a Kjolur è una strada che attraversa l’Islanda. È la seconda strada per lunghezza degli altopiani
Islandesi. Ci vogliono circa 5 ore per percorrerla in automobile. Parte nella zona sud dell’Islanda
vicino alla città di Haukadalur, corre lungo le cascate Gullfoss e finisce al nord vicino a Blonduos. La
strada all’interno del territorio attraversa due ghiacciai, Langjokull e Hofjokull. La via era conosciuta fin dai tempi dei primi insediamenti costituiti in Islanda e risulta menzionata nelle saghe della
tradizione islandese. A ovest dell’attuale via si trova la vecchia Kjalvegur, ancora oggi utilizzata per
trekking e cavalcate. Cumuli di pietre indicano la vecchia strada attraverso il deserto. ● The Kjölur is
a highland road that crosses Iceland. It is the second longest road of the Icelandic highlands . It takes about
5 hours to travel by car. It begins in the south of Iceland near the town of Haukadalur, runs along the Gullfoss
waterfalls and ends in the north near Blönduós. The road traverses, within the territory, two glaciers, Langjökull and Hofsjökull. The track was known since the time of the first settlements established in Iceland and
it is mentioned in the sagas of the Icelandic tradition. To the west of the actual road lies the old Kjalvegur,
which is still in use for trekking and horse-riding. Piles of stones indicate the old route through the desert.
