Luogo di rara e incontaminata bellezza, il Promontorio di Portofino,
lungo i suoi 13 chilometri di costa, ospita l’Area Marina Protetta
di Portofino, considerata una degli ambienti marini più ricchi di
biodiversità di tutto il Mediterraneo. Un’immersione nelle sue acque
è un’avventura particolare e la visita alla statua sommersa del
Cristo degli Abissi è una delle sue escursioni più famose.
La statua, realizzata dallo scultore Guido Galletti, venne posta nel
1954 nei fondali della baia di San Fruttuoso, a una profondità di
17 metri, grazie alla Marina Militare Italiana. Realizzata in bronzo
con la fusione di elementi navali, medaglie e campane, è alta circa
2,50 metri. Durante la visita della statua è possibile ammirare gli
straordinari organismi animali e vegetali che popolano i fondali
dell’Area Marina Protetta fino ad un profondità massima di -40 mt.
The Promontory of Portofino is a place of rare and pristine
beauty. Its 13 kilometers of coastline host the Marine Protected
Area of Portofino, considered the richest in terms of marine
biodiversity in the whole Mediterranean sea. A dive in its waters
is a stunning experience. The statue of the Christ of the Abyss,
is one of the most popular dives of the Ligurian coast. Molded
by the sculptor Guido Galletti, it was placed in 1954 in the bay
of San Fruttuoso by the Italian Navy. The statue, cast in bronze
extracted by naval medals and bells, is approximately 2.50
meters high and is located at a depth of -18 meters. During the
visit of the statue you can admire the extraordinary marine life
that live in the depths of the Marine Protected Area up to a
maximum depth of -40 m.

I RELITTI DI SESTRI LEVANTE
SESTRI LEVANTE WRECKS
Nel tratto prospicente Sestri Levante sono presenti alcuni relitti
di navi affondate durante la II Guerra Mondiale. In particolare sarà
possibile visitare i relitti della Bettolina o del Cargo Armato adagiate,
ad una profondità compresa tra i 30 e i 35 metri. La Bettolina era
una nave da carico lunga 39 metri che trasportava sacchi di cemento.
Armata con due mitragliatrici, affondata durante un’attacco aereo il
12 febbraio 1944. Il Cargo Armato, il cui vero nome è UJ2207, era un
pescherecio d’altura, requisito dalla Marina Tedesca e trasformato in
un cacciasommergibile armato con mitragliatrici antiaeree e cannoni.
Venne affondato il 19 novembre del 1944 da motosiluranti americane.
In the waterfront of Sestri Levante bay several wrecks of World War
II. During this tour you will visit the wreck of the “Bettolina” or the
“Cargo Armato” that sank at a depth of around 35 meters.
The “Bettolina” was a 40 meters long cargo ship carrying cement
bags, armed with a machine gun, which was sunk during an air
attack on february, 12 1944. The “Cargo Armato”, whose real name
is “Islande Cargo”, was a deep-sea fishing vessel, requisitioned by
the German Navy and converted into a submarine chaser armed
with machine guns and antiaircraft guns. It was sunk by U.S.
torpedo boats on november, 19 1944.

and scientific assistance.
