Bolzano/Bozen, the wine town
Bolzano/Bozen, the wine town 2015 2 Bolzano/Bozen, the wine town Bolzano looks back on a long winegrowing tradition. Today more than 20 private wine estates and one winegrowers’ cooperative produce superlative wines grown on the steep mountainsides and lower vineyards in and around the town. The town’s best-known wines are red, above all the dark and muscular Lagrein and the lighter, fruity St. Magdalener. Spectacular south-east to south-west facing vineyards overlooking the Bolzano valley basin range from cool high altitude locations to warm sites the heart of the town. The hamlet of St. Magdalena and its vineyards with the Dolomites behind is one of the most photographed vinescapes. 3 4th – 7th March 2015 Bolzano Wine Tasting It is the runway for Alto Adige’s best wines and has a longstanding tradition: the 93nd Bolzano Wine Tasting attracts winemakers, sommeliers and wine lovers to the Alto Adige capital. In 2015 the Tasting will take place on a new date in an old location, back again in the historic surroundings of Castel Maretsch. For this exclusive meeting of about 300 labels with the Alto Adige wine scene, winegrowers have put together the best products from their wine cellars, which they will present to wine connoisseurs in the capital of Alto Adige during the Bolzano Wine Tasting. On Wednesday, March 4, the opening of the Bolzano Wine Tasting Festival will be celebrated with an Alto Adige gala dinner where Alto Adige wines will perform next to wonderful delicacies. The first buds burst on the vines in mid April, after which discreet scented blossoms develop quickly and soon become embryonic grape clusters. Throughout the summer the vegetation needs to be kept trimmed and excessive grapes removed. The rest is up to nature, for plenty of sunshine and sufficient rainfall are indispensable to obtain high quality wines. The potential quality of the wine is apparent at harvest time. The grapes are crushed and the juice left to ferment in tanks or casks under the expert and watchful eye of the winemaker. Each winery has its own closely guarded secrets. 11 Tourism Board Piazza Walther 8 39100 Bolzano/Bozen T +39 0471 307000 - F +39 0471 980128 [email protected] www.bolzano-bozen.it 12 Cellars in Bolzano Bozen 1 Winery Bolzano Bozen Winery & Tasting and retail sales Piazza Gries 2, 39100 Bolzano T +39 0471 270909 F +39 0471 289110 www.cantinabolzano.com [email protected] Tasting and retail sales Via Brennero 15, 39100 Bolzano T +39 0471 97 67 33 [email protected] 2 Winery Reyter Christoph Unterhofer Via Eisenkeller 14/b, 39100 Bolzano T +39 0471 271368 www.reyter.it [email protected] 3 Muri-Gries Winery Monastery Cellar Piazza Gries 21, 39100 Bolzano T +39 0471 282287 F +39 0471 273448 www.muri-gries.com [email protected] 4 Wine estate Winery Schmid Oberrautner Florian Schmid Via Michael Pacher 3, 39100 Bolzano T/F +39 0471 281440 www.schmid.bz [email protected] 5 Wine estate Egger Ramer Via Guncina 5, 39100 Bolzano T +39 0471 280541 F +39 0471 406647 www.egger-ramer.com [email protected] 9 Wine estate Heinrichshof Fam.
