MALAMUTE DAY
Il Malamute Day è la festa di tutti gli appassionati della razza in Italia, che si ritrovano annualmente per 3 giorni sulla neve con i propri cani e si divertono tutti insieme con le slitte , messe a disposizione dallo staff o proprie, con il supporto di musher qualificati, con percorsi in dog trekking e con momenti di approfondimento con seminari su svariate tematiche, visite veterinarie , educatori cinofili a disposizione per qualsiasi problematica e tanto altro.
La manifestazione è arrivata ormai alla 9° edizione, che si svolgerà il prossimo gennaio 2013, è cresciuta di importanza, impatto e presenze ed è divenuta ciò che agli inizi era solo una ardita idea.
Una decina di anni fa infatti ci chiedemmo cosa fosse più importante fare per divulgare questa magnifica razza correttamente, facendone conoscere ed esaltare le peculiarità di cane da lavoro e del suo carattere di cane da muta. Esisteva ed esiste ancora infatti il pericolo che troppo spesso questo magnifico animale attragga più o solo per il suo meraviglioso aspetto , con il rischio che finisca in mani sbagliate o perlomeno non adatte.
Decidemmo quindi di organizzare questo evento sulla neve, legato al lavoro con le slitte in primis, attività da promuovere in quanto poco o niente conosciuta in generale. Questa manifestazione avrebbe dovuto anche darci la possibilità di radunare tanti soggetti al di fuori del circuito delle esposizioni, permettendo agli allevatori di poter visionare sul campo la progenie prodotta, in contesti assolutamente spontanei. Altra motivazione era quella di creare un movimento malamute e della sua gente, che potesse crescere ed affiancare l'attività del club per renderla più dinamica possibile.
Oggi il Malamute Day rapresenta tutto quello che ci eravamo prefissati; a distanza di anni, la cosa più gratificante e vedere che il solco tracciato dalle prime manifestazioni sia stato seguito da tanti anche privatamente; spontanemente la nostra gente sta iniziando sempre più ad apprezzare il lavoro con i loro cani, a radunarsi autonomamente per gite sulla neve e in dog‐trekking in tutta italia. Nell'ultima edizione , all'interno della manifestazione, è stato organizzato anche un raduno espositivo valido per il campionato italiano di bellezza, con il ring direttamente sulla neve.....e' stato un grande successo, sia numericamente che tecnicamente.
Ogni anno cerchiamo di aggiungere qualcosa di nuovo per rendere il format sempre più gradito e partecipato dai tanti appassionati. Dall'anno scorso vengono organizzate le certificazioni ufficiali per le oculopatie, con l'allestimento direttamente sul posto di un ambulatorio e la presenza di un veterinario specializzato e riconosciuto SOVI.
Il prossimo obbiettivo , speriamo già dal prossimo anno, sarà quello di portare all'interno del Malamute Day l'esecuzione di prove ufficiali di lavoro e test caratteriali, magari al principio in via sperimentale e poi ufficiale.
La grande partecipazione del popolo dei fan del malamute ci stà anche permettendo di raccogliere fondi con la vendita di gadget di vario genere con un fornito ed apprezzato shop a tema; con questi fondi possiamo , come già fatto nel recente passato, organizzare convenzioni per i soci, visite per le oculopatie a prezzo scontatissimo e dal prossimo futuro finanziare anche la ricerca scientifica sul DNA per le malattie che purtroppo non hanno ancora test genetici a cui sottoporre i nostri riproduttori.
Il successo del Malamute Day è divenuto talmente grande da permetterci di organizzare un calendario parallelo di altri eventi durante tutto l'anno , chiamato Seram Working Days, sparsi in giro per l'italia, anche quando la neve non c'è...Il circuito SWD sono 5/6 appuntamenti di weekend di approfondimento, sia sull'educazione dei nostri cani che dog‐trekking. Non da meno è la visibilità mediatica che siamo riusciti a raccogliere, compreso servizi televisivi ed articoli su testate giornalistiche a certificare, sempre nel modo più corretto, la origine ed attitudine di cane da lavoro dei nostri beniamini.
Alla prima edizione ci trovammo in 35 persone e una ventina di cani...nell'ultima edizione i numeri sono 10 volte tanto ...abbiamo avuto partecipazioni di amici dall'estero e da parecchio lontano....e tutto fa pensare e sperare che continueranno ad aumentare, magari con il coinvogimento degli appassionati ed i clubs delle nazioni vicine.
MALAMUTE DAY
Malamute Day is a celebration for malamute lovers held in Italy, who meet annually for three days in the
snow with their dogs and have fun together with sleds either, provided by the staff or participants, with the
support of qualified mushers. Furthermore, there are dog trekking and various seminars relative to
different topics, veterinary visits, dog training and much more.
The event has now arrived to its ninth edition, to be held in January 2013 and has grown in importance,
impact and presence and has become, what was in the beginning just a bold idea, an infallible success.
Ten years ago, in fact we asked ourselves what we should do to promote this wonderful breed, and exalt
its peculiarities as a working dog including its characteristic as a team dog. There was and still is the
danger that too often happens that this magnificent animal will attract more attention for its appearance,
rather than its other qualities with the risk that it ends up in the wrong hands.
So we decided to organize this event in the snow, connected to sled work as, this aspect is not very well
known in general. This event was supposed to give us the opportunity to gather as many dogs us possible
outside of the exhibition circuit , allowing breeders to see their dogs offspring in action in an absolutely
spontaneous context.
Another motivation was to create a movement, which would grow and complement the activities of the
club to make it as dynamic as possible.
Today Malamute Day corresponds to all the goals originally established. After many years, the most
rewarding thing to see is that the path traced from the very first event has been followed by so many;
many of our people are beginning to appreciate the work with their dogs, to autonomously organize
themselves for snow trips and dog-trekking all over Italy.
In the last edition, a dog show, called “ Winter Winner” was also organized and is valid for the Italian
Championship, with the show ring directly on the snow .....needless to say it was a great success, both
numerically and technically.
Each year we try to add something new to make the format more and more enjoyable by our many
friends. Since last year specialized veterinarians (SOVI) have organized official medical visits to exclude,
diagnose and certify eye disease.
Our next goal, hopefully as early as next year, will be to introduce qualifying work and character test
performance, perhaps at first on an experimental basis and then an official basis.
The great number of malamute fans who have participated has also enabled us to raise funds by selling
gadgets of various kinds from our well-stocked theme shop, and with these funds we can, as was done in
the recent past, organize conventions for members, specialist visits to vets for eye related problems at
discounted prices, and in the near future also fund scientific research for diseases and genetic tests to be
used by breeders.
The success of Malamute Day has become so great that we organize a parallel timetable of other events
throughout the year, called SeRAM Working Days, scattered around Italy, even where there is no snow.
The SWD circuit consists of 5/6 weekend appointments for further in depth study, relative to training for
our dogs as well as dog-trekking. Another key factor is the media attention, including television and articles
in newspapers which correctly identify, the origin and attitude of working dogs as pets.
In the first edition there were 35 people and a dozen dogs in the latest edition ... they were 10 times as
many... we had investments from friends from abroad and from a lot far away.... and by all indications and
hope that they will continue to increase, perhaps with the involvement of fans and clubs of neighbouring
nations.
