THE 2016 CALENDAR
IL CALENDARIO 2016
The “liturgical year” denotes when Feasts, Memorials,
Commemorations, and Solemnities are to be observed and which
portions of Scripture are to be read.
For the 2016 Liturgical Year the Sunday readings are
Year C and the weekday readings are from Year II.
The liturgical colors that mark the different
seasons and observances are indicated on the dates
in each month: Green for Ordinary Time; White/
Gold for the seasons of Easter and Christmas, feasts
of Our Lord, Mary, angels, and saints who are not
martyrs; Red for Pentecost, martyrs, and feasts
of the apostles and evangelists; Purple/Violet for
Advent and Lent. Highlighted boxes throughout
the year mark special commemorations for the
Precious Blood family.
In this calendar issue we have included December
2015 to encompass the whole Jubilee Year of Mercy
that begins December 8, 2015 and concludes with the Feast
of Christ the King, November 20, 2016.

Consiste del ciclo dei tempi liturgici con solennità, feste, memoriali
e commemorazioni di Santi e letture dalla Bibbia a ciclo.
Per il 2016 le letture della Domenica saranno dell’Anno
C; nei giorni feriali – Anno II.
I colori liturgici per i differenti tempi dell’anno
e ricorrenze sono indicati nella data del giorno: il
Verde è per il tempo ordinario; il Bianco/Giallo
è per i tempi di Natale, Pasqua, feste del Signore,
della Madonna, degli Angeli e dei santi non
martiri; il Rosso è per la Pentecoste, feste degli
Apostoli, evangelisti e dei martiri; il Viola è
usato nell’Avvento e nella Quaresima. Le caselle
evidenziate durante l’anno riportano feste speciali
per la Famiglia del Sangue Prezioso.
In questo calendario abbiamo incluso Dicembre
2015 per presentare l’intero Anno Giubilare della
Misericordia che inizia l’8 Dicembre e finisce il 20 Novembre,
2016, Festa di Cristo Re.

Stream of Mercy
ope Francis has proclaimed a Year of Mercy in the
Extraordinary Jubilee, to renew the face of the church, the
body of Christ, and each individual believer to be the living image of
mercy in our world today as Jesus was the living image of God’s mercy
while on earth. He encourages us to delve in, to take a plunge, “to be
steeped in mercy, so that we can go out to every man and woman,
bringing the goodness and tenderness of God!”1 As Jesus’ mercy
was manifested to us in parables, works of mercy (miracles) many of which are pictured throughout this calendar- and by the
shedding of his blood on the cross, our commitment to mercy is
real as we reflect on the quotes and implement the suggestions
from the Pope included in this calendar each month. As Jesus
continues in the Eucharist to bestow his mercy on us, may this year
sign for us a path to follow for the rest of our lives.

to focus on the Blood of Christ without which there is no
forgiveness - the stream of mercy – the inspiration for all of us to live
the Spiritual and Corporal Words of mercy in our daily lives.

Fiume di Misericordia
apa Francesco ha proclamato l’Anno della Misericordia con
un Giubileo Straordinario, per rinnovare la Chiesa, il corpo
di Cristo, e ogni individuo credente ad essere l’immagine vivente di
misericordia nel mondo di oggi come Gesù fu l’immagine vivente
della misericordia di Dio mentre era sulla terra. Ci incoraggia ad
approfondire, a tuffarci, ad essere “immersi nella misericordia,
ed incontrare ogni uomo e donna, portando loro la bontà e
tenerezza di Dio!”1 Come la misericordia di Gesù ci fu rivelata
in parabole, opere di misericordia (miracoli) – molti dei quali
sono riportati in questo calendario - e nello spargimento del suo
sangue sulla croce, il nostro impegno per la misericordia è reale
se riflettiamo sulle citazioni ed implementiamo i suggerimenti
del Papa inclusi in questo calendario ogni mese. Come Gesù
continua nell’Eucaristia ad elargire la sua misericordia su di noi, possa
quest’anno delineare il sentiero da seguire per il resto della nostra vita.

The logo for the Jubilee Year of Mercy, created by Jesuit
Father Marko Rupnik, features Jesus taking upon
his shoulders the lost soul. The image also shows
one of Jesus’ eyes merged with the man’s to
show how “Christ sees with the eyes of Adam,
and Adam with the eyes of Christ.”
The motto on the logo - “Merciful
Like the Father” – is an invitation to follow
the example of the Father who asks us not
to judge or condemn but to give love and
forgiveness without measure.

raditionally, a Jubilee begins with the
opening of the Holy Doors at the papal
basilicas in Rome and around the world at the
same time. This year, on December 8th, the Holy
Year will begin with the opening of the Holy Door
of St. Peter’s in Rome. Then the following Sunday
the Holy Door of the Basilica of St. John Lateran
will be opened and in the following weeks the Holy
Doors of the other Papal basilicas. The opening of
the doors in sequence represents the pilgrimage
each believer has to undertake to receive God’s
mercy.

porta sulle spalle un’anima persa. Gesù e l’uomo
che porta sulle spalle hanno in comune un
occhio per dire che “Cristo vede con gli occhi
di Adamo, e Adamo con gli occhi di Gesù.”
Il motto del logo – “Misericordioso come
il Padre” – è un invito a seguire l’esempio
del Padre che ci chiede di non giudicare e
condannare ma di perdonare e di amare

radizionalmente, il Giubileo inizia con
l’apertura della Porta Santa delle basiliche
papali a Roma e in tutto il mondo allo stesso tempo.
Quest’anno, l’otto di dicembre, l’Anno Santo inizia
con l’apertura della Porta Santa in San Pietro, a
Roma. La domenica successiva la Porta Santa della
Basilica di San Giovanni in Laterano sarà aperta e
la settimana seguente le porte delle altre basiliche
papali e chiese nel mondo. L’apertura delle porte
in sequenza rappresenta il pellegrinaggio ogni
credente deve intraprendere per accedere alla
misericordia di Dio.

VEN. JOHN MERLINI
ohn Merlini, the third Moderator General of the
Missionaries of the Precious Blood, was captivated
by the zeal of St. Gaspar, whom John XXIII called “the
greatest apostle of the Precious Blood.” Merlini was
attracted by Precious Blood spirituality as the means
of his own sanctification and the tool of his ministry.

MASS ASSOCIATION
The church enjoins on all the faithful the charitable obligation to
pray for the living and the dead. An ideal way to do this is through
the Mass Association, a remembrance in 4000 Masses offered by the
Missionaries of the Precious Blood for all those enrolled, living or

iovanni Merlini, terzo moderatore Generale dei
Missionari del Preziosissimo Sangue, fu conquistato
dallo zelo di San Gaspare, che Giovanni XXIII chiamò
“Il più grande apostolo del Sangue di Cristo.” Merlini
fu attratto dalla spiritualità del Sangue Prezioso, mezzo
della sua santificazione e strumento del suo ministero.
