St Hilarion - A new standard in Aged Care
The Society of Saint Hilarion was founded as a cultural and religious body in 1955, with our
origins owing to the passion of a group of migrants who settled in South Australia after migrating
from the town of Caulonia in southern Italy.
Society President Rosemary Velardo, commented, “We take great pride in being a community
based organisation, with an emphasis on family and Christian values which are underpinned by
ensuring that our residents experience quality, compassionate care in a loving environment. In
cooperation with the Scalabrini Fathers, based at Mater Christi Parish, and the Franciscan
Sisters of St Anthony, our residents have the opportunity, should they wish, to participate in an
enriching pastoral care program which helps to define the essence of the St Hilarion community.”
Today St Hilarion is the owner and operator of two beautiful facilities – a gorgeous villa style
development at Fulham, and the stunning new House of St Hilarion at Seaton which was
completed in June 2010. Both locations are home to residents from diverse regional
backgrounds within Italy, especially Calabria, Campania, Veneto, Puglia and Sicily, in addition to
others with more traditional Australian backgrounds and also other European origins, such as
Polish, German, Croatian and Greek.

Our contemporary low care facility at Fulham provides for individual occupancy of our 56 villas,
each equipped with their own bedroom, lounge area, kitchenette and en-suite, individually
controlled air conditioning and complemented by a private courtyard area. Residents also have
access to large dining and entertainment areas, while a chapel is also located adjacent to the main
community centre area.Villa Saint Hilarion is adorned with colourful gardens and shrubs to create
a homely feel, which is strengthened by the facility’s position in a quiet tree-lined area of Fulham.
The House of St Hilarion, Seaton
The House of St Hilarion is a stunning new development and is currently home to 109 residents
in both low and high care. It was designed with the needs and expectations of our residents and
their families in mind, while also incorporating facilities to encourage participation from the
broader community. Key features include:

between residents, families and the broader community;

FROM THE PRESIDENT
A Time for Thanks, Reflection and Action
2011 has already been a huge year on a global scale. In such a short
space of time we have had, to name a few episodes, the Queensland
floods, the Christchurch earthquakes, the nuclear disaster in Fukashima,
the UK riots and now the terrible tragedy that is unfolding in eastern
Africa.
Events such as these should be the catalyst for us to appreciate the gifts
we have been given and to reflect on how we can make a positive
difference to the communities we live in. These communities can have
many forms – starting with our own families and extending to our local
residential community, incorporating our neighbours, local shops,
schools, our parish church and increasingly, our ageing community.
In an increasingly more interactive world, let us also not forget the global community in which we
live. Even here we have the capacity to make a powerful and lasting difference to the lives of
others, with the famine in east Africa being a current case in hand where hundreds of thousands
of people are crying out for the most basic of help from their global neighbours.
So where do we start and how can we make a difference? This is a complex issue, as we all live
in different situations, have different priorities and varying philosophies on life. One thing that we
can’t escape, however, is that we are all fortunate to live in a society where (i) we can afford and
(ii) we have the democratic freedom, to debate current issues such as the carbon tax, the
Adelaide Oval redevelopment and a new Royal Adelaide Hospital.
In reading this, I would like to encourage you to think about your life, to give thanks for the gifts
that God has given you, and to consider how you might make a difference in your community in
the year ahead. This is the theme for this year’s Feast of St Hilarion – Thanks, Reflection and
Action, and I encourage you to embrace this positive message.
From our perspective at St Hilarion, we are fortunate to once again have benefited from the great
efforts of our wonderful volunteers who have given of their time selflessly to enable the staging of
our 57th consecutive Feast of St Hilarion – a remarkable achievement! I would also like to thank
Fathers Emilio, Antonio and Michele for their contribution to our community, not only during the
Feast, but throughout the year through our pastoral care program.
In reading this, please consider that we have ongoing volunteer opportunities where you can
take action and make a positive difference within our community – it might be helping us to
maintain our beautiful gardens at Seaton and Fulham, or helping with our resident activities
programs. We also have a major need for continued fundraising to facilitate the building of an
additional 34 beds at The House of St Hilarion at Seaton, so please think about making a
donation, joining one of our fundraising committees or if you have a business, sponsoring a
major St Hilarion event.
abbiamo avuto inondazioni in Queensland, terremoti a Christchurch e gravi incidenti nucleari a
Eventi come questi dovrebbero farci riflettere
complesso, poich` tutti noi viviamo in situazioni diverse, abbiamo priorita` diverse e filosofie
Queste attivita` portrebbero
consistere in aiuto a curare e mantenere i nostril splendidi giardini a Seaton o a Fulham. O
riflettere e a fare azione.
Rosemary Velardo - President, The Society of St Hilarion Inc
Evviva Ilarione e buona festa.
We all have the capacity to make a difference, and my purpose, and our theme this year, is to
invite you to be thankful, to reflect and to take action.
