Andrea Oliva
“Andrea Oliva is one of the best flutists of his generation, a shining star in the world of
flute.” (Sir James Galway).
He is principal flutist at the Orchestra of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in
Rome and recently became principal professor of Flute at the Italian-speaking Switzerland Conservatory in Lugano.
He graduated in Modena and did further studies with Claudio Montafia, Glauco
Cambursano, Jean-Claude Gérard and Sir James Galway, immediately beginning a
brilliant career.
He is first prize winner at the 'Kobe International Competition' in 2005 and won the
third prize at the 'ARD international competition' in Munich in 2004.
He has been a member of the GMJO and attended the Herbert von Karajan Academy
in Berlin.
At the young age of 23, he was invited to play as a Guest Principal Flutist at the Berliner
Philharmoniker under the direction of prestigious conductors.
He collaborated as a teacher and orchestral player with Mozart Orchestra in Bologna
under Claudio Abbado.
He collaborates as principal flute with the Bayerische Rundfunk in Munich, the Bamberger Symphoniker, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and the Chamber Orchestra of
Europe.
As a soloist he performed with Santa Cecilia Orchestra directed by C. Hogwood, M. W.
Chung, A. Pappano and M. Honeck; as Principal flutist under conductor like C. Abbado,
L. Maazel, V. Gergiev, J. Temirkanov, R. Haitink, S. Rattle, D. Gatti, F. Luisi, M. Jansons, S.
Ozawa, G. Dudamel and many others.
He formed the GlobeDuo with guitarist Costanza Savarese and the "Quintetto di Fiati
Italiano" wind quintett: with these ensembles he performs in important international
musical seasons with an original repertoire.
He recorded many CDs for "VDM", “Le Chant de Linos”, "Wide Classique", “Hyperion”
(Bach Sonatas with Angela Hewitt), "Brillant" and "Sony" (F. Ghedini 'Sonata da Concerto' Soloist with Orchestra Toscana, D. Rustioni cond.)
Oliva plays a 14k all gold SR Muramatsu Flute.
Maurizio Valentini
graduated from the Conservatoire ‘’G.Verdi’’ in Milan where he studied with Glauco Cambursano, with whom he continued to study after graduation. He has done courses and master
classes with some of the most important flautists and teachers worldwide: Alain Marion,
Maxence Larrieu, Raymond Guiot, Aurèle Nicolet and many others.
He began to collaborate with the Teatro Alla Scala Orchestra in 1980, playing with conductors
like C. Abbado, R. Muti, L. Maazel, G. Gavazzeni, E. Inbal. Before graduating from the Conservatorie he played as a soloist at the Teatro Alla Scala for the premiere of ‘’La Vera Storia’’ by
Luciano Berio, based on texts by Italo Calvino. Since the 1990s he has devoted himself to
teaching, collaborating closely with Glauco Cambursano for twenty years in the organization
of courses and master classes. Valentini is now the coordinator of studies for the three year
advanced flute course at the International Flute Academy ‘’Incontri col maestro’’ in Imola (part
of the Imola International Piano Academy). He also coordinates and teaches at the International Music Academy in Novara. Valentini taught for ten years at the Accademia Ducale (Palazzo
Ducale) in Genova where he held many courses, seminars and master classes. He also taught
at the ‘’Istituto di Alta Formazione Musicale G. Puccini’’ in Gallarate (VA). He now teaches at
the Conservatoire ‘’Ghedini’’ in Cuneo.
Valentini was a member of the board of directors of the International Piano Academy ‘’Incontri
col maestro’’ in Imola, where he also became an advisor to the management and a member of
the executive board. As a representative of this board, he was appointed Vice President of the
Music Schools of Exellence (Imola, Fiesole and Cremona).

Graduated with top scores cum laude under the guidance of Lucia Passaglia at Conservatorio
“L.Cherubini” in Florence, she particularly focused her studies on chamber music at Scuola di
musica di Fiesole, Accademia Filarmonica della Scala, and with maestros Franco Rossi and
Piernarciso Masi at Accademia di Alto Perfezionamento di Imola. Winner of numerous national
and international contests ( “Cilea” di Palmi, “Viozzi” di Trieste,”Gesualdo da Venosa”di Potenza)
she regularly collaborates with Musical Istitute “Orazio Vecchi” of Modena and Accademia di
alto perfezionamento del flauto of Imola. Her concert career led her to perform for some of
the most important italian and european musical institutions : Wiener Konzerthaus of Vienna,
Istituto italiano di cultura di Strasburgo, Amici della musica e Accademia Filarmonica di
Bologna, Festival Valentiniano di Orvieto, Teatro “Bibiena” di Mantova, Orchestra della Toscana, CIDIM, Teatro Alighieri di Ravenna, Teatro “Guglielmi” di Massa.
In May of 2008 she performed in the U.S. in duo with flutist Andrea Oliva during the 31st
Flute Festival of Denton (TX) and in the city of Orlando (FL). Additionally, she’s regular guest
of “Festival internazionale S.Gazzelloni” for which she collaborated with some of the most
internationally renown flutists such as M.Larrieu, B.Fromanger, J.Balint, A.Oliva, D.Formisano
and Michele Marasco with whom recently recorded a live CD focused on flute and piano
works from the 900s published with the magazine “Falaut” in january 2009 number.

The Flute Ensemble will be the
opening act to the concert of
teachers Andrea Oliva and
Marta Cencini. The concert will
take place at the Abbey of San
Galgano on 26th June at 9:15
pm.
Participants in the masterclasses are
divided into two categories: Active
and Observer. There is no limit for
observing participants. Applications
for active participants (10 students
max) will be accepted in order of
application (date of the bank transfer).

Active Participants’ fee is
250 EUR. It includes the
enrolment fee and should
be paid via bank transfer.

Listeners’ fee is 50 EUR
and will be paid before
the class.

The organisers reserve
the right to cancel the
Masterclass, should the
minimum number of
students (8) not be
reached. In such instance,
the paid fee will be reimbursed in full.

Chiusdino lies among the metalliferous hills, the Montagnola Senese and the Val di
Farma (27km south - west of Siena) and is marked by rivers, plains and hills. It is a
characteristic Tuscan village which still retains much of its medieval urban fabric,
Chiusdino rises over a bristling relief of metalliferous hills.
