Il primo standard fu scritto nel 1929 ed anche i primi sette cani furono registrati nello stesso anno.
Per anni le registrazioni furono molto basse. In Italia negli anni ottanta diversi allevatori iniziarono a ricostruire la razza,
usando altre razze, riuscendo così a salvare la razza che si stava estinguendo. Si trattò di un importante lavoro per la razza.
Cio’ significa che oggi un allevatore deve conoscere bene le corrette caratteristiche della razza.
I geni di altre razze implica la possibilità di presenza di caratteristiche non tipiche della razza. Anche i più tipici e meritevoli
Bolognesi possono produrre cuccioli che nascono testimoniando questo.

The first breed standard was written in 1929 and also the first seven dogs were registered.
For years the registrations were very low. In Italy, in the 80s, several breeders started to restore the breed
by using also other breeds and managed to save the breed from extinction. This was very important work for the breed.
This means still today that a breeder has to know well the correct charasteristics of the breed.
Genes from other breeds mean, that there are also charasteristics that are not typical for the breed. Even very typical and
highly merited Bolognese can have puppies that bear testimony of this.

L’Architetto Giuseppe Alessandra, giudice all round E.N.C.I., srive sui Nostri Cani (2001), che il piccolo cane dipinto da
Vittore Carpaccio è un genuino Bolognese. Ha un intenso sguardo, orecchie svolazzanti distaccate dal cranio,
il pelo è morbido arricciato e corto sul muso. Il cane è così prezioso per il suo nobile maestro che invece di correre
nelle strade sporche, è seduto con lui sulla gondola.

Architect and All Round Judge E.N.C.I. Giuseppe Alessandra writes in I Nostri Cani (2001), that the small dog in
Vittore Carpaccio’s painting is a genuine Bolognese. It has a vivid gaze and hanging ears that are detached from the
skull. The coat is fluffy and crinkled, and shorter on the muzzle. The dog is so precious for its noble master,
that it is not running on dirty streets but sitting in the gondola wiht him.

La taglia più piccola è solitamente preferita in quanto il Bolognese ideale – era utilizzato come cane di lusso condotto dai nobili proprietari. Per esempio un rinomato maschio campione di successo misura cm 28 all’altezza al garrese e stessa cosa
relativamente a tre rinomate femmine che misurano cm 24, 24 e 25.

Smaller size is usually preferred as the ideal Bolognese is mentioned to be small – it used to be a luxury dog carried by its

IL CRANIO È PIATTO .
La sua lunghezza è uguale alla sua larghezza. La lunghezza del muso è uguale ai 2/5 della lunghezza della
testa. Gli assi cranio-facciali sono paralleli. Le orecchie sono inserite alte, dando l’impressione di una testa più larga di quanto
lo è realmente. Gli occhi sono in posizione sub-frontale e più grandi del normale. Il colore corretto degli occhi è ocra scuro.

Comune problema delle razze molto piccole: muso troppo corto, stop troppo pronunciato, cranio troppo pesante ed arrotondato
(N.B.: evoluzione della testa del Maltese!). E’ molto importante mantenere la corretta testa ed espressione.

La storia del Bolognese è ancora giovane. L’utilizzo di altre razze nella ricostruzione del Bolognese ha avuto come conseguenza di
avere ancora tratti non proprio tipici della razza. A sinistra: muso troppo lungo, testa stretta, espressione atipica. Sulla destra: occhi
troppo piccoli, stop sfuggente. L’espressione in generale molto atipica.
The history of the Bolognese is still young. The use of other breeds in the restoration of the breed means that there are
still a lot of features not typical for the breed. On the left: too long muzzle, narrow head, untypical expression.

Il corretto mantello è qualcosa di molto importante in questa razza. Purtroppo, è scarsamento descritto nello standard.
I principali punti:
Il pelo è lungo e morbido, quindi non piatto.
Il pelo forma boccoli – la corretta struttura è essenziale.
Ci sono due tipi di pelo, che non formano differenti strati.
Il pelo è più lungo e più setoso sulla coda e sulle orecchie.
Il corretto colore è l’avorio. Leggere striature appena più scure sono tollerate (standard 2016).
I cani giovani spesso hanno una tonalità beige sulle orecchie fino all’età di 1,5-2 anni – perfettamente accettato.

There are two kind of hairs, that do not form different layers.
The hair is longer and more silky in the tail and in the ears.
The correct colour is ivory! Very light shades of slightly darker tone are tolerated (standard 2016).
Young dogs often have beige tone in the ears until they are 1,5–2 yrs – perfectly acceptable!

Due i tipi di pelo / Two kind of hairs
Sono due i tipi di pelo, uno più lanoso e soffice ed un altro più fitto e pesante. Questi due tipi di pelo non formano due differenti strati e sono distribuiti su tutto il corpo ad eccezione delle orecchie e della coda dove la tessitura è più setosa.

There are two kind of hairs, one that is wolly and soft and one that is thicker, harder and glossy. These hairs do not form
different layers, but are distributed all over the body except the ears and tail where the coat is more silky. As the woolly hairs
break more easily the top part of the coat is dominated by the thicker hairs.
