questo punto che Calvino afferma di
non comprendere più le ragioni «delle cose, degli uomini,
tutto è senza senso e assurdo. E mi misi a ridere�. Ridere, è
questa la chiave per vivere meglio e più a lungo, è questo l’inno di vita che Modugno, a diciotto anni dalla sua

Modugno sang in one of his most famous songs. A
symbol of lightheartedness and joy, Volare, the original
title of the song, is a hymn to life, especially in a historical frenetic period,
is slowly losing its value. Written together with Franco Migliacci, author
of the text, in 1958 wins the Festival di San Remo, it comes in third place
in the Eurovision Song Contest and the same year, wins two Grammy’s:
one as Song of the year, the other as Record of the year. A world success
and crossed international borders without difficulties, just to think that in
the United States it was first on the charts for thirteen weeks, and that,
still today, it represents a symbol of
typically Italian culture.
The advice of the singer was to lose
yourself in the clouds and keep flying
higher and higher, it has also been
treated by various poets, indicating
among the most famous Calvino
with his Lampo, a brief story in
which the poet, stopped at a crossroad in the crowd, ceases to understand the sense of things: why
run and hurry? Who laid the rules
to create the grip of routine? It is
at this point that Calvino claims
to no longer understand the reasons «of things, of people, all is
absurd and without sense. And

onore dell’anniversario della morte del
cantautore Medimex, la Fiera delle Musiche del Mediterraneo curata da Puglia
Sounds, ha organizzato il 24 novembre
2011 un concerto in suo onore, dal titolo
Meraviglioso Modugno, a cui hanno preso
parte artisti del calibro di Vinicio Capossela, Simone Cristicchi, Cristina Donà,
Paola Turci, Daniele Silvestri, Mauro Ermanno Giovanardi, Roy Paci, Sud Sound
System, Peppe Voltarelli. Interessante il
luogo in cui si è svolto il concerto, per
l’occasione allestito proprio all’interno
del teatro Petruzzelli di Bari dove, molti
anni prima, Modugno celebrò il centenario dell’Unità d’Italia con la commedia
musicale Rinaldo in campo, scritta da Pietro Garinei e Sandro Giovannini. L’assessore al Mediterraneo, Cultura e Turismo
della Regione Puglia, Silvia Godelli, ha
dichiarato con orgoglio che Medimex è
«un omaggio speciale a Domenico Modugno,
grande artista del ‘900, interprete di tante sen-
sibilità musicali, capace di interagire con le tradizioni di un territorio�.
Domenico Modugno, un artista a 360 gradi
che durante il suo percorso ha dato prova di
sapersi cimentare in più ambiti, passando
dal teatro al cinema e dalla musica al piccolo schermo. Originario di Polignano a Mare
(Bari), la piccola realtà di Paese gli sta sin da
subito troppo stretta, per questo decide di
abbandonare il tetto familiare per Roma,
città che gli aprirà le porte del successo. Partecipa al concorso del Centro Sperimentale
di Cinematografia e vince la borsa di studio
come miglior allievo della sezione recitazione, grazie alla quale riesce a farsi notare
conquistando collaborazioni di rilievo con
registi del calibro di Eduardo De Filippo
e De Robertis. Dall’accademia cinematografica in poi collezionerà solo successi,
fino a raggiungere il culmine della popolarità a livello nazionale e internazionale nel 1958, quando partecipa al festival di San Remo come primo cantautore nella storia della rassegna musicale, portando il brano Nel blu dipinto di blu.

honor of the anniversary of the death of the
Medimex songwriter, the Fiera delle Musiche del Mediterraneo by Puglia Sounds, on
November 24th organized a concert in his
honor, entitled Meraviglioso Modugno, in
which took part artists of caliber such as Vinicio Capossela, Simone Cristicchi, Cristina
Donà, Paola Turci, Daniele Silvestri, Mauro
Ermanno Giovanardi, Roy Paci, Sud Sound
System, Peppe Voltarelli. Interestingly,

Domenico Modugno is a well rounded artist, during his career he has proven to have
challenged himself in many areas, going
from theater to cinema and from music to
television. He was from Polignano a Mare
(Bari), the small reality of the town immediately seemed tight, for this reason he decided to leave the family home and move
to Rome, the city that opens the doors to
success. He participates in a contest at
Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia
and wins a scholarship as the best student
in the acting section, thanks to this he was
noticed and gained significant collaboration with directors such as Eduardo De
Filippo and De Robertis. From the Cinema
Academy and from then on he collects only
successes, reaching its peak of popularity
nationally and internationally in 1958, when
he participates in the Festival di San Remo
as the first songwriter in history of the music
festival, bringing the song Nel blu dipinto
di blu.
And what better song to remember an author by that, still today, hasn’t stopped to
delight us with its notes.

no dice Bahamas e la prima immagine che gli si affaccia
alla mente è una spiaggia bianchissima, il verde delle palme che svettano sull’intrico della giungla e un mare che
da color del latte prende via via più confidenza e passa,
toccando ogni gradazione, dal turchese al cobalto. Così, desta un po’
di stupore che il primo europeo a metterci piede ne abbia sottolineato
solo una caratteristica legata alla navigazione: “isole dalle acque basse”
le definì. Certo, lui di nome faceva Cristoforo Colombo e di mestiere
era marinaio, ma ci si chiede come questo piccolo lembo di paradiso
non abbia fatto breccia anche nello spirito pratico del più intransigente fra i genovesi.
W
hen one says Bahamas, the first image that
comes in mind is a beautiful beach with
white sand, with the green of the palm
trees that stand over the jungle and a milky
sea that gets more and more acquainted and takes all the
colours gradation, from blue-green to cobalt blue. It is surprising that the first European man that set foot on it has
emphasized only a characteristic related to the navigation:
he called them “island with shallow waters”. For sure, he
was Christopher Columbus and he was a professional sailor, but one wonders how this little piece of paradise could
not make an opening in his pragmatic spirit, one of the
most intransigent among the Genoese people.
However, the name of these islands remains, because Bahamas is nothing else but the distortion of the Spanish
word baja mar which means shallow sea, a feature that will
have important consequences for this archipelago. More
than a bunch of islands, in fact, Bahamas are an authentic archipelago. In a small area, there are more than 700
islands: like a pearl necklace that goes from the North Atlantic Ocean to almost the Florida coast. It is difficult to
sail there. The archipelago is made up by a platform with a
group of emerged reliefs with ocean floors that reach a few
dozens of meters, separated by deep ocean trenches. The
result is a dense network of channels among the islands

Il nome a queste isole tuttavia gli è rimasto, perché Bahamas non è
altro che la corruzione del termine spagnolo baja mar che significa
appunto mare poco profondo, una caratteristica che avrà conseguenze
importanti per la storia dell’arcipelago. Più che un gruppetto di isole,
infatti, le Bahamas sono un vero e proprio arcipelago che, in un’area
tutto sommato ridotta, annoverano oltre 700 isole: una sorta di collana di perline che dall’Atlantico settentrionale si stende fino quasi
a lambire le coste della Florida. È difficile navigare da queste parti.
L’arcipelago è costituito da una piattaforma con un insieme di rilievi
affioranti ricchi di fondali che arrivano anche a poche decine di metri, separati da fosse oceaniche molto profonde. Il risultato è un fitto
reticolo di canali fra isola e isola, dove è facile arenarsi. È però anche
una via obbligata: le navi che provengono dal continente americano
devono passare per forza di qua. Le Bahamas diventano allora il luogo
ideale per tendere agguati e imboscate, un po’ come le gole montane,
solo che qui i briganti hanno un altro nome: si chiamano pirati. Così,
immaginate di essere sulla tolda di un galeone spagnolo. Alla partenza
è stato fatto tutto il possibile: la sola strategia praticabile contro un branco di lupi è il convoglio, non restare isolati, navigare in gruppo. Ma manovrare in questo
tratto di mare senza la forza propulsiva dei motori non
è facile, si perde contatto per un nonnulla, la notte è
buia e il vento incostante. E all’alba ti accorgi di essere
solo. Comincia a far caldo e i vestiti sotto l’armatura cominciano a inzupparsi di sudore, il moschetto è pesante,
ma per fortuna tutto è calmo, non si vede anima viva:
la chiglia fende acque turchesi, a dritta una striscia di
sabbia candida. Forse l’hai scampata. E mentre lo pensi
un rumore assordante squarcia l’aria e fa esplodere in
una miriade di schegge il timone: da dietro una scogliera
si materializza sinistro uno strumento di morte galleggiante che sventola insegne nere. In coperta, immenso e
feroce come un demone dell’inferno, c’è Edward Teach,
detto Barbanera: ha dato fuoco alla treccia di canapa

Piatto forte delle Bahamas è, inutile dirlo, il pesce. Frutti di mare,
aragoste e granchi, soprattutto. Una vera specialità da queste
parti è il conch o strombo, un mollusco marino che i bahamiani
preparano in molti modi diversi: crudo – con succo di lime e
spezie – fritto, in una zuppa piccante, cotto al vapore. Anche il
pesce fresco è molto rappresentato. Una tipica preparazione
è il pesce bollito con grits (una sorta di semolino) oppure in
umido, con sedano, cipolle, pomodori e varie spezie. Quasi ogni
pietanza viene accompagnata da piselli tropicali

e particolarmente gustose sono anche le zuppe
di carne, prevalentemente maiale e pollo, come il

anzania is stood like a big leaf under the Horn of Africa, exactly
where the continent narrows in its very ancient and mysterious appendix and becomes Sub-Saharan Africa, also known as Black Africa, in which the huge arid spaces and lands, in mountain range,
become rich of humid rainforests. The huge continental outline slopes
down towards West, Atlantic Ocean and on the East side towards the warm
Indian Ocean. From where Africa has the hearth in the forest, to the point
in which the land plunges into the sea, there is Tanzania, protected by the
Kilimanjaro Mount and by the big African lakes: Lake Victoria, the largest of
Africa, Lake Tanganyika, the deepest one and Lake Natron, the most saline.
In the future, there will also be another huge lake – sea, coming from the
continental drift. It will fill the Rift Valley, the great scar, still dry and arid,
where the men have taken the first steps. As if the earth reacts to this depression, on the contrary in the northern and southern boundaries stand
out mountains whose slopes are the national parks of Serengeti and the
Ngorongoro and Kilimanjaro.
Tanzania natural wealth has no equal in the whole African continent, because it combines the unique places and tourist accessibility. The Serengeti
National Park (in Masai language means endless plain) is one of the four
parks and is part of the Northern Safari Circuit. If in the last century the
safari consisted of large bloody hunting, today the nature of the experience
is radically changed and visitors have the incredible opportunity to get in
contact view and photograph animals that generally we can only see trough
satellite channels. The other huge and striking park is the Mount Kilimanjaro, known not only by naturalists and wildlife fan, but also by literature
lovers , as it is the frame of one of the most successful and popular stories
of Ernest Hemingway.

a Tanzania se ne sta poggiata come una grande foglia
sotto il Corno d’Africa, proprio dove il continente si
stringe nella sua appendice più antica e misteriosa e
diventa Africa sub-sahariana, o Africa Nera, dove gli
immensi spazi aridi e piani, corrugati in catene montuose, si
ricoprono di umide foreste pluviali. L’immenso profilo continentale declina lentamente a ovest, sull’Atlantico, e a est, verso
il caldo Oceano Indiano. Da dove l’Africa ha il suo cuore di
foresta fino al punto in cui la terra si immerge nel mare, c’è la
Tanzania, protetta dal Kilimangiaro e dai grandi laghi africani:
il Lago Vittoria, il più grande del continente, il Tanganica, che è
invece è il più profondo e il Lago Natron, il più salino. In futuro
ci sarà un altro grande lago-mare che nascerà dalla deriva dei
continenti. Esso riempirà la Rift Valley, la grande cicatrice, oggi
ancora secca e arida, in cui gli uomini hanno mosso i primi pas-

si. Come se la terra reagisse a questa depressione, per contrasto
ai confini del nord e del sud svettano monti alle cui falde stanno
i parchi nazionali del Serengheti e del Ngorongoro e quello del
Kilimangiaro.
La ricchezza naturalistica della Tanzania non ha pari in tutto il
continente africano, perché unisce luoghi unici e accessibilità
turistica. Il Parco Nazionale del Serengeti (che in lingua Masai vuol dire pianura sconfinata) è uno dei quattro parchi che fa
parte del Northern Safari Circuit. Se nel secolo scorso il safari
consisteva in cruente battute di caccia grossa, oggi la natura
dell’esperienza è radicalmente cambiata e ai visitatori viene
data l’incredibile opportunità di entrare in contattato visivo e
fotografare animali che abitualmente possiamo vedere solo su
qualche canale satellitare. L’altro grande e suggestivo parco è
quello del Kilimangiaro, noto non solo ai naturalisti e ai fan del-

La Tanzania rimane una meta assolutamente peculiare perché permette di coniugare una vacanza di esplorazione naturalistica ad una di interesse culturale:
crocevia di numerosi influssi e colonizzazioni, convivono in Tanzania diverse
etnie; accanto a quelle autoctone Masai
e Swahili, la cultura persiana e araba hanno lasciato numerose tracce, ad esempio
nella variegata e interessante musica tradizionale. Il taarab è il genere originario
di Zanzibar, etnico e contaminato, ma
così vitale e duttile da essere confluito
nel moderno Hip Hop. Ma questo è solo
un esempio di come la Tanzania sia capace di mescolare culture e sensazioni, in

UN SAFARI CON ERNEST HEMINGWAY
Lo scrittore americano Ernest
Hemingway fu probabilmente
il primo a introdurre la parola
swahili safari nella lingua inglese. La sua sete di avventura e lo
sprezzo del pericolo lo hanno
condotto in Africa orientale per
ben due volte e gli hanno fornito grande ispirazione per i suoi
numerosi racconti e romanzi.
Hemingway visitò la Tanzania
per la prima volta nel 1933 ed
è in questo periodo che scrisse
una delle sue short novels più
rappresentative: La breve vita
felice di Francis Macomber, la
prima della raccolta I quarantanove racconti. Il protagonista, Francis, è un ricco uomo d’affari invischiato
in un matrimonio infelice con una moglie bellissima ma avida. In vacanza safari accompagnata dall’esperto cacciatore Wilson, la coppia entra definitivamente in crisi. La moglie si fa beffe della codardia dimostrata da Francis
durante una battuta di caccia e, non paga, lo tradisce con Wilson. Ma proprio durante una nuova caccia, Francis riconquista la sua vitalità grazie a un
gesto eroico e mostra, prima di tutto a se stesso, di non essere un vigliacco.
Vi è così un ribaltamento di ruoli con la compagna: ora è lei a temere di
essere abbandonata dal nuovo Francis, sicuro di sé e sprezzante verso la
donna che lo ha amato solo per convenienza. Ed è ancora la caccia nella
Savana ai piedi del Kilimangiaro la cornice per l’ultima svolta del dramma.
Francis è rimasto ferito durante una carica di bufali e la moglie ne approfitta
per ucciderlo con una fucilata. Si chiude così la seconda, breve vita di Francis Macomber, con un riluttante e disgustato Wilson che comunque aiuta la
donna a occultare il delitto.

The American writer Ernest Hemingway was probably the first to introduce the Swahili word safari in
the English language. His lust for adventure and
his defiance of danger led him to Eastern Africa
twice and gave him great inspiration for many of its
short stories and novels. Hemingway visited Tanzania for the first time in 1933 and during this period, he wrote one of his most representative short
novels: The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber, the first of the collection The forty-nine short
stories. The main character, Francis, is a wealthy
businessman stuck with an unhappy marriage with
a beautiful but greedy wife. On holiday, accompanied by the expert safari hunter Wilson, finally the
couple falls into a crisis. The wife mocked Francis
because he showed cowardice during a hunting

the island of spices and in Africa – most of
all in Tanzania – every place hides different sides. Thus, we discover that Savannah
gives way to vigorous, humid and scented

i preparano nel periodo di San Giuseppe
tanto da rappresentare
il dolce tipico della festa del papà che si celebra proprio a marzo. Sono le zeppole,
dolci tipici della tradizione
napoletana che ormai contano
decine di varianti locali, sinuose geometrie e svariate modalità di cottura. Ma la zeppola classica è lì buona, bella e
inconfondibile: fritta con sopra crema pasticcera, zucchero a velo e amarena. Per questi dolcetti tradizione e
leggenda, storie e misteri si mescolano diventando un
tutt’uno, come il loro impasto del resto. È complicato,
ma proviamo a fare chiarezza. A Roma la storia delle
frittelle si fa risalire alla vita di San Giuseppe: si dice
che dopo la fuga dall’Egitto, per poter mantenere la famiglia fu costretto a vendere frittelle, da lì l’appellativo
di frittellaro. Secondo altri si tratta di un dolce nato nelle

hey are prepared around the period of St Joseph
Day and they represent the typical pastry of the
Fathers Day that is celebrated every March. Zeppole are the typical pastries of Naples’s tradition
but nowadays there are dozens of local versions, sinuous
shapes and different cooking methods. However, the classic Zeppola is there, tasty, good and unique: fried with
some cream on top, powdered sugar and black cherry. For
these pastries tradition and legend, stories and mysteries
are mixed like the dough, after all. It is complicated but we
will try to make things clear. In Rome the history of pancakes can be traced back to Saint Joseph’s life: it is said
that after the exodus from Egypt, in order to maintain the
family, he was compelled to sell pancakes, and from there
the appellative frittellaro (pancakes seller). According to
others, this kind of dessert was created in some convent’s
kitchens. But so many cities contend with themselves for
the paternity of the pastries. What is sure is that the first
recipe proved on paper appears in 1837 by the celebrated
chef and gastronomist Ippolito Cavalcanti, Duke of Buonvi-
cucine di qualche convento. Ma diverse città si contendono la paternità della

prima ricetta su carta apparve nel 1837 a

prima di santi e familiari, la fine dell’inverno. Infatti con la primavera alle porte,
già in epoca romana, si celebravano riti di
purificazione agraria con frittelle e falò.
Realizzare buone zeppole non è poi
così complicato: si deve versare l’acqua
in una pentola e aggiungere sale e burro portando lentamente a ebollizione.
Raggiunto il bollore togliere la pentola dal fuoco e versare la farina setacciata, mescolando bene per amalgamare tutti gli ingredienti. Rimettere sul fuoco a fiamma
bassa girando bene il composto per pochi istanti, quindi togliere dal fuoco e unire lo
zucchero amalgamando bene. Riporre il composto in una ciotola e lasciar riposare.
Quando il composto diventa tiepido aggiungere la scorza di un limone e le uova una
per volta, mescolando con uno sbattitore elettrico. Quindi porre il composto in una
tasca da pasticcere con bocchetta a stella e realizzare dei dischetti di pasta sopra a
quadratini di carta forno precedentemente tagliati. Friggere le zeppole in abbondante olio per qualche minuto facendole dorare. Sgocciolare e riporre su un foglio di
carta assorbente. Disporre su un piatto e guarnire ogni dolcetto con un ciuffetto di
crema pasticcera, preparata in precedenza, zucchero a velo e un’amarena. E per chi
vuole concedersi il dolce risparmiando qualche caloria esiste la variante di zeppole
cotte in forno.

spring around the corner, in Roman times they celebrate with pancakes and bonfires rites
of agricultural purification.
Making good zeppole is not that complicated: you must pour the water in
a saucepan, add salt and butter and bring it to boil. When it boils,
remove the pot from the cooker and add the flour stirring very
well to mix all the ingredients. Put again on the cooker and add the sugar, mixing the pastry. Put the
mix in a bowl and let it stand. When the mix
becomes mid warm add the lemon peel
and the eggs once at a time, stirring with
an electric mixer. Put the mix in a piping
bag with the star nozzle and make discs of
dough on little squares of baking paper previously cut. Fry the zeppole in lot of oil for some
minutes to brown them. Drain and put them on a
blotting paper. Put them on a plate and decorate every
pastry with a bunch of sweet cream, previously prepared,
powdered sugar and a black cherry. And for those who want to
enjoy the zeppole saving some calories there is the variant cooked
in the oven.

titled En Vivo!. Produced by the record company EMI Music, the album

recorded April 10th, 2011 during the concert at National Stadium in Chile
where were 50.000 fans were screaming and testifying the heavy metal

its genre for future bands. Among their successes The

Meninblack (1981) based on a particular science fiction
vision of the band. Their fan will be happy that, after 35
years of honoured career, the rock British band does not
want to be retired!

techno. It is the first project from the last
thirty years in which the two founders
work together; in fact, while Gore is still
part of the Depeche Mode, Clarke left the
band in 1982 at the first light of their first
album Speak & Spell. The musicians have
created the new CD in the distance, each
working in his own studio, developing and
exchanging tracks by emails. Furthermore,
the music pieces are instrumental, without
the addition of voices.

A SHORT GUIDE TO HELP YOU
Per proteggervi contro la nuova minaccia derivante dagli esplosivi liquidi, l’Unione Europea ha adottato nuove
regole di sicurezza che limitano le quantità di liquidi che
possono essere introdotti nelle aree sterili. Tali regole
si applicano nei confronti tutti i passeggeri in partenza
dagli aeroporti dell’Unione Europea verso qualsiasi destinazione.
Ciò significa che ai controlli di sicurezza, il passeggero e il
relativo bagaglio a mano devono essere controllati per verificare la presenza di liquidi.
Comunque, le nuove regole non limitano la quantità di liquidi che possono essere
acquistati presso gli esercizi commerciali situati oltre il punto di controllo del titolo di
viaggio od a bordo di un aeromobile di compagnia appartenente all’Unione Europea.
Le nuove regole si applicano a partire da lunedì 6 novembre 2006, in tutti gli aeroporti
dell’Unione Europea, in Norvegia, Islanda e Svizzera a meno di eventuali modifiche.

introduced new security rules to limit the amount of liquids that you can take through
security checkpoints. They apply to all passengers departing from EU airports to all
destinations.
This means that, at security checkpoints, you and your hand luggage must be inspected for liquids screening in addition to other prohibited articles. However, the new rules
do not limit the liquids that you can buy at shops located beyond the checkpoints.
The new rules are in force as to Monday 6th November 2006 at all airports in the EU
and in Norway, Iceland, Switzerland until further notice.

Jet Lag
Il vostro “orologio biologico” può a volte non gradire i cambi di fuso legati al viaggio aereo: senso di affaticamento,

tra i sintomi più comuni. Per minimizzare l’impatto di tale fenomeno, si consiglia di dormire bene la notte prima del volo
e di mantenere le proprie “lancette biologiche” sull’orario di

Sometimes you “biological clock” may not welcome the time changes involved
in air travel and it finds ways of letting you know about this. Some of the most

sleep before leaving and, if you plan to stay abroad less than two days, keep you
biological clock set on your home time (i.e. keep your regular eating and sleeping
habits). In the event of a longer trip, it is advisable to get used to local time as
soon as possible and to conduct a regular and healthy life. Remember that getting over jet lag is generally quicker when travelling westwards than eastwards.

To help you feel better when you fly with us, just follow these tips and suggestions
designed to enhance your well being on board
Stare a lungo seduti in una stessa posizione può farvi sentire a disagio sull’aereo. Sgranchitevi gambe e
braccia ogni due ore circa. Alzatevi di tanto in tanto
e camminate su e giù per il corridoio oppure fate i
semplici esercizi* di stretching illustrati per prevenire
problemi circolatori.
Prolonged sitting in a fixed position can make you feel
uncomfortable in the plane. Every few hours, stretch
your arms and legs or carry out some easy exercises*
suggested below.
Consumate pasti leggeri, mangiate con moderazione
e limitare bevande gassate, tè e caffè.
Eat a light meal and moderate you intake of fizzy
drinks, tea and coffee.
Moderate il consumo di bevande alcoliche, poiché
queste sono assorbite più facilmente dal corpo ad alta
quota a causa della bassa pressione dell’aria all’interno della cabina.
Moderate your intake of alcohol.
In caso di permanenza prolungata a bordo è consigliato sostituire le lenti a contatto con degli occhiali
per evitare irritazioni oculari. Togliete sempre le lenti
a contatto prima di dormire.
In case of a long flight it is recommended to wear eyeglasses rather than contact lenses. Remove contact
lenses before sleeping.
*Vi suggeriamo di sospendere immediatamente questi esercizi se
causano dolore o disagio.
Bevete molta acqua naturale, meglio se in piccole
quantità e spesso.
Drink plenty of water to keep you hydrated.
*We suggest you stop doing these exercise immediately should you
feel pain or discomfort.

Start the exercise by sitting in comfortably in your
seat in an upright position.
Poggiate entrambi i piedi sul pavimento. Flettete i
piedi puntando i talloni in su e poi in giù. Ripetete per
cinque volte.
Rest both feet on the floor. Flex both feet with toes
pointing upward, then point your toes downward
Perform this exercise five times.

Sollevate dolcemente il ginocchio verso il busto per
alcuni secondi, poi lasciatelo andare, poggiando
nuovamente il piede sul pavimento. Fate lo stesso
con l’altra gamba. Ripetete cinque volte per gamba.
Raise you knee gently towards the chest for a few
seconds and then release, placing your feet back on
the floor. Continue with the other leg. Repeat five
times for each leg.
Mettete le mani sotto una coscia e sollevatele dolcemente verso il busto. Ruotate la caviglia in modo
circolare per 5 secondi. Ripetete con l’altra gamba.
Ripetete questo esercizio cinque volte per gamba.
Place your hands under one thigh, and gently lift toward your chest. Rotate your ankle in a circular motion for 5 seconds. Repeat with the other leg. Perform
this exercise five times with both legs.
