ECO-Innovation - Bruxelles 29 gennaio 2010
A conference on benefiting from EU research projects organized by the ECOINNO2SME
('Supporting small and medium-sized enterprises in disseminating and exploiting research
results') project will be held in Brussels, Belgium on 29 January 2010.
Success stories and examples of best practice will be presented and organizations will have

Eu-MED Event 3 Conference on e-Infrastructures across the Mediterranean – Brussels, 3031 March 2010
Building on the success of the previous EU-Med Events, this conference aims to bring
forward the discussion about the availability of sustainable, leading-edge, integrated ICTbased infrastructures for the research and education community in the Mediterranean
region, and the collaboration with the EU.
E-Infrastructures are widely considered a key enabler for scientific, industrial and social
development; the programme features VIP speakers, who will provide insights into both the
economic and policy aspects of the issue.
The conference will bring together invited policy makers and civil servants from relevant
ministries and institutions, as well as executives from international organizations such as the
European Commission, the Arab League, UN agencies, private companies and foundations.
Under the patronage of the European Commission, the EU-Med 3 Event is jointly hosted by
three sponsoring projects that foster the creation of e-infrastructures in the Mediterranean
region: EUMEDCONNECT2, EUMEDGRID-Support and the Development Support activity of
GÉANT, all co-funded by the European Commission. The event will be organised by the
managers of the sponsoring projects with support from their Mediterranean and European
partners.
The event will be held at the International Auditorium, Boulevard du Roi Albert II 5, Brussels,
Belgium. Further information about the venue and travel arrangements and the updated
conference programme can be found at http://www.terena.org/eumedevent3/

We are the innovation development unit, one of the units dedicated for improving the
quality of research at the Egyptian Holding Company for Biological Products and
Vaccines (VACSERA) located in Cairo,Egypt.
In fact our group is very much interested in the production of several types of vaccines,
specially Malaria vaccines, since Malaria is considered one of the commonest
infectious diseases in the tropics, affecting more than 200 million people and killing
more than 3 million every year, also due to the increased resistance of the parasite to
the antimalarial drugs as well as vector mosquitoes to insecticides, it is very important
to make safe and life-saving Malaria vaccine that will play a major role in future
malaria interventions.

The National Research Centre (NRC) is the largest research centre for science and technology
in the Middle East to serve the national, regional and international cooperation including
technology transfer and membrane technology. It is a research governmental non-profit
organization, established in 1956 in Cairo. It consists of 14 inter-disciplinary research institutes
devoted to different R&D projects; organisation of conventions and symposia, as well as
education, formation NRC conducted more than 5,450 successful R&D projects since its
foundation. NRC has over 3250 highly skilled academic full-time employees (professors, Ph.D.
holders, scientists and engineers). The annual turnover ranged from 4.3 to 8.7 million Euros.
NRC includes several technical pilot plants for water, municipal and industrial scale processes,
soil, agriculture, experimental large land areas as well as well equipped laboratories. One of the
NRC large Institutes is the Environmental Research (ERI), Soil & Water (S & W), Agriculture
& Botany Departments with over 150 Ph.D. holders, beside assistances and Post-Graduate
researchers. The ERI has successfully undertaken several national, regional and international
projects funded by Egypt, EC, USA, Canada and BMFB.

Zer0-M aims at concepts and technologies to achieve optimised close-loop usage of
all water flows in small municipalities or settlements (e.g. tourism facilities) not
connected to a central wastewater treatment - the Zero Outflow Municipality (Zer0-M).
Several technologies are already available, which allow efficient wastewater treatment
and re-use without hygienic risks on a low-cost and easy-to-handle level. These
include sanitation systems with low water consumption, separation of grey- and
blackwater, biological treatment of grey water and reuse for non-drinking purposes
(e.g. irrigation), bio-membrane reactors for intensive treatment, constructed wetlands
for extensive treatment, sludge-hygienisation for re-use as fertiliser. These wastewater
technologies to be applied to MEDA areas of the southern Mediterranean and Middle
East countries.
Promotion and focussing of current research activities of Membrane
Technology in Water Treatment / PROMEMBRANE, FP6-2002-INCO-MPC-SSA-2
The primary objective of PROMEMBRANE is to support the current research and
development activities in membrane technology focussed on water treatment in the
Mediterranean area, providing an international stage to local research organisations
and universities devoted to the development of membrane technologies in the
following areas: municipal and industrial wastewater treatment, surface water
purification and brackish and sea water treatment for drinking purpose. The ending
results of the action should be: diffusion and dissemination of successful experiences
and research activities being currently carried out, through the organisation of the two
regional contests “PROMEMBRANE Young Scientist Award” along the frame of the
two regional Fairs in Egypt and Syria and an international conference in Tunisia,
encouraging and promoting further research activities in membrane technologies.
