ISTITUTION
Nel 1938 dal progetto originario denominato E42, sotto la direzione
dell’Architetto Marcello Piacentini, nacque il quartiere dell’EUR (Esposizione Universale di Roma), nella toponomastica del Comune di
Roma denominato quartiere Europa.
The Rome district called Eur (Universal Exposition Rome) was born
in 1938 from the original project called E42, under the direction of
the famous architect, Marcello Piacentini. Eur has been also called
“Europe district”.
Armoniosa fusione tra l’ispirazione ad un modello di urbanistica classica dell’impero romano dove il marmo bianco e il travertino ricordano
i templi e gli edifici della maestosa Roma imperiale, e gli elementi del
Razionalismo Italiano, con i suoi assi ortogonali ed edifici architettonici maestosi ed imponenti, massicci e squadrati, il quartiere dell’Eur
risulta da un punto di vista architettonico uno dei quartieri più moderni
al mondo.
Eur can be defined an harmonious fusion between the inspiration to
a classic roman empire urban model, where the largest use of marble
with travertine remembers the ancient majestic Imperial Roman temples and buildings, and the Italian rationalism elements, with their perpendicular axis and with architectural majestic buildings and imposing
that make the district, under an architecturally point of view, one of the
most modern in the world.
Il centro dinamico gravitazionale da cui si snodano le arterie stradali
principali dell’Eur è la rappresentativa Piazza Guglielmo Marconi, dedicata ad uno dei più importanti inventori italiani della modernità.
Al centro della piazza si erge il simbolo inconfondibile dell’Eur: l’obelisco. Tutto in marmo bianco, con i suoi 44 metri, è l’assoluto dominatore della piazza e punto di riferimento urbanistico per tutte le attività
che operano nella zona.
The representative Guglielmo Marconi square is the dynamic gravitational center of this area in which all the main roads of Eur cross and
it has been dedicated to one of the most Italian important inventors of
modernity. The obelisk, unmistakable symbol of Eur district, stands in
the middle of this square. It has been completely realized in white marble and, with its 44 meter height, it is the absolute “ruler” of the square
and it is also the main urban point of reference for all the commercial
and business activities in the surrounding areas.
Presso il Palazzo dell’Arte Antica che si affaccia su Piazza Guglielmo
Marconi, al primo piano sorge un grande salone rettangolare di rappresentanza a tutta altezza, definito nei lati più corti da due coppie
monumentali di colonne rivestite in pregiato marmo di Portoro dal colore scuro con fiammate dorate: Spazio Novecento.
In the ancient Art Palace, which overlooks Guglielmo Marconi square,
there is a large rectangular hall on the first floor, delimitated in the
shortest sides with two pairs of monumental columns eleven meters
high made of fine dark Portoro marble with suggestive golden flames.
This space is now called Spazionovecento.
