Sappiamo tutti che le tecniche di comunicazione sono migliorate. Oggi ci sono altri
mezzi di comunicazione che i giovani conoscono e utilizzano benissimo e in modo
ossessivo:Internet, cellulari, facebook, twitter ecc. Se da un lato le nuove tecnologie
hanno velocizzato la comunicazione, è pur vero che esse hanno modificato i
comportamenti degli adolescenti, e non solo, ed hanno trasformato i loro rapporti
socio-affettivo-relazionali, ma ancor peggio li hanno disabituati a scrivere e a
sviluppare e/o potenziare la creatività. In altre parole, le lettere scompariranno? Ci
auguriamo di no. Anzi, è nostra convinzione che per i ragazzi che studiano le lingue
straniere imparare a scrivere lettere agli amici di penna è importante, perché esso
rimane il modo più personale per comunicare. Scrivendo lettere, l’uomo può
“guardarsi” dentro e riflettere su se stesso. Non dobbiamo dimenticare che per
imparare l'inglese, gli amici di penna sono fondamentali per fornire uno stimolo in più
alla scrittura in lingua straniera. Avere un amico di penna aiuta a migliorare le
competenze linguistiche, perché è una forma di sviluppo culturale. Comunicare con altri
giovani di tutto il mondo significa, sicuramente, ampliare gli orizzonti culturali e umani
degli studenti.
Diverse sono le tipologie di lettera e i linguaggi che si usano per scriverle: lettera di
ringraziamento, di informazione, di scuse, invito, formale ed informale, ecc.
Per agevolare il tuo lavoro, si riportano di seguito le parti fondamentali della struttura
di una tipica lettera inglese:

Suggerimenti per scrivere una lettera:
Tieni presente qual è la tipica intestazione della lettera.
Leggi più volte la traccia ed individua l’argomento principale leggendo spesso
la consegna.
Concentrati sul corpo della lettera e segui la traccia il più fedelmente
possibile. Ricordati che puoi aggiungere informazioni, ma non ometterle.
Sviluppa un argomento alla volta e vai a capo dopo ciascun paragrafo.
A lavoro ultimato, non dimenticare i saluti finali e la firma.
Formula frasi semplici tenendo presente la struttura della frase inglese:

Utilizza uno stile informale con short forms dei verbi, esclamazioni, ecc.
Esprimi sempre il soggetto, perché in inglese non può mai essere omesso.
Fai attenzione all’uso dei tempi verbali, dei linkers, delle preposizioni e dei pronomi
Scrivi in modo chiaro e leggibile.
Controlla la grammatica e l’ortografia.
Rileggi con attenzione e verifica la punteggiatura.
Confronta sempre il testo con la traccia data.

Tell him all about yourself:

Dear James,
Hello ! How are you ?
My name’s Paolo. I’m thirteen years old . I’m Italian, and I live in
Rome. It is the capital city of Italy and is rich in monuments and
interesting places to visit, such as The Vatican , the Coliseum , the
Trevi Fountain and many others . I go to Sandro Pertini middle
school , here in Rome, and I’m in the third year. There are 20
students in my class, 10 girls and 10 boys. We study lots of subjects
like Italian, History, Geography, English, French, Maths, Art, Music,
Technology, P.E., and R.E. I love studying History and Geography, I
think they are very interesting, but I hate studying Maths,
Technology and French. They’re boring !!! I’m studying hard these
days, because I have to take my exams in June. If I pass them, I’m
going to attend Secondary High School.
I’ve got a big family: my mum, my dad, my twin brothers , my sister
and me. My mum’s name’s Giulia. She’s 45 and works in a hospital ,
my dad’s name’s Alessandro. He’s 48 and works in a bank. My twin
brothers are 10 and their names are Leo and Christian. My sister’s
name’s Simona and she’s 7 years old. They all go to Primary
School but they’re in different classes. I’ve got a pet dog. He’s a
Yorkshire. He’s two years old and his name’s Billy. I like sports and
my favourite is football. I love listening to music . I usually listen to
rap and pop music and my favourite singers are Jovanotti and
Michael Jackson.
What about you ? Do you like music ? Who’s your favourite singer ?
In my spare time, I love reading book s and surf the Internet. I love
going to the cinema, too, especially at the weekends. I like action
films, and I don’t mind watching comedies. Do you like going to the

hobbies ?
