Il mercato delle pulci
The most famous mercato delle pulci or flea market in Rome is at Porta Portese, just
outside Trastevere. It is held every Sunday morning. Caterina and Sara have decided to
shop at the Mercato di via Sannio near the Basilica di San Giovanni. Via Sannio is
open Monday through Friday from 10:00 to 16:00. While Porta Portese is more well
known for antiques and all sorts of unusual items, Via Sannio specializes in used
clothing.

When young Italian people talk about their boyfriends or girlfriends, they generally say il
mio ragazzo or la mia ragazza. If a serious long-term relationship is implied, they often
use fidanzato/a, whether or not they are officially engaged. Adults might use the word
compagno/a or the English word il/la partner to talk about a long-term relationship.
Engagements tend to be very long, as young people are waiting until their late twenties or
thirties to get married.
