Esterno. È molto importante frenare a fondo lentamente. We are certain that it will give the utmost satisfaction and be a notable help on the job. Please become fully familiar with the instructions in this user’s manual. It should be kept ready to hand for consultation whenever required. The braking test roller benches 85BT and the Suspensions test benches 79STE allow to check rapidly the effectiveness of the braking system and the effectiveness of the suspensions of cars and vehicles globally weighing up to 3.500 kg, equipped with any type of traction and braking system: 2 or 4 Wheel Drive with self-locking differentials and viscous couplings. The braking effectiveness is measured through the signal detected by the sensors located on every roller and through the detection of the Static Weight of the vehicle. The unit processing to Personal Computer determines the correct effectiveness and the maximum braking power for every wheel. The Suspensions test bench carries out the check of the suspensions effectiveness by means of the EUSAMA system which checks the minimum grip the suspensions can guarantee to the wheel. All of the indications concerning the test and the test results are displayed both digitally and graphically on the screens of the Personal Computer managing all of the diagnosis and inspection appliances. The brake test stand 85BT is fully conforming with the technical requirements of the Italian Regulation being currently in force concerning overhauls of vehicles up to 3,5 t and it was designed to be connected to an overhaul line working with MCTC Net protocol either in the NETWORK or in the DIR mode. In case the braking test bench is installed in a passage position or in a place accessible to the public, when it is not used, it has to be covered or duly enclosed. Unauthorised people have not to work with the braking test bench. For this reason the main switch has to be locked when the braking test bench is off. The braking test bench has to be used within the limits (allowed load, test speed, etc.) indicated in the relevant technical data cards. The brake test bench must be used with a rated power value stated in the technical features with an ignition time of 20% of the rated power. This means that a working period of 2 minutes is followed by a rest period lasting 8 minutes. The vehicles positioning on the braking test bench has to be carried out slowly so as to avoid heavy solicitations to the vehicle and to the bench. Quit the braking test bench only while the rollers are moving. Please check and screw the clamping screws of the covering plates to avoid damages to the vehicle during the positioning and exit operations. The access to electrical control devices (ex. fuses) which cannot be controlled from the outside is allowed only to trained personnel. Before opening the electrical units, disconnect the electrical supply. All of the electrical components have to be kept. The correct functioning of the braking test bench safety devices (for instance the limit-switches of the central roller of the braking test bench) has to be checked regularly. The central roller of the bench has to be equipped with an anti-fall plate. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 73 BRAKING TEST ROLLER BENCH _______________________________________________________________ The test benches mounted at the pits sides should (in some countries it is compulsory) be equipped with special safety devices preventing the personnel from stopping near driving parts, wheels or moving parts of the braking test bench. In case the automatic operative mode luminous signal is defective the use of the brake test bench is forbidden until the signal has been repaired and the automatic operative mode is clearly identifiable again. ATTENTION: Do not use the braking test bench for aims differing from those it has been conceived for: a. The braking test bench has not to be calibrated while the rollers are moving. b. Do not start the vehicles engines by using the rollers of the braking test bench. c. Do not park vehicles on the brake test bench and especially not with the driving axle, not with gear engaged, and not the key on (as to diesel engines, the positioning with the driving axle even with the key off must be avoided) since there is the risk of a vehicle engine starting during the brake test bench initial operations involving the loss of control on the driving axle. d. The EMERGENCY FUNCTIONING operative mode (key selector) must be only used when the vehicle leaves the set of rollers and in case breakdown is detected in the appliance. e. Remove the key from the emergency functioning button in order to avoid any improper uses and keep the appliance safe. f. In the AUTOMATIC FUNCTIONING mode the rollers start some seconds after they have been occupied by the axle to be tested. For this reason the remote control has to be positioned inside the vehicle next to the operator for the possible emergency stop of rollers. g. A wrong use of the remote control may cause unexpected starts of rollers. For this reason it has to be kept in a safe place whose access is allowed to authorised personnel only. 74 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS _______________________________________________________________ BRAKING TEST ROLLER BENCH GENERAL RULES FOR A SAFE USE OF THE BENCH ATTENTION: Please read carefully the following indications in order to avoid possible malfunctions. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 81 BRAKING TEST ROLLER BENCH _______________________________________________________________ 2.0 - GENERAL DESCRIPTION The line for vehicles technical general inspection is comprised of: Braking test roller bench. Weighing system: Integrated. External. External integrated to the suspensions test stand. Platform for the control of the dynamic convergence (tracking). The braking test bench check the braking efficiency of cars and of light trucks having a maximum total weight of 3.500 kg. It can either be installed individually or combined to the suspensions test stand for the control of the suspension system, carried out in conditions of maximum dynamic stress. The line can also be completed by adding the platform for the control of the side slip and by adding the weighing system (where the suspensions test stand is not installed). NOTES: In the systems including the suspensions test, while performing the official brake test, the programme does not carry out any test on suspensions and hence uses the stand only as a scale. 82 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS _______________________________________________________________ BRAKING TEST ROLLER BENCH 3.0 - DETAILED DESCRIPTION 3.1 - Rollers unit The rollers unit is completely galvanized to prevent corrosion, the supports are of the screened type; hence they are protected and need poor maintenance. The rollers unit is supplied in a compact version complete with motors and with all the electronic components. The rollers unit is actuated by a pair of gear motors which ensure an idling test speed of 5,5 km/h. By virtue of these features the rollers unit can be installed outdoors; it is only necessary to provide for a suitable water drainage. The rollers are coated with an innovative material, the ceramic silica (CeSil), which enables to obtain a grip coefficient between the tyre and the roller being greater or equal to 0,8 as in relation to the surface condition (wet-dry). The coating is made so as to avoid any damaging to the tyre. Every torsion reaction caused by the car braking is prevented by the loading cell being mounted on the motor base which produces a signal proportional to the braking power applied to the rollers surface. Between the two rollers there is a control roller under which a plate against accidental fall is fitted. The wheel rotation, and hence the rotation of the idle roller, triggers a signal in the nearby sensor. This signal is proportional to the instant rim speed of the tyre and it is electronically compared to the starting rim speed (that is the speed of the driving rollers). This comparison allows the instrument to detect the exact slip point of the wheels. A system for the weighing of the tested axle can be integrated to the rollers unit. It is made by four weight transducers (loading cells) positioned under the rollers unit itself on the four sides of the unit. As an alternative, the brake test stand can be provided with an external scale or with an Eusama suspensions test stand that can measure axial weight through a pair of loading cells. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 83 BRAKING TEST ROLLER BENCH _______________________________________________________________ 3.2 - Power module On the power module are placed the commands for the different operative functions of the roller brake tester; moreover, this unit is used to connect the command effort meter. The power module contains: Automatic mode selection. Key selector for the emergency mode selection. The connector for command effort meter. The main switch. Remote control receiver. 3.3 - Management terminal The display unit is connected to a data management terminal which is comprised of personal computer, monitor, keyboard, and printer. The software is able to manage the data entering (model, type, manufacturer, plate, chassis, test weight and loaded weight, etc.), the result display and a data bank of all tests. Necessary configurations can be performed too, for ex. those related to limit values or initial and periodical checks. NOTES: Some functions are protected by a password to avoid the incorrect use of the program. 84 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS _______________________________________________________________ BRAKING TEST ROLLER BENCH In order to guarantee the system functioning the management terminal must comply with the following requirements: MINIMUM CPU 166 MHz Pentium 32 Mb RAM 2 serial ports 1 parallel port Drive 3" ½ 1 Gb HD Video card SVGA 1 Mb Mouse Windows Win 98 / NT RECOMMENDED CPU Celeron 850 MHz 128 Mb RAM 2 serial ports 1 parallel port Drive 3" ½ 20 Gb HD Video card SVGA 4 Mb Mouse Windows XP Display settings have to satisfy the following requirements: Monitor resolution 800 600, 256 colours. Usually, only authorised or at least trained personnel should carry out the braking tests. In order to have the vehicle firm on the rollers during the test, it is necessary to be able to position and remove the vehicles without problems and rapidly from the braking test bench. The test has not to be performed too rapidly otherwise the true behaviour of brakes cannot be detected. 4.1 - Positioning on the braking test bench It is absolutely necessary that the vehicle positioned on the rollers unit is in a straight and central position. In case the vehicle lies oblique on the rollers unit, it aligns itself automatically when the braking test bench starts and can be diverted to the rollers rim thus damaging the tyres on the chassis of the braking test bench itself. In this case it is possible to draw a central line on the bench (like that on the roads) so that the positioning is always carried out in the middle of the testing rollers. 4.2 - Braking test After the braking test bench has been started and it is ready to be used (the lamps stop flashing) the braking test can be started. It is very important to brake thoroughly and slowly. Only in this way it is possible to detect the possible wrong brakes behaviour on the analogic instruments. If the test is carried out too rapidly, the wheel reaches much sooner the slip limit and the measurement results are not correct. 4.3 - Exit from the rollers The exit from the braking test bench is slightly more difficult only in case the driving wheels are positioned on the rollers unit. In this case, when removing the car, the rollers have to be functioning so as to oppose the electric motor resistance to the wheels movement. An automatic rollers start function has been set when wheels start rotating. Clutch the gear. Release the clutch and quit rapidly the braking test bench. 88 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS _______________________________________________________________ BRAKING TEST ROLLER BENCH 5.0 - STARTING OPERATIONS Switch on the brake test bench by the main switch. Turn on the management terminal by the POWER button located on the terminal. Turn on the monitor. Turn on the printer (as to different functioning printing modes see the relevant manual). OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS _______________________________________________________________ BRAKING TEST ROLLER BENCH 9.0 - WEIGHING In the 85BT + 84ELW and 85BT + 79STE weighing systems, standing on the external weighing units is required before moving forward over the rollers. When the weighing operation starts, the bar on the screen turns from grey to red and lastly green once weight has been measured. If the selected system is 85BT + 79STE and after the weighing operation you don’t want to perform the suspensions test, in the seconds following the display of the weighing end screenpage, move forward with the vehicle and exit the weighing unit; otherwise, some seconds after the weighing end screenpage has been displayed, the suspensions test is automatically started. 10.0 - SIDE SLIP TEST To test the car it's necessary to pass on the tracking platform at low speed (maximum 5 km/h). The program automatic visualizes the value of slip of the car in mm/m (or m/km) and memorizes it. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 93 BRAKING TEST ROLLER BENCH _______________________________________________________________ 11.0 - SUSPENSIONS TEST To test the suspensions it's necessary to position the wheels of axle in test on the plates of suspensions tester. The program automatic visualizes the weight value of the individual wheels and the total weight of the axle. Press once the FRONT SUSPENSIONS key on remote control to memorise the weight, twice to start the suspensions test. To test the rear suspensions repeat the procedure using the REAR SUSPENSIONS key. 94 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS _______________________________________________________________ BRAKING TEST ROLLER BENCH 12.0 - BRAKE TEST Please follow instructions below: Enter required data into the management terminal. Position on the roller set centrally and perpendicularly. Start rollers (automatic functioning or via remote control). Slowly and gradually brake until locking rollers. Keep a constant pressure on the foot pedal during the ovality measurement. Start rollers before leaving the stand in case driving wheels are on rollers. ATTENTION: No repair or adjustment intervention has to be performed on the vehicle until it is positioned on rollers. ATTENTION: In case of rollers stop and hence of axle test end due to the reaching of the limit effort by the pedal effort meter the test needs to be repeated by manually stopping the rollers when the limit effort is nearly reached. The repetition of the test cycle in case of negative or doubtful result is prescribed by the regulations. ATTENTION: In case of brake test stand equipped with integrated scale, it is absolutely necessary that the installation is performed as a function of the reference masonry works in order to guarantee compliance with the maximum admitted tolerance concerning the vehicle tilt ensuring the accuracy of weight measurement. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 95 BRAKING TEST ROLLER BENCH _______________________________________________________________ 12.1 - Brake test with remote control As soon as required data have been entered into the management terminal the real test can be started. The first axle to be tested must be brought on the roller set. Rollers starting to test the service brake. Rollers starting to test the parking brake. Immediately after the start of the test, do not brake, as signalled by the warning message being displayed on the screen. If you want to check ovality, during the test push the same button used for rollers starting. After that, brake in constant manner until an effort of about 400 N is reached. As reminded by the specific message on the screen, keep the effort on the pedal constant until the message disappears. Ovality test end. Brake until rollers lock. 96 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS _______________________________________________________________ BRAKING TEST ROLLER BENCH In case the adherence limit is not reached, stop the test by the STOP key. After rollers locking the measured values are automatically stored on the management terminal. The other axle can now be tested. At the end of each test, the involved axle is stored and the WORK PAGE is displayed. Personalised test sequence In case the automatic test sequence causes trouble or incorrect data have been stored it is possible to: to select a subsequent axle number or to select a previous axle number. NOTES: Described keys refer to the remote control and not to the management terminal keyboard. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 97 BRAKING TEST ROLLER BENCH _______________________________________________________________ 12.2 - Automatic mode brake test In case quick brake tests have to be performed without needing to store or print, the brake tester can be started by the AUTO START key. ATTENTION: At the pressure of the rollers unit key no vehicle must lean on the roller set. Automatic ON By pressing the AUTO START key on the remote control the automatic function is enabled and displayed both on the monitor. Automatic OFF By pressing the STOP key on the remote control the automatic function is disabled while the semi-automatic one s enabled and displayed both on the monitor. By pushing the Shift key F8 (AUTO/MAN) on the keyboard, you can perform the automatic test but with the possibility of storing and printing the test data. This option is recommended in case the remote control is not available. In case the brake meter configuration requires the hoisting unit, its operation cannot be included in the automatic test and consequently its status shall remain “low”. NOTES: The hoisting unit can be activated exclusively by means of the remote control. If the weighing system is present and external, the weighing (and suspensions test if needed) of the vehicle shall be carried out by moving forward on the weighing unit. By positioning the vehicle on the roller group, the unit automatically starts after 2 or 3 seconds and the brake test can start. 98 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS _______________________________________________________________ BRAKING TEST ROLLER BENCH As in the semi-automatic test, do not brake in the first instants during the rolling resistance test, as underlined by the message on the screen Do not brake. When such message disappears, brake in constant manner (about 400 Newton) to start the ovalization phase. When the message Keep the effort constant disappears, you can push the pedal to the end of travel until the test end condition is reached. Wait for the WORK PAGE to be displayed, where the automatic test symbol is shown, before leaving the roller group by moving forward. NOTES: If the vehicle leaves the rollers group before this page is displayed, storing of data is stopped and braking shall thus be repeated. Move forward and perform the service brake test by placing the rear wheels on the rollers and following the procedure described for the front wheels. To perform the part of the test that checks the status of the parking brake, briefly push the brake pedal (until you reach 400 N approx.) immediately after the start of the first of the two rollers of the group. If this operation is performed correctly, on the braking effort measurement page, the symbol in the middle of the page representing the type of brake being tested will turn from “service brake” to “parking brake”. NOTES: If the vehicle is already on the rollers, do not exit the group at the end of the service brake test: just wait for some seconds and the rollers will be automatically restarted thus allowing for the procedure described above. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 99 BRAKING TEST ROLLER BENCH _______________________________________________________________ 13.0 - 4 WD TEST 13.1 - Test with remote control This test can be performed only in case the brake test stand is equipped with a kit for opposed rotation (4 WD). During the test on a 4WD vehicle the two sides of the brake test stand can be started in the opposite direction. To test the left wheel press these two keys of the remote control subsequently. To test the right wheel press these two keys of the remote control subsequently. To test the parking brake of the left wheel press these two keys subsequently. To test the parking brake of the right wheel press these two keys subsequently. The brake test on the 4WD works only if the foot pressure sensor is connected. 100 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS _______________________________________________________________ BRAKING TEST ROLLER BENCH 13.2 - Automatic 4 wd test After weighing the front axle and positioning the front wheels on the rollers group, the rollers start automatically with opposite rotation for the measurement of the braking effort of the service brake on the left front wheel. This is also underlined by the arrow being temporarily displayed on the screen indicating which wheel is being tested. Once the braking procedure on the left wheel has been completed, stay within the rollers group for the test on the right wheel as the rollers restart automatically. Once the service brake test for the front axle has been completed, wait for the page to change (as for the 2wd test) before moving forward and exiting the rollers. The whole procedure described above is repeated for the service brake on the rear axle. The test is naturally divided into two tests. Once these tests have been completed, stay on the roller for the start of the parking brake test. This test starts for the left wheel when the same procedure of the 2wd test is performed, namely pressure on the brake pedal to obtain at least a braking effort of 400 N on the wheel immediately after the beginning of the measurement. The symbol in the middle of the page will turn from “service brake” to “parking brake”. NOTES: The parking brake test on the right rear wheel starts automatically at the end of the test on the left wheel and so the slight initial braking is not required. Vehicle data This section is devoted to the vehicle and tool data, including those required for the official test (type approval number, serial number, validity). The time and the date are also printed automatically. Results Data reported in this section are explained in details. Results are obtained according to the type of selected program. All values are expressed and printed in Newton (N) while weights are expressed and printed in kilograms (kg). Weight values in Newton are obtained by multiplying kg weights by the 9,81 coefficient. Acceleration of gravity: g = 9,81 m/sec2. Messages This section presents messages defining the vehicle diagnosis in compliance with rules in force: Maximum braking power: is the maximum braking power measured on the rollers surface form the starting to the stop of the brake tester. Rotation resistance: is the maximum power measured on the roller surface without any action on the brake controls. Response pressure (only for heavy vehicles): pneumatic pressure at the first braking power increase. PM (only for heavy vehicles): delivery maximum pneumatic pressures. PZ, HD (only for heavy vehicles): bellows maximum pneumatic pressures (PZ), maximum hydraulic pressure (HD). Max foot effort: maximum effort on the pedal. Calculation pressure (only for heavy vehicles): delivery pneumatic pressure introduced before the test for full load extrapolation. Static unbalance: calculated by the program by using the maximum braking power data. Dynamic unbalance: maximum difference measured during the whole test related to the rollers locking value. Ovality: calculated by the program in case during the test the relevant measurement procedure has been enabled. Wheel weight: this value is printed only in case the brake test stand is equipped with the weighing system. Axle weight: this value is printed only in case the brake test stand is equipped with the weighing system. Introduced weight: is the weight of the vehicle under testing. Efficiency: calculated by the program by the above-described braking power and weight values. If the values are too high, this means that the wheel was already partially braked (locked brakes cylinders, interference between the disk and the pad or the block and the drum, etc.). Slight and regular fluctuations in the values of histograms in this phase represent ovalization of tyres or rims. The readings during the braking have to be interpreted according to the examples below. INSTRUMENTS READINGS POSSIBLE INTERPRETATION Slight and regular fluctuations Ovalized drums or distorted disks (if no previous ovalization of tyres or rims was detected). Regular variations at each rotation Corrosion or consumption on brake drums/disks. Rapid oscillations Presence of oil, water or vitrified braking surface. Slow increase Presence of grease in the blocks or in the pads. Late decrease when Sticking of blocks or pads when the pedal is released. Sudden decrease Hydraulic or pneumatic leaks. Select F11 (or click on the relevant icon) from the WORK PAGE to display the MCTC-Net page. 1 2 3 After enabling the NETWORK (CB25 active) or DIR (CB25 and CB26 active) connection, the update of the vehicles list to be accepted or overhauled is automatically carried out every 10 seconds. 1. P Symbol: It indicates that the vehicle relating to this plate has not yet been accepted (it is still in the parking area). These data are available only if the instrument is connected in the NETWORK mode. 2. Key Symbol: It indicates that the vehicle relating to the plate has already been accepted and it may also have been overhauled on another tester (it could be on the overhaul line). 3. Pickup Symbol: This symbol combined with the key symbol indicates that this vehicle has already been overhauled by the rollers brake test stand. Every vehicle in the list can either be selected or deselected by the operator, as he wishes. To select the vehicle double click on the plate relating to the wished vehicle included in the list. In case the list is so long as to include more vehicles than the displayed ones, the list of the vehicles automatically displays one tool, being technically denominated ScrollBar, that enables the operator to vertically scroll the list (this tool is compatible with the functions that are usually implemented in Windows). OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 117 BRAKING TEST ROLLER BENCH _______________________________________________________________ After selecting the vehicle, the operator can display on the screen all of the MCTC-Net data received from the net and relating to the selected vehicles. All the data are presented on the screen through a mask (the display of these data may require some seconds depending on the traffic on the net). The MCTC-Net data mask may be quitted at any moment by simply pressing the ESC key. If the mask is quitted through the ESC key, this means that in any case the data that have possibly been modified are not saved in the relevant file .ACC or .PRE (only in case of NETWORK connection). Hence the use of the ESC key keeps the data unaltered with respect to the situation preceding the vehicle selection. After the display of the data mask, the displayed fields may be checked and possibly modified if needed by the operator. The selected vehicle plate is displayed with clear characters. Alternatively, in the same field, the error message is displayed in case one of the fields is missing or contains a formal error. If one or more errors are present in one of the fields of the data received from the MCTC-Net network, the relevant field contains the error message and blinks in red. In case the operator modifies the information contained in the fields he wishes to modify, the programme performs a formal and logical check of the entered information; in case of information not formally correct, the confirmation of the entered data generates an error message having the colour of the relevant field that turns red. By pointing the mouse on the field to be modified, for a short time a small help window is displayed warning the operator with an example of the format that the programme is expecting as input datum. 4 4. CONFIRMATION: To confirm the acceptance of one vehicle to be overhauled. 118 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS _______________________________________________________________ BRAKING TEST ROLLER BENCH To confirm the introduction of the data and the acceptance of the input mask, use the CONFIRMATION button (4). Only when this button is pressed with the mouse, the data are confirmed and saved in the relevant MCTC-Net directory. If all the pieces of information are correct and the MCTC Net data input mask has been confirmed through the relevant key, the rollers brake test stand can resume its ordinary operation. At the bottom of the display the MCTC button (F11) enables the MCTC Net saving of the test data. Carry out the ordinary vehicle check. Recall the wished test results, print them and save them in the local data base. At the end of the operation save the test data in the MCTC Net data base through the suitable key F11. If the test data were no more necessary, the operator can cancel them through the F10 key; this action disables the effect of the MCTC Net data saving button MCTC (F11) which, in this case, enables to recall new vehicles. If the operator memorizes the data of the test on the MCTC Net data base, the MCTC button (F11) enables again to recall new vehicles. 19.0 - ACCESSORIES 19.1 - Radio measurement of the command effort The meter for the radio measurement of the command effort determines the pressure of the foot on the pedal during a brake sequence. Connect the receiver of the command effort meter to the relevant port of the power module. The sensor is automatically measured by the system. During the connection, make sure that the meter is not subject to any force. The sensor identification is confirmed by the turning on of the relevant signalling lamp. To measure the foot effort secure the sensor to the operator’s shoe by the special strap. During the braking test the foot effort is measured and displayed. The obtained value is automatically stored together with brake values. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 119 BRAKING TEST ROLLER BENCH _______________________________________________________________ 20.0 - PROGRAM SETTINGS Click on the symbol PRGSETUP in the Start menu under Programmes/Truck Saf to obtain the program settings. Meters: brake force indication analogue by pointer. Bars: brake force indication by bars. In addition, select the used resolution as well as the relation of the two scales for the brake forces (eg. ½ = 30.000 N/15.000 N or 1/5 = 30.000 N/6.000 N). Likewise set the sense of direction of the steppers (double pointer) for the display unit and the pulses of the stepper. Enter also the resolution or the type of the used A/D converter on the COSBC. It is also possible to enable an old Italian version 10 bit piggyback version in case the pneumatic and hydraulic transducers, the pedal and the inertia brakes are connected to the 10 bits converter (piggy-back). This field remains unoccupied provided these transducers are already connected. Select the SHOW VALUES points if weight, pneumatic pressure, pedal effort or braking power must be indicated on the display without activating the rollers. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 127 BRAKING TEST ROLLER BENCH _______________________________________________________________ 20.9 - Warnings It is possible to change the texts in the warning boxes as well as different definitions of the total evaluation. 20.10 - Headlines It is possible to change the definitions for the different screen pages. 128 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS _______________________________________________________________ BRAKING TEST ROLLER BENCH 20.11 - Extended The CB25 function activates the MCTC operation in the network connection by supplying to the unit all the functionalities belonging to the Equipment PC. To activate the functionality of the DIR software it is necessary to select the CB25 and CB26 functions. If the CB25 function is not selected, all the MCTC-Net part of the Software is not active, this can also be recognised from the fact that on the work sheet of the programme the F7 key is not active. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 129 BRAKING TEST ROLLER BENCH _______________________________________________________________ 21.0 - MAINTENANCE ATTENTION: Always turn off the main switch, padlock the switch before any maintenance intervention. Make sure that any guard removed for maintenance operations is correctly repositioned before reusing the instrument. Like every electromechanical device this instrument too needs some maintenance operations. The following maintenance operations have to be performed three weeks after the installation and, afterwards, every 3-6 months (depending on the number of performed tests). Check for the chains tension. In case the loosening exceeds 10 mm, stretch the chains (be careful not to stretch too much). Unloose the clamping bolts of the bearings and stretch the chains by acting on the clamping bolts of the bearings of the electric motors). Lubricate the chains, if possible with grease of the Molycote type. Screw all of the bolts. Check the proximity limit switches of the central rollers (safety rollers) and adjust the distance from the metal flags at 2 mm if necessary. Make sure the loading cells are fixed and correctly positioned. Every lateral or rotating movement of the loading cells in their housing has to be avoided. There must be a small clearance between the loading cell and the support. Check the cables connections and the components fixing (connectors, cards, etc.). 130 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS _______________________________________________________________ BRAKING TEST ROLLER BENCH 22.0 TROUBLE SHOOTING The instrument starts only once despite the selection of the automatic mode: The vehicle was already on the rollers set when the automatic button has been pressed. Consequently, the roller rotates only once for safety reasons. Rollers start rotating for a short period and then stop immediately: The RPM sensor on the safety roller is defective: apply to the service. The vehicle brought onto the rollers is not centered: lead the vehicle straight on the rollers. The displayed weight is too low: The brake test stand was loaded, for ex., with a vehicle at the instrument ignition. In this case restart the instrument by removing the load. One or more sensors of the calibration unit are defective or must be recalibrated: apply to the service. The brake test stand does not work after ignition by the main switch: Check the differential magneto-termic switch on the supply line. Check the safety fuses on the terminals trip of the power module.
