L’undicesima edizione del Concorso Fotografico Internazionale Giuliano Carrara è stata un punto di svolta
per la manifestazione, che nel 2016 ha celebrato i suoi primi venti anni di vita essendo nata nel 1996 con
carattere biennale.
Il Concorso è stato profondamente modificato per adeguarlo alle nuove tecnologie ed alle esigenze dei
fotografi che sono diventati sempre più evoluti quasi a livello professionale.
Sono scomparse le sezioni stampe B/N e colore ed il Concorso è diventato interamente digitale: la spedizione
del bando, l’invio delle opere, il pagamento delle quote di iscrizione, la comunicazione dei risultati, tutto è
avvenuto tramite Internet, facilitando sia il lavoro degli organizzatori che quello degli autori partecipanti.
Accanto alle tradizionali sezioni riguardanti il tema Libero e quello “Carta e Cartone” sono state aggiunte le
sezioni Natura e Viaggio e sono stati istituiti, oltre ai già esistenti Premi Speciali, molti riconoscimenti per
soggetti fotografici che abbiamo specificatamente indicato nelle sei sezioni.
Il risultato è stato l’invio record di ben 6.042 opere da parte di 315 autori, di cui 193 italiani (61%) e 122
stranieri (39%) da 35 Paesi, fatto quest’ultimo che ha confermato il carattere fortemente internazionale
della manifestazione.
Le opere ammesse sono state 1.674, pari al 28% di quelle pervenute, mentre quelle premiate sono state 160
pari al 10% di quelle ammesse.
Sono numeri importanti che non hanno comunque diminuito la qualità delle opere ricevute che, anzi, hanno
evidenziato una qualità e capacità tecnica molto elevate ed una fantasia degli autori, specialmente per il
tema Carta e Cartone, decisamente in aumento.
Il Vincitore del Concorso da questa edizione coincide con il Miglior Autore Fiap, cioè il fotografo con il
maggior numero di opere ammesse, ma, a dimostrazione delle sue eccezionali qualità, si è affermato per la
seconda volta consecutiva e per la terza nella storia della manifestazione, Giulio Montini di Casnate, Como.
Molti premi e riconoscimenti sono andati anche all’estero ed alla Cerimonia di Premiazione, svoltasi alla
presenza delle autorità cittadine e del Presidente della FIAP Riccardo Busi, abbiamo avuto la gradita
sorpresa della presenza di ben sei persone venute dall’estero.
Il tradizionale catalogo da questa edizione non viene più stampato ma sarà direttamente scaricabile dal sito
del Concorso con tutti i dati degli autori e delle opere ammesse e premiate insieme alle statistiche della
manifestazione.
Concludendo voglio ringraziare i membri delle giurie, gli sponsor e tutti coloro che hanno contribuito ad
organizzare il Concorso, in particolare l’amico Carlo Ciappi che ha scritto le motivazioni per le opere
premiate, il segretario del Concorso Giacomo Boccardi e naturalmente tutti gli autori che hanno inviato le
proprie opere.
Infine desidero sottolineare che il 100% del ricavato delle quote di iscrizione, pari a 5.191,66 euro, verrà
devoluto ad un progetto della Fondazione Un Raggio di Luce Onlus di Pistoia (www.unraggiodiluce.org) per
la lotta contro la malnutrizione dei bambini in Burkina­Faso.
Dò quindi appuntamento a tutti all’edizione 2018 e mi auguro che la partecipazione degli amici fotografi
aumenti ancora.

The 11th edition of the International Photographic Competition Giuliano Carrara has been a turning point
for the event, which in 2016 celebrates its first twenty years of life being born in 1996 with biennial
rhythm.
The competition was profoundly modified to adapt to new technologies and the needs of photographers who
have become increasingly advanced almost at a professional level.
B/W and color sections have disappeared, and the competition has become completely digital: the delivery of
the rules and works, the payment of the registration fees, the announcement of the results, everything is
done through internet facilitating both the work of the organizers and the one of the participating authors.
Alongside the traditional sections concerning the Free and the Paper and Cardboard subject, Nature and
Travel sections have been added, and have been established, in addition to existing Special Prizes, many
awards for photographic subjects that we have specifically indicated in the six sections.
The result was the record sending of properly 6,042 works by 315 authors, of which 193 Italians (61%) and
122 foreigners (39%) from 35 countries that has confirmed the strong international character of the event.
The admitted works have been 1,674, accounting for 28% of those received, while those awarded have been
160, equal to 10% of those admitted.
These are important numbers that have not, however, diminished the quality of the works received that,
indeed, have shown a very high quality and technical capacity and imagination of the authors, especially
for the Paper and Cardboard theme, significantly on the rise.
The Winner of the Competition from this edition coincides with the Best FIAP Author, that is, the
photographer with the highest number of admitted works, but, in demonstration of his exceptional
qualities, has emerged for the second time in a row and for the third in the history of the event Giulio
Montini of Casnate, Como.
Many awards and acknowledgments have also gone abroad and at the Prizegiving Ceremony, held in the
presence of the city authorities and the President of FIAP Riccardo Busi, we had the pleasant surprise of
the presence of six people who had come from abroad.
The traditional catalog from this edition is no longer printed but will be directly downloaded from the
Competition website with all the data of authors and admitted and awarded works together with the event
statistics.
By concluding I want to thank the members of the juries, the sponsors and everyone who helped organize
the Competition, especially the friend Carlo Ciappi who wrote the motivations for winning works, the
secretary of the Contest Giacomo Boccardi and of course all the authors who have sent their works.
Finally, I wish to underline that 100% of the proceeds of registration fees, amounting to 5,191.66 euro, will
be donated to a project of the Foundation Un Raggio di Luce Onlus in Pistoia (www.unraggiodiluce.org) for
the fight against malnutrition of children in Burkina Faso.
I invite everyone to the edition 2018 and I hope that the participation of photographers increases again.
