FLORENCE QUEER FESTIVAL 2010
lorence Queer Festival 2010: ottava edizione. Il viaggio nella cultura queer, organizzato da Ireos e Arcilesbica Firenze in collaborazione con Eventi srl, rinnova il
suo appuntamento, tra cinema, teatro, letteratura, fotografia e musica, all’insegna del
confronto interculturale, della passione e del divertimento, per scoprire tante opere dai
sapori più diversi, per tutti i gusti.
Opere che ci aiutano a capire che un altro mondo è possibile, anche per gay, lesbiche e trans, e lo possiamo costruire insieme, se ci crediamo. Opere in cui scorre la vita,
fatta di amore, dolore, impegno, ribellione, coraggio, gioia. Opere che vogliono aprire
una finestra sull’immaginario che circola per il mondo, per cambiare l’aria, talvolta un
po’ soffocante, di questo paese e contribuire a proiettare Firenze e la Toscana in uno scenario internazionale.
Il festival vuole essere quindi un luogo aperto al confronto interculturale – la circolazione della cultura queer fa bene alla convivenza civile - ma naturalmente anche uno
spazio dove il popolo LGBT possa ritrovarsi a casa, riconoscersi in un immaginario che
proviene da tutto il mondo, ridere e piangere di storie narrate e storie vissute, tra presente e passato, memoria e scoperta, per immaginare un futuro, che speriamo vicino,
di uguali diritti e uguali doveri. Le difficoltà e talvolta gli arretramenti, nelle lotte per
i diritti civili, sono soltanto battute d’arresto temporanee in un percorso che porterà,
anche nel nostro paese, verso una piena affermazione dei diritti per tutte e tutti i gay,
le lesbiche e trans.
Sfogliando ad uno ad uno i titoli del programma, come gustando i biscotti al cioccolato appena sfornati che vengono offerti nel manifesto 2010, sono tante le sorprese
che ci aspettano, all’interno di una rassegna che vuole offrire in primo luogo quel cinema di qualità a tematica queer che non riesce a trovare spazio nei normali canali di
distribuzione.
Al centro del festival ci sarà infatti, come tutti gli anni, l’immaginario cinematografico, con film provenienti dai principali festival del mondo, tutti in lingua originale con
sottotitoli in italiano, tutti inediti a Firenze, tra cui ci sono 6 anteprime italiane ed due
anteprime europee, ancora una volta ospitati nella più bella sala di Firenze, il cinema
Odeon. Molte opere saranno accompagnate dai loro autori e autrici, con i quali avremo
modo di discutere e confrontarci. I temi più ricorrenti nelle pellicole di quest’anno riguardano omossessualità e fede; gay, lesbiche e transgender in contesti rurali e di provincia più o meno profonda; omofobia e intolleranza; nord e sud del mondo con alcune
delle proposte più interessanti del nuovo cinema queer latinoamericano; nuove famiglie
e omogenitorialità come uno dei percorsi di vita più straordinariamente normali per le
persone lgbt; un’intera giornata organizzata in collaborazione con l’Assessorato al Diritto alla Salute della Regione Toscana su quello che ha significato e significa l’AIDS cercando di capire come mai 25 anni dopo l’edipemidia si sia trasformata in una convivenza
obbligata con la malattia. Per la prima volta quest’anno il Festival dedica una sezione
speciale dell’ottava edizione del VideoQueer sul tema dell’AIDS, della percezione del rischio e della sua prevenzione.
All’interno del Festival sono previsti anche numerosi altri appuntamenti: per Queer Art
la mostra Back on Marble di Francesco Astolfi (presso Ireos a partire dal 13 novembre);
Queer Theatre presenta al Teatro di Rifredi: Morning has broken con Vladimir Luxuria,
Benzina da Elena Stancanelli e Io non so chi sei di Angelo Savelli. Da non perdere le presentazioni di Queer Book presso Melbook, Ireos e Spazio Sandro Pestelli; l’appuntamento di Queer Music con il duo Fred Hersch & Nico Gori alla Sala Vanni e infine il Queer
Party con Rio Mezzanino in concerto al Viper Theatre.
Infine quest’anno vorremmo dedicare un affettuoso ricordo a Marcella di Folco, amica
che ci ha lasciato da poco, colonna del Movimento LGBTIQ italiano, e tenace combattente
che non ha mai perso di vista gli interessi della comunità e la concretezza delle azioni.

FLORENCE QUEER FESTIVAL 2009
lorence Queer Festival 2010: Eighth edition. The
week-long journey into queer culture, organized by
Ireos Arcilesbica and Florence in collaboration with Eventi
srl, renews his yearly appointment with cinema, theatre,
literature, photography and music. An appointment dedicated to intercultural dialogue, which aims to discover
with passion and fun so many works of so many different
flavours for all tastes.
Works that help us to understand that another world is
possible, even for gays, lesbians and transgender persons,
a world we can build together, if only we believe in it.
Works in which life goes by, with love, pain, commitment,
rebellion, courage and joy. Works who want to open a
window on the imaginary circulating the world, to change
the air, at times a bit stuffy and oppressive in this country and contribute to project Florence and Tuscany in an
international arena.
The festival wants to be a place open to intercultural
dialogue, but of course also a place where LGBT persons
can find themselves at home, through the identification
with an imagination that comes from all over the world,
laughing and crying at their stories and life stories, be-

tween past and present, memories and discoveries, and
imagining a future, we hope a near one, of equal rights
and equal obligations. The difficulties, and sometimes the
defeats, in the struggles for civil rights are only temporary setbacks in a path that will lead, in our country too,
to a full affirmation of rights for all, lesbians, gays and
transgender persons.
Looking through the titles of the program one by one,
as enjoying the freshly baked chocolate chip cookies that
are offered with a winking smile in the 2010 poster, there
are many surprises that await us, in a review that aims to
offer first quality queer cinema that finds no room in the
normal distribution channels.
For the third year in the magnificent frame of the most
beautiful cinema in town, the Odeon, the film imagination will be the core of the festival, with movies coming
from the main festivals around the world, all in mother
tongue with Italian subtitles, all inedited in Florence,
with 6 Italian Premiers, and 2 European Premieres. Authors, producers and moviemakers will attend the screenings and with them we will have the opportunity to
discuss and debate. The main themes of the films deal
with a number of relevant topics: homosexuality and religion, with a whole day focusing on the issue; the confrontation between different cultures with a focus on the
new Latin-American Queer Cinema; gay, lesbian and transgender persons in more or less remote rural and provincial contexts; homophobia, bullism and intolerance; same
sex-marriage and adoption as a common and normal
choice of life for LGBT persons. A whole day, organized in
cooperation with the Health Rights Department of Regione Toscana, is dedicated to HIV and AIDS, considering
what it meant in the past and what it means today, trying to understand why in 25 years the epidemic has
turned into a forced daily cohabitation with the disease.
For the first time this year the Festival dedicates a special section of the 8th edition of the VideoQueer short
competition to AIDS risk perception and prevention.
The festival presents many other events: Queer Art
with the exhibit Back on Marble by Francesco Astolfi;
Queer Theatre with three plays at the Teatro di Rifredi:
Morning has broken with Vladimir Luxuria, dedicated to
the memory of Matthew Shepard; Benzina based on the
novel by Elena Stancanelli; Io non so chi sei by Angelo
Savelli with Gennaro Cannavacciuolo based on four tales
by Giancarlo Pastore. Not to be missed Queer Music, presenting the jazz duo Fred Hersch & Nico Gori at the Sala
Vanni, and, least but not last, the final Queer party with
the Rio Mezzanino in concert at the Viper Theatre.
Finally, we would like to share with you some fond
memories of Marcella di Folco, a dear friend who left us
a short while ago, a pillar of the Italian LGBTIQ Movement, a tenacious fighter who never lost sight of the interests of the whole community through the concreteness
of actions.

distratta fotografa Lola (Ashleigh Sumner), al vertice del successo sia sul lavoro che in
amore, corra il rischio di perdere entrambi se non riesce ad arrivare in tempo ad un cruciale incontro. Ma, come al solito, Lola è in ritardo. Al telefono con la sua nuova splendida ragazza e per lavoro, Lola ha tre opportunità di fare la cosa giusta. In una disperata

Ellen Seidler
Produttrice, regista, sceneggiatrice, è giornalista televisiva da oltre 30 anni. Ellen ha
anche prodotto, diretto e lavorato come direttore della fotografia in molti film e documentari indipendenti. Tra questi il premiato “Fighting for Our Lives-Facing AIDS in San
Francisco” e il corto erotico “Et l’Amour”.
Megan Siler
Produttrice, regista, sceneggiatrice è stata più volte premiata per la produzione di
lungometraggi e documentari. Il suo film più recente, “Toxic Bust: Chemicals and Breast Cancer“, ha vinto il prestigioso Cine Golden Eagle Award, e viene utilizzato da attivisti nella tutela dell’ambiente e nella prevenzione del cancro al seno in tutti gli USA.
Megan ha vinto il Emerging Talent Award al Los Angeles Outfest per il suo lungometraggio “The Midwife’s Tale“.
In this time-bending, sexy, lesbian romp, with an irreverent nod to the popular art-house classic ”Run, Lola,
Run”– a talented, but distracted photographer, Lola, (Ashleigh Sumner) on the verge of success in both love and
work, could lose it all if she doesn’t make it to a crucial
meeting on time. But, as usual, Lola is late. With her job
and girlfriend Casey (Jill Bennett) on the line, she has
three chances to make it right. In a mad dash through the
streets and backrooms of San Francisco, time grows short–
will Lola make it? Will she come at all? Co-Directed by Ellen

Producer/Director/Story-is a 30-year broadcast journalism and film veteran. Ellen has also produced/directed/ and
worked as a cinematographer on a variety of independent
film and documentary projects. Her directing credits include
the award-winning documentary “Fighting for Our Lives-Facing AIDS in San Francisco” and the lesbian erotic short “Et
L’Amour” which screened in LGBT film festivals.
Megan Siler:
Producer/Director/Story/Screenwriter- is an award-winning producer of both fiction and documentary films. Her
most recent film, “Toxic Bust: Chemicals and Breast Cancer”, won the prestigious Cine Golden Eagle Award, and is
being used by environmental health and breast cancer advocates around the country. Megan won the Emerging Talent Award from the Los Angeles Outfest for her feature
length film “The Midwife’s Tale”.

ander
Ander è una storia intima, che ritrae un contadino basco oltre la quarantina a cavallo
del ventesimo secolo. Ander vive una vita monotona che si svolge tra il suo lavoro in
una fabbrica di biciclette e i suoi doveri di contadino divisi con la sorella e la anziana
madre. La sua vita inizia a cambiare quando a causa di un incidente, nonostante la sua
riluttanza e la contrarietà della madre, ha bisogno di assumere un assistente peruviano,
Josè. La presenza del nuovo arrivato senza volerlo altera i rapporti tra Ander, i suoi parenti ed i conoscenti. Quando Ander riconosce che sta cominciando a nutrire sentimenti
profondi verso José, deve decidere se vuole trasformare la sua vita per includerlo o no.
Ander è stato realizzato grazie al supporto di Berdindu, in servizio del Dipartimento
alla casa e agli affari sociali del Governo Basco che lavora con la comunità GLBTI. (59

Roberto Castón
Nato a La Coruña nel 1973, si laurea in Filologia ispanica e Studi presso l’Università di
Santiago de Compostela. Successivamente continua i suoi studi nel Centre d’Estudis Cinematogràfics de Catalunya, dove si diploma in Regia Cinematografica. È autore e regista di
diversi cortometraggi proiettati in festival in tutto il mondo: “Ilusión Óptica” (2001), “La
Pasion sugún Ateo delle Nazioni Unite (sitcom)” (2004), “Maricon” (2005) e “Los requisitos de Nati” (2007). “Ander” è il suo primo lungometraggio. Roberto è il direttore del
Bilbao GLBT Festival Internazionale del Cinema dalla sua prima edizione nel 2004.
Ander is an intimate story which portrays a Basque contryman well into his forties at the turn of the twentieth century. He lives a monotonous life that takes place between
his work in a bicycle factory and his peasant duties shared
with his sister and their elder mother. His life starts to
change when due to an accident he needs to hire a Peruvian helper, Josè. The newcomer’s presence alters unintentionally the relationships between Ander, his relatives and
acquaintances. When Ander acknowledges that he is developing deep feelings towards José, he has to decide whether
he will transform his life to include him or not.

Roberto Castón
Born in the city of La Coruña in 1973, he got a degree
in Philology and Hispanic Studies from the University of
Santiago de Compostela. After that, he continued his studies in the Centre d’Estudis Cinematogràfics de Catalunya,
where he got a Diploma in Cinematographic Direction. Cinema has become his full time occupation for the past six
years. He is author and director of several short films:
“Ilusión óptica” (2001), “La pasion sugún un ateo (sitcom)” (2004), “Maricón” (2005) and “Los requisitos de
nati” (2007). All of them have been screened in Film Festivals throughout the world. “Ander” is his first feature
film. His is the director of Bilbao GLBT International Film
Festival since its first edition in 2004.

Siamo nella New York gay “bear”, dove un gruppo di amici si sta preparando per una
mega festa che si svolgerà nel weekend, tra sesso, vicende comiche, e al contempo dolci
e sentimentali. BearCity racconta le avventure di Tyler, timido ventunenne, e dei suoi
amici “orsi e orsacchiotti” mentre si stanno preparando per il grande party. Tra una storia e l’altra si delineano le dinamiche del gruppo di amici: Tyler ha messo gli occhi su
Roger, il più sexy e narcisistico orso muscoloso della regione, mentre nello stesso tempo
si trova al centro di un confuso triangolo amoroso con i suoi compagni di stanza Fred
e Bent, una coppia monogama che sta riflettendo sulla possibilità di diventare o meno
una coppia aperta. Aggiungendo un gruppetto di amici pieni di problemi sentimentali,
si ha il quadro completo delle molteplici romantiche avventure dei protagonisti di BearCity. Lo sceneggiatore Lawrence Ferber ha dichiarato che il film è la storia della sua
vita, delle sue esperienze e dei suoi amici, che si identificano tutti come “orsi”, per questo hanno preferito scegliere attori che sono in maggioranza gay: “Sono sicuro di aver

Douglas Langway
Ha scritto, prodotto e diretto Raising Heroes (1996), il primo film d’azione gay. Heroes è stato premiato numerosi festival ed è stato distribuito nelle sale, e in televisione. Attualmente è co-fondatore e CEO degli Sharpleft Studios, agenzia digitale con
base a Manhattan specializzata in intrattenimento cinematografico on-line. BearCity
rappresenta il suo secondo film come regista.
BearCity is Queer As Folk meets Sex in the City — only
with more hair and tons of hot bear-on-bear action! Closet
cub Tyler fantasizes about stuffing Santa’s stocking and
finding a Daddy bear to do more than cuddle. But as he
dives into the bear community, he finds that it can be hard
for a hairless guy to get some fuzzy loving. Scene stealers
Brent and Fred are the maybe-not-so-monogamous couple
who invite him to move in as they figure out how to spice
things up. Southern bear-belle Michael struggles to juggle
his lover, his job search and his body image issues, but an
embarrassing wardrobe malfunction might solve all three.
Rakish Roger is the stud-about-town, and he’ll pretty much
bang (on screen) anyone with facial hair. That is, until an
awesomely awkward encounter at the local bowling alley
challenges both his bowling prowess and his bear-loving
mojo. Add to that some adorable eye-candy, an indispensable fairy-god-roommate, beer busts and “stroller meat,”
and BearCity makes for a quirky, beartastic summertime
romp.
Douglas Langway
Wrote, produced and directed Raising Heroes (1996),
the first gay action film. Heroes was awarded numerous
festival prizes and was released theatrically, saw a worldwide DVD and Television release. Currently, he is co-founder
and CEO of Sharpleft Studios, a Manhattan-based digital
agency specializing in online filmed entertainment.
BearCity represents his second feature film as director.

Una discreta dose di ironia e un cast perfetto per una classica storia di amore impossibile. Una serata in discoteca, i sogni di una ragazza che si infrangono. Però ormai
ci si è cascati e ci piace addirittura Laura Pausini, anche se l’abbiamo sempre detestata.
Ma se si hanno amiche vere che ti incoraggiano, e sei a Torino, allora nulla diventa impossibile. (25° Torino GLBT International Film festival, premio del pubblico, miglior cortometraggio).

Nata a Torino nel 1970, è ricercatrice persso l’Istituto Nazionale di Economia Agraria, Fa parte del gruppo torinese BADhOLE, nato nel 2001 con lo scopo di affrontare i
più svariati temi sociali di attualità utilizzando il formato del cortometraggio comico e
del documentario, come Sarò flessibile con te (2005), Tutto su mia sorella (2005), Cavolini a Bruxelles (2005), È femmina o no? (2006), Guerra e Pacs (2006), Gli eroi di Casamiya (2007), Adele e le altre (2008).

Silvia Novelli
Born in Turin in 1970, is a researcher at the National Institute of Agriculture Economics (Istituto Nazionale di
Economia Agraria). She is a manber of the Turin’s BADhOLE group, fonde in 2001 to develop a creative approach
to a wide range of community issue. Their formats of
choice are comic short film and documentary: Sarò
flessibile con te (2005), Tutto su mia sorella (2005),
Cavolini a Bruxelles (2005), È femmina o no? (2006),
Guerra e Pacs (2006), Gli eroi di Casamiya (2007), Adele

Corpo giusto è la storia di Antonia, della sua amica Grazia, e delle sfide che devono

Jennifer Norton
È nata a Denver nel 1971. Si è laureata alla Tisch school of the arts presso la New
York University. Inizia la sua carriera come attrice teatrale. A New York crea una compagnia teatrale off-off Broadway: The Actors Circle. Successivamente esplora il mondo
del cinema e della televisione non solo da attrice ma anche come regista e produttrice.
Produce il Domani Vision Film Festival e cura la prima edizione del 5x5 New York State
of Mind DV Project. È assistente di produzione presso la Productions Lovett e la B3. Da
cinque anni Jennifer risiede a Firenze dove, con il marito, ha creato una piccola casa
di produzione video: la Apple & Olive. Qui, oltre a insegnare recitazione ha collaborato
con Performance International, Arteriosa, Films D7, Productions TNC, Mark Studio, TVKey,
E-ducation, Bottega Cinema, e H Production. È uno dei membri fondatori della In The
Gutter Productions di Londra.
Corpo giusto is the story of Antonia, of her friend Grazia,
and the challenges they confront together when their sexuality is put into question one evening out amongst friends
in Florence. It’s a story about friendship, love, sexuality,
and the courage to be your self.
Jennifer Norton
Born in Denver in 1971. She graduated from the Tisch
School of the Arts at New York University and began his
career as a stage actress. In New York she creates n offoff Broadway theater company a: The Actors Circle. Then
Jennifer explores the world of cinema and television not
only as actress but also as a director and producer. She
produces theTomorrow Vision Film Festival and organizes
of the first edition of the New 5x5 York State of Mind DV
Project. She is production assistant at Lovett Productions
and B3. Based for five years in Florence, where Jennifer
lives with her husband, she creates a small video production company: Apple & Olive. Here, in addition to teaching
acting, Jennifer has partnered with Performance International, Hypertension, films D7, TNC Productions, Mark Studio, TVKey, E-ducation, Bottega Cinemas, and H
Production. She is a founding member of In The Gutter Productions in London.

Nel paradiso naturale delle Bahamas la mentalità vacanziera degli occidentali agiati
e progressisti contrasta con quella locale, maschilista e prevaricatrice. Una mentalità
esemplificata nel film dal reverendo Mackey, violento e prepotente per cinico calcolo politico (“Io non odio voi gay - dice a un ragazzo con il quale si intratteneva - ma bisogna dare alla gente qualcosa da odiare: li fa sentire uniti”) e brutale anche verso sua
moglie, Lena. Attivista antigay, Lena agisce nella presuntuosa e ingenua convinzione di

Dopo aver completato gli studi in medicina, JavierFuentes Leon si trasferisce a Los Angeles dove ottiene un Master in regia al California Institute of the Arts (CalArts). Il suo

After completing his studies in medicine, JavierFuentes
Leon moved to Los Angeles where he obtained a Masters in
directing at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts). His
short Espacios was honored in 1997 by the National Film
Board of Peru (CONACINE) and is recognized by the Peruvian film magazine The Grand Ilusión as “The best product
of a Peruvian director in the nineties.” In 2003 he starts to
write Contracorriente led by John August (writer of Tim Burton) and John Cooper (program director of the Sundance
Festival): In 2005, thanks to a grant from the Fundación
Carolina of Spain for his screenwriting course, Javier completed the project and received several prizes and awards.

film. Come lesbica iraniana io penso che un film sia il modo migliore per far conoscere
la difficile vita delle lesbiche nel mio paese. Questo film contiene scene di sesso lesbico
che sarebbero prove sufficienti per farmi ottenere la pena di morte se rientrassi in Iran.

Kiana, an Iranian lesbian who had left iran to avaid of
getting arrested meets Sayeh, a journalist and activist,

issue in the UK. Kiana begins to study here and sayeh tries
to collect some information about the controversial subject of Iranian homosexulas’lives through Kiana who was
formerly trying to make an underground documentary with
her friends about miseries that lesbians are suffering in
Iran. Although she could not get this film completed but
also her information so far has remained unpublished. The
heart warming tale of trust builds up between Kiana and
Sayeh centred around the recent uprisings in Iran along
with series of incidents which has made Kiana to collaborate with the opposition that resulted in Kiana to claim
asylum in the United Kingdom and…

Mario 50 anni e il suo compagno Valter 46 anni, vivono in coppia da più di 25 anni.
Due anni fa decidono che era giunto il momento di rendere finalmente stabile e “ufficiale” il loro rapporto e, visto che in Italia non è possibile contrarre un matrimonio civile, vanno in Spagna e si sposano lì. Poi è arrivato abbastanza naturale il desiderio di
diventare padri, ci pensavano già prima di sposarsi. Volevano e vogliono diventare genitori, creare una famiglia, così Mario e Valter iniziano a sondare diverse possibilità,
prima fra tutte quella dell’adozione, ma è un percorso che si rivela troppo complicato.
Alla fine optano per la pratica della “maternità surrogata”. In California attraverso Surrogate Alternatives iniziano le procedure per diventare genitori, ma i primi tentativi non
vanno a buon fine. Mario e Valter non si scoraggiano e decidono di andare avanti. Al
quarto tentativo la gravidanza procede regolarmente… Il documentario girato nell’arco
di un anno segue Mario e Valter nel loro percorso verso la genitorialità, tra l’Italia e la
California, desideri, sogni e paure.
Renato Pugina (Varese1957)
Laureato nel 1991 con una tesi sulla “Tv dei ragazzi” in Discipline delle Arti della Musica e dello Spettacolo (DAMS) di Bologna, è da sempre appassionato di teatro, cinema
e linguaggi della comunicazione. Dal 1990 inizia a collaborare con Televisione della
svizzera italiana per la quale a tutt’oggi ha realizzato svariati reportage e documentari.
Mario, 50, and his partner Valter, 46, are living together
for more than 25 years. Two years ago they decided it was
about the time to finally make their relationship “officially” stable and, since in Italy it is not possible for same
sex couples to contract a civil marriage, they went to Spain
and married there. Then it was quite a natural desire to become fathers, so Mario and Walter begin to explore different possibilities, first of all adoption, but it was a journey
that proved to be too complicated. At the end they opt for
the practice of “surrogacy.” In California through Surrogate Alternatives the procedures to become parents begin,
but the first attempts are unsuccessful. Mario and Valter
are not discouraged and decide to keep on. At the fourth
attempt the pregnancy proceeds regularly... The documentary, filmed over a year, follows Mario and Valter on their
path to parenthood, between Italy and California.
Renato Pugina (Varese 1957)
Graduated in 1991 with a thesis on “Tv dei ragazzi” in
Music and Performing Arts (DAMS) in Bologna, has always
been passionate about theatre, film and communication
languages. From 1990 he begins to work with the Swiss
Italian Television for which to date has produced several reports and documentaries.

Tatiana Issa
Nata a São Paulo in Brasile, è cresciuta in Europa e ha iniziato a recitare fin dall’età

quella a O Guarani (1996) di Norma Bengell. Come produttrice e regista ha collaborato
al programma tv “Nova York Underground”, al corto Medusa e al documentario Parintis.
Dzi Croquettes è il suo primo film.
Raphael Alvarez
Nato in Brasile esordisce giovanissimo come attore di soap opera, trasferendosi poi
a New York dove studia recitazione. Partecipa a numerosi musical di Broadway e realizza
pellicole come A Fronteira, Medusa, Parintis e I am still here. Dzi Croquettes è il suo
esordio alle regia di un lungometraggio.
The Dzi Croquettes were a groundbreaking dance and
theater group who used their talent and a mix of humor
and derision to challenge the violent dictatorship that
gripped Brazil in the 1970s. Creating a new stage language
that would influence an entire generation, this theatre
group revolutionized the gay movement despite being
banned and censored by the military regime. Through interviews and archival footage of the group’s incredible performances, directors Raphael Alvarez and Tatiana Issa
reveal the origin of the group, their relentless perfectionism, and their unexpected stroke of luck when Liza Minnelli becomes a godmother of sorts to them. However, it
also gives a very honest account of the sadness of their
final years when tension, egos, AIDS, and even murder
ripped them apart.

Tatiana Issa
Born in São Paulo, Brazil, but spent most of her childhood years in Europe. The daughter of a set designer, Tatiana started her acting career at the early age of 7; doing

Brazilian - French coproduction of the classic “The

In the late ‘60s, when he is already a world-renowned
film-maker Federico Fellini meets by accident, on the set of
a movie that is about to end, a face so attractive that he
decides to recruit and use in the film instead of another
actor. It is so, almost with a shock, which begins the cinema adventure of Marcello di Falco, later Marcella Di Folco.
Marcella was the founder of the Transsexual Identity Movement and an early-hour activist of the Italian LGBTQI
movement. She recently passed away, and this year’s Florence Queer Festival is dedicated to her. In this documentary, Gian Luca Farinelli, Director of Film Library of
Bologna, interviews the woman who played six characters
in many films, among them that of the Prince in Fellini’s
Amarcord whom is addressed by Magali Noel the famous
“Gradisca ...”

Started her film career at CBS (WTVR-TV), working as a
Camera Operator for the evening news. In 2001, she moved
to Chicago where she worked as a freelancer on music
videos and independent films. Ky produced two independent films including Range Life written and directed by
Robert Trondson and Ante Meridiem written and directed
by Russ Blemker. Her videography career has included filming a variety of live musicians. Ky has also produced spots
for some of the most renowned advertisers in the world.
Fish Out of Water is a personal project that Ky has been
crafting for the past three years under the umbrella of her
own production company, Yellow Wing Productions.

È nato a Genova ma vive a Londra da quindici anni, dove lavora come designer, illustratore e animatore. Si occupa della creazione di pacchetti grafici e di sigle televisive

per pubblicazioni di vario tipo. Nel 2005 ha creato la striscia a fumetti Gus & Waldo,
spassosa cronaca (in parte autobiografica) della vita di coppia di due pinguini gay,
molto popolare in Gran Bretagna e tradotta in cinque lingue. Con la versione animata,

Gus and Waldo, live with joy and enthusiasm their relationship of mutual fidelity, but modern life continually puts
a strain on their love. They face daily neuroses who put
their relationship at risk: Are we thin enough? Are we beautiful enough? Do we read the right magazines? Do we
watch the right movies? Do we satisfy our partners? And
what about work? And Money?. Gus and Waldo, through
their adventures, expose the dangers and obsessions not
only of gay people but of the whole society.
Massimo Fenati
Born in Genoa (Italy), but has lived in London for 15
years. He’s a designer, illustrator and animator, produces
graphic packages and title sequences for TV programmes
for BBC and Channel 4, creates album covers and editorial
illustrations for a number of publications. In 2005 he
started his successful series of humour books on the semiautobiographical adventures of Gus & Waldo, a couple of
gay penguins in love. The books have been translated in 5
languages and published in several countries. With the animation based on these comics, he won the Sub-Ti Short
competition at the 2009 Venice Film Festival. His new
short, The Gus & Waldo Show has just won the audience
“popularity” award at the IRIS Animation Festival in Rio
de Janeiro.

Hannah e Rachel sono cresciute da bambine nella stessa piccola città dove le tradizionali aspettative sui generi diventarono alla fine una sfida per il profondo amore che

forte ma tranquilla casalinga sposata ad un educatore religioso. In una casa di riposo
dei nostri giorni ad Hannah è proibito di visitare Rachel ormai in coma, con la scusa che

Regista, sceneggiatrice e fotografa, laureata in Film/Media alla University of Illinois

sulle donne e la politica dell’orgasmo”, il documentario a sfondo familiare If We Left This
Room e il lungometraggio corale Brushfires, presentati al Sundance Film Festival e proiettati all’American Film Institute.
Claudia Allen adapts her own play detailing the
decades-long love affair between a butch lesbian and a
religious housewife for the screen in a film directed by
Wendy Jo Carlton. The story begins in a nursing home,
where an elderly Hannah (Sharon Gless) has been forbidden from visiting Rachel, the love of her life. Rachel is in
a coma, and since Hannah is not family, she is refused
entrance into her longtime lover’s room. As Hannah’s
memories drift gently back into the past, she recalls her
relationship with Rachel, which began when they were just
young girls. Just when it begins to look as if Hannah will
never see Rachel again, a sympathetic student offers to
help her circumvent the traditional hospital rules regarding visitors. In the process of attempting to get one last

Frank, an irrepressible in-your-face gay teenager, is fed up
with his small-minded suburban environment and, with a
couple of friends, escapes to Amsterdam. It’s not long before
he is swept up by the Bacchanalian delights of the early 80s
and after a few missteps, ends up in a male brothel where he
falls for the apparently straight Jake. The motley crew he encounters become his de facto family, his safe harbour from
the storms that gather; real family, AIDS , love and growing
up. There are two films in Schlim’s pan-European story. The
first is a (graphic, explicit) coming out story, intriguing in itself. The second is a bold attempt to revisit a savage epoch
when HIV was still a ‘gay cancer’, AIDS activism in its infancy
and the reality of a generation of lives lost still a far-off fiction. Schlim’s film is his homage to friends and lost loves, his
Magnus Opus, an attempt to contextualise the express train
madness of a decade that began in hope and ended in anger
and fear. The serious messages of the film are offset by a superb 80s soundtrack, a recognisable backdrop of clubs, free
sex, terrible fashion and very bad hair.

A graduate from film school in Paris, Jean-Claude worked
for many years in the Luxembourg film industry as a line or
executive producer. Some of his international credidits include Peter Greenaway “8 ½ women) Elias Merhige’s

Ten years later, the French director Jean-Jacques Zibermann goes back to the story of Simon Eskenazy (Antoine

L’ Homme est une femme comme les autres. Simon falls in
love with Naïm (Mehdi Dehbi), an Arab transgender who
works as a waitress at the Paradise. When the plaintive sick
mother move in Simon’s house in Château Rouge, the colorful and lively Parisian African neighborhood, the volcanic
Naïm masquerading as a nurse moves as well at his lover’s,
so to continuing undisturbed the relationship with Simon
and simultaneously to try to get into the woman. To com-
plicate things Rosalie (Elsa Zylberstein), the former wife of
Simon, comes from New York with their son who has ten
years: the woman tells him he is about to get married
again… Zibermann and co-writer Antoine Lacomblez have
written a delightful, bittersweet comedy that plays on the
misunderstandings of Naïm sexual ambiguity made (Mehdi
Dehbi was chosen for the role out of three hundred candidates for the grace and emotion he transmits) and deals
with the themes of transgender identity, homosexual parenthood, and Jewish tradition with grace and freshness.

Nato nel 1966 a Pilar de la Horadada, un villaggio vicino Alicante dove suo padre possedeva una delle due sale cinematografiche del paese. Ha lavorato come assistente di
produzione e realizzato vari cortometraggi. Nel 1998 realizza il suo lungometraggio
d’esordio “La primera noche de mi vida” come parte del Arte’s millennium project “2000
seen by…”. Ha partecipato alla Berlinale nel 2000 con il film per bambini “Manolito Gafotas” e ancora nel 2005 con “Cachorro”(Cucciolo d’orso) proiettato nella sezione Panorama della Berlinale.
Flora, 72, is an old spinster. She lives in a small village
and has spent her whole life looking after her relatives. Her
only sister died young leaving Flora with three nieces to
raise. As soon as they reached adulthood her nieces all left
the village. Flora is beginning to worry. It’s coming to a time
when the three young women should be looking after her
and Flora is afraid that she’ll be carted off to the old people’s home where one of the nieces works. Her salvation is
Purita, who has stood by her over the years; she is the only
person whom Flora accepts as a member of the family.

Oil City, Pennsylvania, una depressa cittadina industriale nel cuore dell’America rurale.
Quel tipo di città che Barak Obama aveva in mente quando fece il suo terribile commento
sui tristi residenti delle piccole città, aggrappati al fucile e alla religione mentre guardano il resto del mondo che gli sta passando accanto. La pace e la tranquillità vengono
sconvolte quando il regista Joe Wilson, residente a Washington ma originario di Oil City,

A gray winter sky hangs over lonely city streets, rusted
oil derricks, and falling-down factories. Welcome to Oil City,
Pa., a fading industrial town in the heart of the American
rustbelt. Oil City is the type of town that President Obama
had in mind when he made his now infamous comments
about bitter small town residents clinging to their religion
and prejudices. Oil City is ignited by a firestorm of controversy when Joe Wilson, filmmaker and Oil City native, announces his same-sex marriage in the local newspaper. The
announcement catches the attention of Kathy Springer, a
local woman whose gay teenage son, C.J., is being brutally
abused at school. With nowhere else to turn, Springer seeks
help from Wilson—the only openly gay person she knows
from the town. With camera in hand, Wilson and his partner, Dean Hamer, return to Oil City to engage with traditional values activists, conservative politicians, local
leadership, and townsfolk. Out in the Silence takes viewers on a very personal journey through rural America as the
battle over gay visibility and equality unfolds over a threeyear period. The film portrays, with emotion and candor
from all sides, the ongoing struggle for justice and equality in rural communities across America, and it depicts the
change that is possible when people search for what they
have in common rather than what sets them apart.

la prima marcia gay 30 anni dopo
Il 24 novembre 1979 si svolge a Pisa una manifestazione che è un’assoluta novità per
l’Italia: la prima marcia nazionale tutta omosessuale, autorizzata dalla questura, con la
partecipazione del Comune di Pisa. Il corteo ha un insperato successo, con centinaia di
gay e trans da tutta Italia, a viso scoperto: la città è in buona parte solidale, in parte
attonita e in alcuni momenti ostile. In un alternarsi di ricordi personali e riflessioni di
carattere politico, di passato e presente, di immagini dei giorni nostri e esclusivo materiale d’epoca, dodici tra partecipanti e organizzatori rievocano la nascita, il significato, le conseguenze sulle loro vite e sulla comunità gay di una giornata dalla portata
storica. Il video è stato realizzato in occasione delle celebrazioni del trentennale dal
primo corteo del movimento LGBT italiano, che si sono svolte a Pisa a novembre 2009.

Il “Comitato Pisa ‘79”, composto da studiosi e appassionati della cultura queer, è
nato all’inizio del 2009 e, oltre ad aver prodotto il video Pisa 1979-2009-La prima marcia gay 30 anni dopo, ha organizzato dal 25 al 28 novembre 2009 a Pisa una mostra ed
un convegno sullo stesso tema. Il Comitato non ha fini di lucro, è autonomo ed ha lo
scopo di promuovere una cultura della memoria storica GLBT indispensabile per rafforzare il presente ed affermare pari diritti.
On November 24th, 1979 was held in Pisa, an event that
was a novelty for Italy, the first national Pride, authorized
by the police, with the participation of the Municipality of
Pisa. The parade was an unexpected success, with hundreds
of gays and transgenders from all over Italy, with unveiled
face: the city is largely supportive, partly amazed and at
times hostile. In a succession of personal memories and
reflections of a political nature, past and present, pictures
of our day and exclusive material of the period, twelve of
the participants and organizers recall the birth, the meaning, the consequences on their lives and on the gay community, the historical significance of the day. The video
was made for the celebration of the 30th anniversary of
the first parade of the Italian LGBT movement, which took
place in Pisa in November 2009.
Pisa ‘79 Committee
The “Pisa ‘79 Committee, composed of scholars and fans
of queer culture, was born in early 2009 and, in addition
to producing the video Pisa 1979-2009- The first gay march
30 years later, organised between November 25th and 28th
2009 in Pisa, an exhibition and a conference on this
theme. The Committee is not profit, is autonomous and
has the aim of promoting the culture of GLBT historical
memory, required to affirm equal rights.

Una moderna storia d’amore ambientata fra terrazze, palestre e appartamenti della

È nato in Argentina 30 anni fa da un padre norvegese. Ha studiato diversi anni teatro con Julio Chavez. Nel 2001 si trasferisce in Norvegia, e dopo tre riceve una borsa di
studio norvegese per studiare alla Universidad del Cine di Buenos Aires. Durante gli
stufi e vincitore di molti concorsi per sceneggiature originali. Il suo secondo corto “The
Watch” è stato selezionato nel 2008 dalla Cinefondation nel concorso ufficiale della Festival di Cannes. È stato anche selezionato al Sundance Film Festival nel Gennaio 2009.
“Plan B”, il suo primo lungometraggio, è stato presentato alla 11 ° BAFICI a Buenos

Bruno (Manuel Vignau) is dumped by his girlfriend (Mercedes Quinteros); behind a calm, indifferent expression,
his mind plans a cold, sweet vengeance. She, a modern
girl, keeps on seeing him once in a while, but has another
boyfriend, Pablo (Lucas Ferraro). Bruno becomes Pablo’s
friend, with the idea of eroding the couple, maybe introducing him to another woman. But, along the way, the
possibility of a plan B arises, a more effective one, which

Marco Berger
Born in Argentina 30 years ago from a Norwegian father. He studied theater several years with Julio Chavez.
In 2001 he moved to Norway, and after three years he received a Norwegian scholarship to study in the Univesidad
del Cine in Buenos Aires. He succeeded in winning many
short scripts contest during his university years. His second short “The Watch” was selected in 2008 by the Cinefondation in the official competition of the Cannes Film
Festival. It was also selected at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2009. “Plan B”, his first feature film, was
presented at the 11th BAFICI in Buenos Aires in March
2009 and in Rome Film Festival 2009.

Postcard to Daddy è la storia autobiografica degli abusi sessuali subiti dal regista Michael Stock da parte del padre. Venticinque anni dopo mette a confronto suo padre e la
sua famiglia con la storia della sua vita. Facendo questo il regista indaga sugli aspetti
più reconditi di una famiglia liberale e di sinistra dove gli abusi sessuali sembravano
inimmaginabili. Eppure ci sono stati e proseguiti per anni. Sebbene siano passati tanti
anni, Michael, non ha ancora superato i sentimenti di colpa e di vergogna per quei fatti
traumatici. Conversando con i fratelli e la madre Margret comprende le drammatiche
conseguenze di quegli avvenimenti sull’intera famiglia. Michael ci racconta anche i particolari della sua vita da adulto, una vita trascorsa sempre all’ombra dei traumi infantili. Ci parla dei suoi problemi, della promiscuità e di come ora debba convivere con

Michael Stock
Nato a Steinhöring in Baviera il 24 marzo 1968, si trasferisce a Berlino nel 1987. Regista, sceneggiatore, produttore e attore, inizia la sua carriera come scenografo e production designer. A metà anni novanta inizia a lavorare come attore, apparendo anche
in produzioni internazionali. Ha fatto il suo debutto alla regia nel 1993 con “Prinz in

film Fucking Different Berlin nel 2005.
Postcard to Daddy tells the autobiographical story of
sexual abuse experienced between the ages of eight and
sixteen by the filmmaker Michael Stock at the hands of
his own father. Twenty-five years later he confronts his father and his family with this past – before a rolling camera. In doing so, the director digs deep into the history of
his left-wing-liberal family in which sexual abuse would
seem unimaginable. And yet a transgression did occur,
which subsequently turned into years of sexual abuse. Yet
time and again feelings of guilt and shame have forced
Michael Stock to confront his traumatic past. In conversations with his siblings and his mother Margret, he learns
what consequences their family drama has had – and still
has – for them today. Michael Stock also provides an insight into the extremes of his own life – a life that is still
overshadowed by his childhood trauma. He discusses his
shame, his feelings of guilt, his promiscuity and how he
now lives with HIV. A heart attack in autumn 2007
prompts him to broach the subject of his trauma once
again. On a trip to Thailand he decides to make Postcard
to Daddy, a video message to his father.
Michael Stock
Born in Steinhöring near Munich on 24.3.1968, he
moved to Berlin in 1987. A screenwriter, director, producer
and actor, he began his career as a set dresser and production designer. He began working as an actor in the midnineties, also appearing in international productions. He
made his directorial debut in 1993 with “Prinz in Hölleland, subsequently directing features for the TV magazine
programme ‘Liebe Sünde’ from 1994-98. He was one of the
contributors to the film Fucking different in 2005.

Bobby Griffith was his mother’s favorite son, the perfect
all-American boy growing up under deeply religious influences in Walnut Creek, California. Bobby was also gay.
Struggling with a conflict no one knew of much less understood Bobby finally came out to his family. Despite the
tentative support of his father, two sisters, and older
brother, Bobby’s mother, Mary (three time Academy Award
nominee and Golden Globe winner Sigourney Weaver),
turned to the fundamentalist teachings of her church to
rescue her son from what she felt was an irredeemable sin.
As Mary came closer to the realization that Bobby could
not be “healed,” she rejected him, denying him a mother’s
unconditional love, and driving her favorite son to suicide.
For Mary Griffith, it’s the beginning of a long and emotional journey that extended beyond acceptance to her viable role a vocal advocate for gay and lesbian youth. In
1996, twelve years after Bobby’s death, she was invited to
address the Congress of the United States, establishing her
as a major force in the fight for human rights.
Russell Mulcahy
Australian film director. His work is easily recognized by
his use of fast cuts, tracking shots and use of glowing
lights. In the mid-1980s Mulcahy was one of the most
sought-after video makers in the world, directing videos for
some of the most successful pop-rock acts (The Human
League, The Tubes, Elton John, Ultravox, most of the major
hits of Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet, Kim Carnes, Bonnie
Tyler, Rod Stewart, Billy Joel, The Motels, Supertramp and
The Rolling Stones). Among is feature films Highlander
(1986), Highlander II: The Quickening (1991), Resident
Evil: Extinction (2007).

Shawn’s participation in a 7 days, 575 miles bike ride is
recorded as she tries, in some measure, to replicate Bob’s
everyday battles and his everyday victories. HIV positive
speaker and AIDS activist Bob Bowers, also known simply
as “Da Pirate”, has been living with and surviving AIDS for
27 years. Bob started as youth HIV/AIDS educator with
peer education programs in Los Angeles shortly after his
diagnosis. Bob founded the nonprofit HIV/AIDS educational organization HIVictoriuos Inc. in 2005. HIVictorius

BBC2, ITV, Channel 4 as well as PBS in America. Pooley’s

La storia di Sarah e Veronica è diventata un fenomeno grazie alla diffusione, tramite
internet, di una miriade di filmati estratti dal Live del Grande Fratello. Su YouTube, nei
mesi tra gennaio e febbraio 2010, era possibile trovare migliaia di filmati con protagoniste le due gieffine. Appena le due venivano riprese dalle telecamere del GF, ecco che
in rete apparivano nuovi filmati: un continuo aggiornamento su quello che accadeva all’interno della Casa. Tutto questo accadeva sul Canale di Mari, una ragazza di 17 anni che,
con l’aiuto di altre ragazze, aveva cominciato a postare i filmati sul Tubo. In pochi giorni,
la storia di Sarah e Veronica ha fatto il giro del globo. Grazie anche ad un fortunato post
(274 pagine di commenti) sul sito AfterEllen.com (il più importante punto di riferimento
per la visibilità lesbica al mondo). In quei mesi, il web parlava in italiano. Il Canale di
Mari per diverse settimane è stato tra i 50 canali più visitati al mondo, con migliaia di
accessi, nel frattempo che si moltiplicavano i video delle due ragazze con i dialoghi tradotti in inglese, spagnolo, portoghese e francese, giapponese e persino arabo.
Diversamente Etero (diversamente means “unlike “ and
etero “straight”) is a documentary about lesbian visibility
in the Italian media. The starting point is the story of
Sarah and Veronica, two housemates on the Italian Big
Brother, and the huge number of fans they have, not only
in Italy, but all around the world. Sarah and Veronica are
two beautiful, young girls that, during their stay in the
house of Big Brother, fell in love with each other, sharing
a “kind of love”, kissing each other and constantly repeating “ti amo” (I love you).

Sex is an Epidemic racconta le sfide personali, politiche e strutturali che hanno sempre ostacolato gli sforzi di educatori e attivisti della comunità LGBT per contenere il
dilagare dell’infezione da HIV negli Stati Uniti. È una storia avvincente dei devastanti
primi giorni dell’epidemia di New York, quando gli uomini con “GRID” (Gay-related immune deficiency) erano persone stigmatizzate che morivano rapidamente di una terrificante nuova malattia. Pochi concetti hanno avuto un impatto così grande sulla
sessualità nel corso degli ultimi 30 anni come quello di “sesso sicuro.” Ma, come concetto, è importante ricordare due cose: in primo luogo, il sesso sicuro doveva essere inventato in mezzo alla allarmante mancanza di informazioni che esisteva prima della
scoperta del virus HIV nel 1984; e in secondo luogo, il “sesso sicuro” come concetto doveva essere venduto con la sola persuasione continua e creativa dei gruppi di attivisti
e volontari in tutto il paese.

I suoi documentari sono stati presentati in festival internazionali, musei e in TV. Nel
1987, Carlomusto inizia a realizzare video per Gay Men’s Health Crisis (GMHC) dopo un
periodo di lavoro come il proiezionista per i Safer Sex Workshops. I suo documentari,
tutti coprodotti dalla GMHC, hanno contribuito a portare un cambiamento positivo nella
lotta all’epidemia,: tra questi Doctors, Liars and Women, AIDS Activists say no to Cosmo,
Seize Control of the FDA, e Safer Sex Shorts. È stata della membro della Testing the Limits AIDS Video Collective, e del gruppo di sotegno Act Up New York, DIVA TV. Il suo
altare video interattivo, Offerings, che commemora gli attivisti AIDS, è stato esposto
al Fowler Museum di Los Angeles,al Museo della Città di New York, ed è stato in tournée in Sud Africa come parte del Make Art/Stop AIDS project. Insegna Media Arts alla
Long Island University.
Sex is an Epidemic is a pioneering documentary that explores the personal, political and structural challenges that
have continually hampered the best efforts of HIV educators and community groups to curb HIV infection rates in
the United States. It is a compelling history of the devastating early days of the epidemic in NYC, when men with
“GRID” (Gay-related immune deficiency) were a stigmatized population that died swiftly of a terrifying new disease. Few concepts have had as great an impact on
sexuality over the past 30 years as that of “safer sex.” Yet,
as a concept, it is important to remember two things: first,
safer sex had to be invented amidst an alarming lack of
information that existed before the discovery of HIV in
1984; and second, safer sex as a concept had to be sold by
the persistent and creative persuasion of community-based
groups all across the country.

Her documentaries have been exhibited internationally in
festivals, museums and on television. In 1987, Carlomusto
began making videos for Gay Men’s Health Crisis after a stint
as the projectionist for their Safer Sex Workshops. Her GMHC
co-productions have helped to bring about positive change
in the face of the epidemic, and include Doctors, Liars and
Women, AIDS Activists say no to Cosmo, Seize Control of the
FDA, and Safer Sex Shorts. She was a member of the Testing
the Limits AIDS Video Collective and the Act Up NY affinity
group, DIVA TV. Her interactive video altar, Offerings, which
commemorates AIDS activists, has been featured at the

La forza di due testi a comporre la melodia di un’unica storia: un racconto, un resoconto, una confessione, un ricordare pregno di dettagli, come solo una madre sa fare quando
con le parole si crede di donare un fiato in più ad un figlio che muore.”Morning has broken - Una vita spezzata” vuole dire che Matthew Shepard è morto. Che un ragazzo di ventun anni è stato ucciso. I suoi assassini sono suoi coetanei: lo hanno derubato, picchiato,
torturato. Per un unico motivo: Matthew era gay. Con un unico movente: l’omofobia.
Otto attori danno voce a molteplici personaggi, vicini ciascuno alla vicenda del giovane, sebbene con ruoli, intenzioni ed intensità diverse, e lo fanno sotto lo sguardo e
la guida accorta di Vladimir Luxuria, nel ruolo di una madre che di quei volti, fatti, ricordi, dolori ne ha fatto il manifesto per una storia che ha tanto da insegnare e che non
merita di essere dimenticata.
Esattamente cinque settimane dopo la morte di Matthew Shepard, Moises Kaufman e
alcuni membri della sua compagnia Tectonic Theater Project andarono a Laramie, nel
Wyoming, la città in cui avvenne il terribile e violento episodio. Realizzarono circa 200
interviste agli abitanti e a una parte di coloro che furono coinvolti nella vicenda, prima
e dopo l’assassinio. Da queste interviste fu scritto un testo teatrale intitolato “The Laramie Project”, in assoluto uno dei testi più rappresentati oggi in tutto il Nord America.
Alcuni mesi fa è uscita negli Stati Uniti una biografia di Matthew Shepard scritta da sua
madre Judy. Da qui l’elaborazione dei due testi curata da Massimo Stico che già cinque
anni fa aveva messo in scena, in forma molto semplice, “The Laramie Project” con il titolo“Le luci di Laramie”.
Così è nato “Morning has broken – Una vita spezzata” che prende il titolo da una famosa canzone di Cat Stevens, la preferita di Matthew. Un mattino alle cinque i genitori
furono svegliati dalla telefonata che comunicava loro il tragico ricovero del figlio in
coma; il mattino del 12 ottobre 1998 Matthew morì nell’ospedale di Fort Collins.
Lo spettacolo è presentato in forma di oratorio, solenne, essenziale, in uno spazio
scenico nudo , privo di scenografia: otto sedie, otto microfoni, un leggio, uno sfondo
bianco, un video.

Benzina: una storia d’amore pulp e noir. Stella è cresciuta in mezzo all’odore inebriante
di un distributore di benzina e alla generosità rozza dei camionisti. Lenni viene da una
famiglia borghese dove regna la convenzione e l’ipocrisia. Le due ragazze ventenni vivono e si amano in questa oasi felice. Lenni decide di svelarsi alla madre. Ne nasce un
litigio nel quale Stella interviene in difesa della ragazza che ama e in un impeto di rabbia fracassa la testa alla madre con una chiave inglese. Lottando contro l’angoscia e la
rabbia le due ragazze cercheranno per tutta la notte di ingegnarsi per far sparire il cadavere e continuare il loro amore di sempre. La madre, che ricompare fantasma, le accompagnerà con ironico cinismo in questo loro cammino non privo di ostacoli.
Benzina è il travolgente romanzo d’esordio di Elena Stancanelli, scrittrice fiorentina
che ha studiato all’Accademia d’Arte Drammatica di Roma; ambiente che diventa lo
sfondo del suo secondo libro di successo “Le attrici”, ambedue pubblicati da Einaudi.
La riduzione teatrale del romanzo è di Daniele Falleri, regista e autore pisano trasferitosi a Roma dove lavora sia in teatro che in televisione a fianco di artisti prestigiosi come
Nino Manfredi, Franca Valeri, Paolo Villaggio, Giampiero Ingrassia e Urbano Barberini.

In scena tre dei nove racconti che compongono il libro di Giancarlo Pastore “Io non
so chi sei”.
Personaggi e storie che si muovono tra solitudini, scelte decisive, lutti, storie ironiche e divertenti, ipocrisie familiari, ricerca di sé stessi.
“Io non so chi sei” si confronta con la società e i suoi pregiudizi e, nel frastuono di
denunce urlate, di violenze mediatiche e non, di falsi e veri moralismi, mantiene l´equilibrio e scende nell’animo mostrando in tutta la sua vulnerabilità e durezza un mondo
spesso interpretato per stereotipi.
Un uomo s’invaghisce di un fioraio e ne nasce una strana relazione in cui le parole
sono sostituite da un complesso linguaggio di omaggi floreali, dalle romantiche avances ai perfidi insulti. Un giovane universitario si reca a Los Angeles per mettersi nelle
mani di un santone che gli ha promesso di guarirlo dalla sua omosessualità: incontrerà
terremoti, serpenti e soprattutto bei ragazzi. Un ragazzo, turbato dalla malattia del
possibile compagno, si sfoga con l’inquilina del piano di sopra, un travestito che ha sostituito il mondo reale con le canzoni di Mina.
A dar voce – nel vero senso della parola – a quest’umanità al tempo stesso semplice
ed eccentrica, sono stati chiamati due valenti attori cantanti: il giovane ma già apprezzato Nicola Pecci, ed il bravissimo e poliedrico Gennaro Cannavacciuolo, da molti
anni un vero e proprio beniamino del pubblico del Teatro di Rifredi.

I fantasmi hanno forme indistinte, evanescenti, a volte opache: in ogni caso è difficile
immaginare uno spettro con i tratti del volto ben definiti.
Il volto è identità, gli occhi una finestra sull’anima, da cui l’anima fuoriesce e si manifesta al mondo.
Il fatto di chiudere le palpebre ai defunti forse è paura di vedere, dalle pupille immobili, l’abisso, e dall’abisso essere osservati.
I fantasmi hanno andature bizzare. Stare in piedi, dritti verso la realtà, non è una loro
prerogativa.
I fantasmi vivono in una dimensione ambigua, avvolti da una luce insolita.
“Back on marble” è il racconto di uno spazio di corpi senz’anima, lontani dalla storia,
senza identità.
Dietro, sul marmo, vediamo poco. Dietro, sul marmo, c’è tutto quanto basta a non essere niente, se non icone corporali sospese nel limbo universale del nascere, crescere,
e morire.
E poi, e solo, e sempre: il corpo.
E poi, è solo, è sempre: il corpo.
Il dolore, il piacere, la vita, la morte. Tutto passa per il corpo.
E dietro, sul marmo, solo le icone corporali di anime lontane, piegate per la via del deserto.

Eventi Music Pool e Florence Queer Festival presentano il duo Fred Hersch e Nico Gori
(pianoforte e clarinetto), evento di chiusura dell’ottava edizione del Florence Queer Festival 2010.
Fred Hersch, pianista e compositore, e Nico Gori, clarinettista, saxofonista e compositore, insieme in una collaborazione che si pone l’obiettivo di scavalcare i confini dettati dai generi musicali, spaziando da atmosfere classiche ai suoni della contemporaneità,
dalla canzone alla totale improvvisazione, senza alcun pregiudizio o clichè.
Il sodalizio musicale ed umano tra Hersch e Gori nasce dalla voglia reciproca di fare
musica insieme; musica nel senso più alto e nobile; musica che si snoda ovunque ella
desideri andare, accompagnata dal fine pianismo di Fred Hersch e dal suono morbido dei
legni di Nico Gori.
Il duo ha già al suo attivo concerti in Europa e in America, tra cui Porgy and Bess a
Vienna, Sunset/Sunside a Parigi, Kitano’s e The Falcon a New York, dove ha riscosso notevole successo di pubblico e critica.
Hersch è un attivo sostenitore della lotta contro l’AIDS,sia come portavoce appassionato che come promotore per le raccolte fondi:una causa a cui è particolarmente
sensibile vista la sua stessa lotta contro l’HIV che dura ormai da oltre vent’anni. Ha
prodotto ed eseguito quattro album per scopi benefici e numerosi concerti di beneficenza a favore dell’associazione Classical Action-Performing Arts Against AIDS e della
Broadway Cares Equità Fights AIDS.

Una voce profonda avvolta in un mix di calde sonorità acustiche e acide incursioni
elettriche, atmosfere western scandite da ritmiche ossessive, liriche visionarie come un
miraggio su distese i sabbia.
Fondato a Firenze nel 1997 il progetto Rio Mezzanino ha sperimentato negli anni un
intreccio fra mondi musicali mai troppo lontani per contaminarsi (rock, folk, indie, elettronica), con riferimenti al rock americano, ai cantautori degli anni ‘60-’70 fino ad oggi
(De Andrè, Doors, Tom Waits, Pj Harvey, Calexico) e a sonorità più contemporanee (Massive Attack, Air, Portishead).
Nel 2007 hanno vinto il Demo Award di Radio Rai1 consegnato al Meeting delle Etichette Indipendenti di Faenza. Nell’aprile 2008 è uscito “Economy with Upgrade”, il
primo LP, dove morbide noir-ballad, sapori di bossa e ritmi da cavalcata leggera si mescolano con andature solenni, distorsioni da deserto messicano e danze gitane (produzione Danza Cosmica e Rio Mezzanino, cover illustration & graphic design Igort,
distribuzione Audioglobe). Nel dicembre 2008 hanno realizzato “The Sky Underground.
Songs for the living and the dead”, uno spettacolo che fonde musica, cinema e teatro
(regia e montaggio di Andrea Montagnani e Dimitri Chimenti).
Nel 2010 è stato autoprodotto il nuovo EP “Together to get out” , il videoclip dal singolo “Sleep together” (regia e cooproduzione Alessandra Gori, fotografia Michele Nassuato) e il film-documentario “Cancelli di fumo” (regia Francesco Bussalai, produzione
Regione Autonoma della Sardegna) con la colonna sonora dei Rio Mezzanino.
