L’amo Travel offre prevalentemente escursioni in
trekking o camminata lenta; diamo la possibilità di
innamorarsi e di godere del mare cristallino, ingrediente base di questa incantevole terra, senza tralasciare quello che è lo spettacolo e il fascino della
montagna; anzi, puntiamo a valorizzarlo quanto più
possibile, a renderlo “balcone naturale” per godere
degli scenari classici ma da un punto di vista diverso, nuovo, uscendo così dai circuiti di massa a cui il
turista è abituato.
Le nostre escursioni vogliono immergersi in tutto ciò
che circonda il territorio e la cultura del trapanese. I nostri cammini saranno intervallati
dalle giuste pause, per osservare, conoscere,
fare amicizia, rilassarsi o meditare. Per fare
ciò ci avvaliamo della competenza, dell’affidabilità ma soprattutto della passione di guide
esperte e riconosciute.

“L’ Amo-re” (pun using the italian words “amo” which
means hook and “amore” which means
love) was always the foundation of every
choice in my life. “L’ Amo-re” made me
leave Rome and moving to Favignana.
I first came here on holiday and it was
immediately magic. I was not born and
not even growing up here, but I choose
this place. And now I would like to show and

reported, of traces, but also on pastures and does not have, as a

Levanzo, la più piccola delle isole Egadi, è la più timida e
tranquilla delle tre, ideale per chi ama la quiete e silenzi.
Il nome greco dell’isola era Phorbantia, probabilmente a
causa dell’abbondante quantità di erba nell’isola. È la più
antica, con la sua formazione che risale al periodo triassico, circa duecento milioni di anni fa. È costituita da rocce
calcaree bianche che presentano numerose grotte tra le
quali la Grotta del Genovese. Durante le nostre passeggiate faremo dei percorsi che ci condurranno a scoprire
vecchi e solitari rifugi di pastori e la storia dell’isola. In
ogni escursione potremmo osservare le piante tipiche
della gariga e della macchia mediterranea, e con un po’
di fortuna potremmo ammirare alcuni esemplari di rapaci come il Falco Pellegrino, il Gheppio ed alcune specie di
berte.
Levanzo is the smallest of the three Egadi Islands, off the
western coast of Sicily. The island’s little port is hugely picturesque; a small cluster of pale square buildings huddled
around a little harbour of an amazing blue sea. Levanzo is the
most timid and quiet Island of Egadi, ideal for those seeking
peace and silence. It is the oldest, with its formation dating
back to the Triassic period. There’s one major tourist site on
the island: Grotta del Genovese, a cave containing prehistoric
art. During our walks we will take the paths that will lead us
to discover old and lonely huts of shepherds and the island’s
history. In every trip we could observe the typical plants of the
Mediterranean scrubland, and with a little luck we might see
some unique species of birds of prey such as the peregrine
falcon, the kestrel and shearwaters.

Protagonista di questa escursione è la Grotta del Genovese,
preistorico santuario di religione
e cultura. Alla grotta ci si arriva,
partendo dal porto di Levanzo, in
barca, godendo dell’affascinante
vista della costa (se le condizioni
meteo-marine non lo consentono
si va in fuoristrada/min-van). Una
volta visitata la grotta si rientra
in porto in passeggiata, lungo un
sentiero mozzafiato. É prevista
sosta pic-nic.
Partendo dal porto di Levanzo,
si arriverà alla Grotta del Genovese camminando. Dopo aver
visitato la grotta si farà ritorno
al paese attraverso un percorso
che costeggia le acque cristalline dell’isola. Una volta arrivati a
Cala Faraglione avrete la possibilità di fare il bagno in una delle 20
spiagge più belle d’Italia. È prevista sosta pic-nic.
Attraversando un sentiero nascosto tra le poche case dell’isola, avremo modo di ammirare
dall’alto un angolo del porto. Il
percorso ci condurrà alla scoperta della storia dell’isola, contraddistinta dai periodi di dominazione saracene e dell’impronta
della famiglia Florio. L’escursione
termina a Cala Minnula, dove sarà
possibile fare un bagno e rinfrescarsi sotto le ombrose aree attrezzate, ricche di pini.
The protagonist of this excursion is
the Grotta del Genovese, prehistoric
sanctuary where religion and culture
take their first steps. You get there
by boat, starting from the port of Levanzo, enjoying the fascinating view
of the coast (if the weather conditions do not allow, you go by jeep).
After visiting the cave you returns
to port walking along a breathtaking

Walking from Grotta del Genovese
to Levanzo village brings you to the
island’s Faraglione, a rock stack in
the sea. We will rest at one of the 20
most beautiful beaches in Italy: Cala

Favignana prende il nome dal Favonio, un vento caldo proveniente da ovest. Ha
la forma di una farfalla con le ali spiegate. Le escursioni di L’Amo Travel vi permetteranno di ammirare le meravigliose sfumature del mare che si fondono in
una perfetta armonia con il verde di alcune tipiche piante di queste zone, come
l’Acanto (Acanthus Mollis L.), la Violaciocca (Matthiola Incana), le meravigliose
Agavi, l’immancabile Fico d’india (Opuntia Ficus) e una pianta endemica delle
Egadi, il Cavolo Marino (Brassica Macrocarpa). I colori della natura risalteranno
agli occhi grazie alla presenza delle cave di estrazione di tufo, per anni fonte di
guadagno per la popolazione favignanese.

Favignana is the largest and most important of the Egadi Islands. It takes its name
from the Zephyr, a warm wind from the west and is a great place to absorb the Island
atmosphere and stroll around the little town. Favignana’s shape is often compared
to a butterfly. Our excursions allow you to admire the beautiful sea shades that blend
in perfect harmony with the green of some typical Mediterranean plants such as
Acanto ( Acanthus mollis L.) and sea kale (Brassica Macrocarpa). Favignana’s tufa
quarries are remarkable feature of the island. The colors of nature will jump to the
eyes thanks to the presence of tufa quarries, for years a source of income for the
Favignana’s population.

On the Trail of Ulysses, at the Sunset
Si parte da Punta Marsala, seguendo un percorso che ci permetterà di esplorare le cave di
estrazione di tufo; paesaggio unico, colorato, che regalando panorami mozzafiato vi permetterà
di scoprire un pezzo importante
della storia dell’isola. Ci si dirige
verso Bue Marino, zona dai fondali splendidi, ideali per chi ama
tuffarsi; si raggiunge infine l’incantevole Cala Rossa, dal mare
cristallino e dagli scogli piatti.
Escursione dedicata all’Odissea, dove si avrà la possibilità
di scoprire Cala Rotonda, sede
dell’Arco di Ulisse; secondo Samuel Butler, studioso dell’ 800,
Favignana sarebbe “l’isola delle
Capre” di Omero, luogo in cui Ulisse sbarcò con i suoi compagni per
rifornirsi di cibo. Da Cala Rotonda,
splendido porto naturale, si potrà
ammirare il sole tramontare su
Marettimo, degustando un ottimo
aperitivo con prodotti locali.
This excursion departs from Punta
Marsala, following a path that will
allow us to explore the tuff quarries that are now underground gardens. All will appear to you a unique
and colorful landscape. We head
towards Bue Marino, where the blue
sea bottom is intense. Finally you
reach the enchanting Cala Rossa
characterized by crystal clear sea
and flat rocks.
This hike is dedicated to the Odyssey, you will have a chance to see
Cala Rotonda where the bow of Ulysses is located. The name refers to a
theory on Odyssey: in fact according
to Samuel Butler, Favignana would be
the “Island of the Goats” of Homer,
where Ulysses landed to stock up on
food. You can admire the sunset on
Marettimo enjoying an excellent aperitif with local products.

Durante questa passeggiata si
avrà la possibilità di ammirare 35
mila mq di bellissimi giardini ipogei ricavati, con splendida armonia, nelle antiche cave di tufo (in
realtà calcarenite). Luoghi incantevoli, insospettabili, carichi di
magia, colori, profumi suoni e silenzi. Un’esperienza indimenticabile, che ti consentirà di scoprire
l’opera dei “pirriaturi”, gli antichi
maestri cavatori di tufo, vanto ed
identità dell’isola.
La famiglia Florio diede un fortissimo impulso economico e culturale alle Isole Egadi. Ammireremo
dall’esterno l’imponente patrimonio lasciato dai Florio all’isola: Palazzo Florio, stabilimento
Florio, Camperia, Chiesa di S.
Antonio. Visiteremo poi la Chiesa
Matrice e l’antico rione di S. Anna,
dove si avrà la percezione di un
percorso al di fuori del turismo
di massa grazie all’esperienza e
alla sensibilità della nostra guida.
Una piacevole passeggiata in
cui si potrà incontrare la famosa
Grotta del Pozzo, famosa soprattutto per la sua iscrizione punica
che tratta, molto probabilmente,
un argomento funerario. Raggiungeremo poi Cala S. Nicola, piccolo
porto naturale frequentato inizialmente dai Fenici e il sito archeologico tardo romano Bagno
delle Donne. Concluderemo visitando l’area di Scalo Cavallo con
l’affascinante cava ipogea.

our guide. This excursion is about the
domination of the Florio family. Just
look at the huge factory Florio, Palazzo Florio, church of Sant’Antonio. We
will visit also Chiesa Matrice and the
ancient district of Sant’Anna.
A pleasant walk where you will meet
the famous Grotta del Pozzo famous for its Punic inscription that is,
more likely, a funerary topic. Then we
will reach the small natural harbor of
Saint Nicola, originally frequented
by the Phoenicians, and the late Roman archaeological site “the ladies’
room”. We conclude by visiting the
Scalo Cavallo Area with the fascinating underground quarry.

Marettimo è un isola selvaggia e unica, il nome antico
citato da Polibio era “Hierà Nésos”, ovvero “Isola Sacra”.
Il nome attuale di derivazione latina era molto probabilmente “Marìtima”. L’isolamento dalla terraferma dovuto
al distaccamento dalla Sicilia, prima rispetto alle altre
due isole, ha fatto si che questa diventasse una delle più
interessanti dal punto di vista paesaggistico. Il risultato sono le circa 500 specie di piante tra le quali alcune
endemiche come ad esempio il Bupleuro di Marettimo
(Bupleurum Dianthifolium), Vedovina Trapanese (Scabiosa Limonifolia), Garofano delle Rupi (Dianthus Rupicula),
Finocchiella di Boccone (Seseli Bocconi). In merito alla
fauna é facile incontrare mufloni, cervi, cinghiali e conigli
selvatici, inoltre è possibile osservare moltissimi uccelli
di passo. Affascinante anche l’osservazione di Bianconi,
Aquile e dell’Uccello delle Tempeste.
Marettimo, is a wild and unique island; the ancient name
mentioned by Polybius, was “Hierà Nésos”, which means
“Sacred Island”. The present name was probably derived
from Latin “Maritima”. Isolation from the mainland, in contrast with the other two islands, due to the detachment from
Sicily, has meant that this became one of the most interesting in terms of landscape. The result of this detachment,
together with the presence of spring-waters and the mountain environment, are about 500 species of plants including
some endemic species such as the Bupleuro Marettimo (Bupleurum dianthifolium), Vedovina di Trapani (Scabiosa limonifolia), Garofano delle rupi (Dianthus rupicula), and Finocchiella di boccone (Seseli bocconi). Also very interesting is
the fauna, where it is possible to meet wild sheep, deer, wild
boars, wild rabbits and lying on the migratory routes, observe
many birds of passage.

Case Romane e Giro dell’Isola in Barca

Partendo dal porticciolo faremo un percorso che in un susseguirsi di profumi e di colori
mediterranei dovuti alla presenza di timo, rosmarino, lentisco, agavi ed euphorbia ci porterà
alle Case Romane e alla Chiesetta Bizantina. La prima a carattere militare è stata eretta in
epoca romana a scopo difensivo, successivamente si pensa sia stato un rifugio di alcuni
monaci che fuggivano dalle persecuzioni, la seconda si pensa essere risalente ai primi secoli
del cristianesimo. Una volta tornati al porto di Marettimo faremo un giro in barca dell’isola
che ci permetterà di visitare alcune delle 400 grotte che caratterizzano l’isola. Sicuramente
visiteremo: la Grotta del Cammello, che prende il nome da uno scoglio a forma di cammello;
la Grotta del Tuono, caratterizzata da profondi fondali di uno splendido ed intenso blu, che
prende il nome dai suoni prodotti dal mare al suo interno; la Grotta del Presepe, particolarmente suggestiva per le stalattiti e stalagmiti dalle forme particolari in cui la fantasia popolare ha visto le figure del presepe; la Grotta Perciata, con le sue rocce che sembrano quasi
levigate; la Grotta della Bombarda, così chiamata per il suo caratteristico “soffio” che si
viene a creare durante le mareggiate all’interno di una piccola fessura.
Departing from the small port, we will make a path that will take us to the Roman houses and
Byzantine church. The first house, with military character, was built in Roman times for defensive
purposes. It probably became a refuge for some monks fleeing from persecution; the second, a
single nave Byzantine church, is dated back to the early centuries of Christianity. Once returning
to Marettimo’s small port, we will take an island boat tour. Definitely we will visit the most captive
caves: Grotta del Camello, which takes its name from a rock shaped like a camel; Grotta del Tuono,
which takes its name from the sound produced by the sea; Grotta del Presepe, particularly suggestive for the stalactites and stalagmites of particular shapes in which popular imagination has seen
pictures of nativity; Grotta Perciata, with its rocks that seem almost smooth; Grotta Bombarda, so
named for its characteristic “breath” that is created during coastal storms in a small crack.

Lo Zingaro è un vero paradiso della natura per la grande varietà di ambienti naturali presenti sui suoi 1.600
ettari. La costa si apre sul mare con muraglioni calcarei alti e frastagliati, interrotti da calette, anfratti
rocciosi e grotte. Partendo dal livello del mare, e proseguendo in risalita sino alle vette più alte, si incontrano diversi tipi di ecosistemi, tutti estremamente
significativi. All’interno della riserva si trovano il Museo
Naturalistico, il Museo delle Attività Marinare, il Museo
della Civiltà Contadina, il Museo della Manna, il Centro
di Educazione Ambientale, due aree attrezzate e degli
antichi caseggiati rurali adibiti a rifugio.

Zingaro Reserve is a real paradise of nature for the great variety of natural environments characterizing its 1,600
hectares. The coast opens towards the sea with high and
indented calcareous walls interrupted by inlets, rocky
ravines, and caves. From the sea level to the highest peaks, you can meet different kinds of ecosystems, all extremely significant. Within the reserve are the Natural History
Museum, the Museum of Maritime Activities, Museum of
Rural Life, the Museum of the Manna, the Environmental
Education Center, two picnic areas and blocks of ancient
rural craft.

Riserva Naturale Orientata dello Zingaro: Il Sentiero Costiero
Natural Reserve of Zingaro: the Coast Trail
Ritrovo presso il porto di Trapani e trasferimento in transfer fino all’ingresso sud della riserva per trascorrere mezza giornata tra sentieri e calette di un paradiso chiamato “Zingaro”.
Consigliamo di portare abbastanza acqua (non ci sono punti ristoro all’interno della riserva).
Dopo un’ accurata presentazione della vegetazione presente lungo il sentiero, visiteremo
il Museo della Manna (testimonianza di un antica attività diffusa un tempo), il Museo del
Grano e la casa rurale dove si potranno ammirare interessanti cesti, panieri e contenitori
realizzati con tecniche tradizionali utilizzando palme, canne, disa e rametti di olivastro. Si
arriverà alla Grotta dell’Uzzo, uno dei più importanti siti preistorici dell’intera Sicilia; all’interno di essa sono state rinvenute tracce di presenze umane risalenti a 10.000 anni fa. Probabilmente ancora anteriori sono i resti di alcuni animali ritrovati nell’antro quali rinoceronti,
leoni e mammuth. Sosta con bagno in una delle più suggestive cale della Riserva: Cala della
Tonnarella dell’Uzzo. Transfer per San Vito Lo Capo, pranzo libero e rientro a Trapani.
Meeting point at Trapani Port. Transfer to the South’s entrance of the reserve. We will visit Museo
della Manna in a testimony of an ancient popular activity and then visit the Museo del Grano and
the rural house. Here you will admire interesting baskets, handbaskets and containers made with
traditional techniques using products that nature offers like palms, reeds, and a little branch of
olive. Passage from Grotta dell’ Uzzo: this Cave is one of the most important prehistoric sites
of Sicily, within it were found traces of human presence dating back to about 10,000 years ago.
Probably even earlier are the remains of some animals found in the cave such as rhinos, lions and
mammoths. The human remains recovered from the excavations in the cave are preserved at the
Antonio Salinas Regional Archaeological Museum of Palermo. Stop for a swim in one of the most
suggestive bays of the Reserve: Baia dell’Uzzo. Transfer to San Vito for packed lunch. At 15.00
transfer from San Vito to Trapani’s harbour.
Monte Cofano è un promontorio
montuoso di natura calcarea, dalla caratteristica forma triangolare
a picco sul mare, che raggiunge
i 659 m di altezza. Nel suo ambito sono presenti una piccola area
umida stagionale, una forra torrentizia (Gole di Cipollazzo) e numerosi
fenomeni carsici legati al rimodellamento della roccia calcarea da
parte dell’acqua, sia in superficie
(doline e inghiottitoi) che in profondità (grotte). La Riserva racchiude
differenti ecosistemi mediterranei
ma la vera peculiarità botanica della riserva è rappresentata dall’ambiente rupestre che ospita numerosi endemismi.
Monte Cofano is a mountainous promontory of limestone, with a characteristic triangular shape above the
sea, which reaches 659 metre in height. Within it there are a small seasonal wetland, a torrential ravine (Gorge
Cipollazzo) and numerous karst phenomena related to remodeling of the
limestone rock by water, both surface
(sinkholes and sinkholes) and depth
(caves). The Reserve includes different Mediterranean ecosystems but
the real botanical peculiarity of the
reserve is represented from the rocky
environment that is home to many endemic species.

Natural Reserve of Mount Cofano: the Sea Trail
Ritrovo presso il porto di Trapani e trasferimento fino all’ingresso della riserva. Percorreremo
il sentiero del mare, che ci permetterà di apprezzare una coloratissima varietà di paesaggio
partendo da Cala Buguto e percorreremo la linea di costa. Questo è uno degli itinerari più
suggestivi in quanto si sviluppa tra cielo, terra e mare con scorci di incomparabile bellezza
sulle varie calette. Questo percorso permetterà di passare lunga la Grotta del Crocifisso,
attraverso il Passo della Zita e lungo altri importanti elementi caratterizzanti la riserva. Se
si è fortunati si potrà ammirare qualche specie di rapace (come l’aquila del Bonelli o il falco
pellegrino) che dall’alto dominano la riserva. Arrivati alla Tonnara di Cofano, che con la sua
torre era un tempo fonte di sostentamento per i pescatori del paese e risaltava nell’economia di Trapani per la sua attività prolifera, potremmo ammirare un paesaggio fatto di piccole
calette dove faremo una sosta con un eventuale bagno. Proseguiremo fino al primo punto
utile accessibile per il transfer, che ci aspetterà per il rientro al porto di Trapani.
Meet at the port of Trapani and transfer to the entrance of the reserve. Starting from Cala Buguto, we will travel along the path of the sea, which allows us to appreciate a colorful variety of
landscape. This is one of the most evocative because it develops between sky, earth and sea
with views of incomparable beauty on the various coves along the coastline. This route allows
us to go into Grotta del Crocifisso, through Passo della Zita and along other important elements
characterizing the reserve; then it could be possible to admire some species of birds of prey (such
as Bonelli’s eagle or the peregrine falcon) that from above dominates the reserve. Arriving at Tonnara di Cofano, that with its tower, was once a source of sustenance for fishermen and so very
important for the economy of Trapani for its proliferation activities, we could admire a landscape
of small coves where we will stop for a swim stop. At the end of the excursion we could go back
down the path already traveled or go back with the transfer car.

e spesso coperta dalla sua “nuvola
personale”, Erice é una città medievale meravigliosamente preservata che
offre panorami mozzafiato ed un palpabile senso di storia. Originariamente fortezza elima, Erice o Eryx come
era stata chiamata per la prima volta,
era una città di non poca importanza
e rinomata; si dice che abbia attratto
personaggi quali Ercole ed Enea. Tra i
siti maggiormente visitati ci sono due
castelli, il Castello Pepoli ed il Castello
di Venere.
Towering over the west of Sicily at 751m
above sea level and often covered in its
own personal cloud, Erice is a wonderfully preserved Mediaeval town offering the
most breathtaking views and a palpable
sense of history. Originally an Elymian city
(the Elymians were around before the Greeks ever set foot in Sicily) Erice, or Eryx
as it was first called, was a town of no
little importance and renown and is said
to have attracted character likes Hercules
and Aeneas. Amongst the most visited sites are the two castles, Pepoli Castle and
Venus Castle.

The CAI Path and the Three Churches
Partendo da un sentiero fatto
di lecci, dopo una breve strada
asfaltata, ammirando magnifici
paesaggi di Trapani arriveremo a
Torretta Pepoli dove inizieremo il
vero e proprio percorso naturalistico; avremo modo di incontrare
il profumato origano, il diffuso
acanto, la ginestra e il finocchietto selvatico. L’itinerario terminerà
alla fine di un sentiero dal quale
si potrà ammirare la bellezza di
Monte Cofano.
L’escursione, partendo da PortaSpada, scende lungo il versante
settentrionale di Monte Erice, verso i resti di Porta Castellammare.
Visiteremo tre chiese rupestri
databili al XIV secolo: Santa Maria Maddalena, Sant’ Ippolito e
Santa Maria Maggiore. Il percorso
è altamente panoramico, sarà
possibile ammirare diversi scorci
trapanesi: dalla piana di Valderice, ai rilievi di Custonaci, San Vito
Lo Capo e le Egadi.
Starting with a path made of oaks,
after a short paved road, admiring
magnificent landscapes, we will arrive at Torretta Pepoli where we will
start the real nature trail; we will
meet the fragrant oregano, the widespread acanthus, the wild fennel.
After traveling a path full of scents
and colors, the route will finish at
the end of a path where it’s possible
admire the beauty of Monte Cofano.
The path starts at the Porta Spada
continuing along the northern slope
of Mount Erice towards the remains
of Porta Castellammare. Along path
will meet three stone churches dating back to the fourteenth century:
S. Maria Maddalena, Sant‘Ippolito
and S.Maria Maggiore. The route is
very scenic, seeing different views
of Trapani: Custonaci, S. Vito Lo Capo
and also the Egadi’s islands.

Questa riserva, gestita dal WWF, è una delle aree umide più importanti della Sicilia occidentale; si tratta di un ambiente antropico, quindi artificialmente costruito ma nel quale
regna un equilibrio quasi perfetto con la natura. Area attiva nella produzione del sale, ambiente ideale per la sosta di diverse specie importanti di uccelli, un’emozione indefinibile
quella di osservarli attraverso un binocolo, per non parlare dei magici colori che i tramonti
delle saline riservano.
This reserve, managed by WWF, is one of the most important wetlands in Western Sicily; it is
a man-made environment, and artificially constructed but reigns an almost perfect equilibrium
with nature. An active area in the production of salt, and ideal for break of several important species of birds. It’s an indefinable emotion to observe them through binoculars, together with the
magic colors of sunsets that salt pans reserve.

Il litorale di Trapani con un “pizzico” di sale! Presso la Salina Calcara visiteremo un ampio parco
corredato da un museo allestito
all’aperto con diversi mulini, tra
cui uno di recente restauro e visitabile al suo interno. Sarà possibile assaporare e rivivere l’attività
produttiva della salicoltura. Vasche di sale bianco e cristallino e
un’ ampia esposizione di attrezzi
utilizzati per l’estrazione e la raccolta del sale saranno il contorno.
La storia delle saline trapanesi è
antichissima e si fa risalire probabilmente al popolo dei Fenici.
Su un percorso guidato, gli ospiti
del museo ripercorrono le tappe
e le vicende di una storia lunga
secoli e secoli. Passeggeremo in
esplorazione tra le saline circostanti, facendo birdwatching e
riconoscendo le specie peculiari
della riserva. Possibile fermata
presso Mulino Maria Stella (via
Libica) per ulteriore osservazione.
The Trapani coastline with a “pinch
of salt”. At Salina Calcara there is a
large complete park with an openair museum set that includes several mills, including one recently
restored and visited inside; around
tubs of white crystal salt and a large display of tools used for the extraction and harvest of salt. You can
enjoy and relive the salt productive
activity.
The history of the Trapani salt works
is ancient and dates back probably
to the people of the Phoenicians.
Thanks to a guided tour, guests of
the museum reminisce the various
stages and the vicissitudes of a
history long-lasting centuries and
centuries; plus it is possible can
make a walk in the surrounding salt
pans. Possible further observation
at Mulino Maria Stella.
