Education
• 2004 PhD in Computer Science at DISI, University of Genova.
PhD Thesis: ”Kernel Methods for Unsupervised Learning” defended on
May 28th 2004. Supervisor: Prof. Alessandro Verri.
The thesis was evaluated excellent by the examiners (Professors Vittorio
Murino, Marcello Pelillo, Paola Giannini) and the external reviewer (Dr.
Massimiliano Pontil).
The thesis was awarded with Eduardo R. Caianiello Award 2005, promoted by Italian Neural Network Society, for the best PhD. Thesis in
neural networks and machine learning.

d’Informatica e Scienze dell’Informazione (DISI) of the University of Genova, Italy, under the supervision of the Professor Alessandro Verri. I
worked on Clustering with Kernel Methods.
• From 1997 to 2000 I worked in a 3-year research project (1000K Euro),
funded by Italian University and Scientific Research Ministery, on cursive
handwriting recognition based on neural networks.
• From 1992 to 1995, I worked in the 3-year First National Research Plan for
Bioelectronics (3000K Euro) funded by Italian University and Scientific
Research Ministery. I researched on the application of neural networks for
State Estimation and Identification in thermoelectrical plants, Predictive
Control, Time Series Prediction.
• From May 1987 to January 2006 I was in Elsag spa. (May 1987- March
2000: Central R&D Department; April 2000-January 2006: Automation
Division)
I have 61 publications, consisting in 1 book, 20 articles on international journals, 2 on national journals, 9 on LNCS/LNAI Series, 4 book reviews, 18 on
