SCIENTIFIC ACTIVTY The scientific activity concerns the area of Inorganic Chemistry, with reference to the design, synthesis and reactivity of precursor compounds and functional molecular systems, to the realization of inorganic nanosystems from molecular synthesis, to the study of composition structure-properties correlations. Some representative results are: Lidia Armelao 3 - Design and synthesis (soft chemistry) of original lantanide antenna complexes (Eu, Tb, ...) that, chemically grafted via sol-gel to mechanically stable and optically transparent silica substrates, have been successfully used to produce highly luminescent and photostable glassy films with tunable colour emission including white light; - Design and synthesis of molecular and supramolecular systems based on transition metal elements and polytopic ligands able to generate constitutional dynamic libraries; - Design and synthesis (soft chemistry) of innovative oxide and metal-based nanosystems (as surfaces, films and clusters), particularly effective for the immobilization of (bio)molecules with high specificity and precise sequences, hence suitable in processes for molecular recognition such as DNA microarray; - Design and synthesis (soft chemistry) of composite materials based on metal, oxide and chalcogenide clusters suitably dispersed in/on oxide matrices. The chemical reactivity of such nanosystems, fundamental in (photo)catalysis and in molecular activation processes, is finely tunable by varying the cluster dimension, shape and distribution, or through suitable cluster/matrices chemical combinations; - Investigation of the electronic structure of excited states in highly luminescent inorganic systems through X-ray Excited Optical Luminescence (XEOL), in the energy and time domain. The scientific activity is documented by more that 170 papers on highly qualified and widespread international ISI journals (H-index = 33, Web of Science, 2015 JCR Science Edition), 3 book chapters with ISBN, more than 20 Activity Reports and Papers on Conference Proceedings with ISSN, and more than 150 communications at national and international conferences.
