it s e g n o italiano Storie italiane Gli oggetti raccontano. SItalian Stories Objects tell stories. The story of themselves and of the people who give them as gifts. Segno italiano represents the best of Italy: objects that are rich in imagination, elegance and beauty, that can become effective communication tools. A pen, a bag, a piece of jewellery or a bottle of wine, made with Italian taste and skill, are exactly the kind of object that will make people appreciate and remember you. la carta La carta è fra le materie più flessibili del mondo. E sulle sue facce conserva la storia dell’uomo e i suoi racconti in forma di scrittura, di calcoli, di disegni, di fotografie. paper Paper is one of the world’s most flexible materials. It can be folded to take on a multitude of different shapes, it absorbs all the colours of the spectrum, it can be modest, sumptuous, strong and delicate. On its surface we can preserve the story of humankind and its stories in the form of writing, calculations, drawings and photographs. Paper was invented in China in the 2nd century B.C. and was brought to Sicily by the Arabs. In the 18th century, Fabriano was Europe’s largest paper maker. Paper remained a rare, precious material, though, until the late 19th century, when producers began to use wood pulp instead of rags. s e g n o italiano Anche se il mondo sta diventando digitale, la carta non morirà. Even though we’re living in an increasingly digital world, paper will never die! We’ll always love its feel and texture, its distinctive smell, the sound of its pages turning. We’ll always caress it and carry it around with us. And we’ll always enjoy receiving and giving paper objects as gifts. it s e g n o italiano la pelle La pelle è il materiale lavorato più antico del mondo. L’amiamo perché è calda, forte e sa invecchiare con eleganza. leather Leather is the oldest worked material in the world. Mankind has transformed it into clothing and shoes, furnishings and houses with ever-increasing skill. We love leather because it appeals to our wild side. We like it because it’s warm and strong, and knows how to age with elegance. Prehistoric man immediately realised that animal skins could be useful, but were extremely perishable. It was only by chance that, standing by an open fire or in water full of sticks and leaves, he discovered it could last far longer. He had discovered tanning. Although they are now much more sophisticated, some of these systems are still used today. s e g n o italiano La fantasia e l’abilità italiana hanno trasformato la pelle da prodotto “povero” a simbolo del lusso. Italian imagination and skill have transformed leather goods from “poor” products into symbols of luxury. Wallets or bags, shoes or simple belts, they are always immediately recognisable as Italian products. These prestigious items can also be personalised to become truly exclusive objects of communication. it s e g n o italiano i tessuti Il telaio di Penelope e i telai della rivoluzione industriale, che abbiamo studiato a scuola, non sono molto diversi. E nei secoli abbiamo imparato a farne opere d’arte. fabrics Penelope’s hand loom and the automated looms of the industrial revolution that we studied at school are not all that different. For centuries, we have made our clothing by weaving vegetable fibres, such as linen and cotton, or animal fibres, like wool and silk. And over the centuries we have learnt to transform them into works of art. Essi cambiano l’aspetto del mondo ai nostri occhi e cambiano noi agli occhi del mondo. it s e g n o italiano ...Clothes have more important offices than to merely keep us warm. They change our view of the world and the world’s view of us. Italian fashion brands use fabrics as a sophisticated instrument of communication. A dress, a foulard or even just a handkerchief say more about the person wearing them than a thousand words can ever do. That’s true too when you give a fashion item as a gift, especially when it’s “signed” by a top brand, even better when it’s also signed by you. it s e g n o italiano metalli preziosi Preziosi da migliaia di anni, legati al sole e alla luna, simboli di ricchezza e di potere in moltissime culture, l’oro e l’argento sono i metalli più usati per i nostri gioielli. Ci accompagnano fin dall’infanzia nelle cerimonie e nelle feste, per rappresentare legami e promesse. precious metals Regarded as precious for thousands of years, linked to the earth and the moon, seen by many cultures as symbols of wealth and power, gold and silver are our metals of choice for jewels. They accompany us from childhood, and on through all the ceremonies and celebrations of our lives, representing unions and promises. South America was colonised for its riches, especially its gold and silver. One country had so much silver it took the name of the metal: Argentina. Its capital, Buenos Aires, stands on the banks of the Rio de la Plata, the silver river. s e g n o italiano In Italia, già gli Etruschi lavoravano l’oro e l’argento e nel Rinascimento grandi artisti si cimentarono con l’oreficeria. In ancient Italy the Etruscans already worked gold and silver, and during the Renaissance great artists turned their skills to the jeweller’s art. This tradition has become a source of excellence and today Italian jewellers are appreciated throughout the world for their craftsmanship and masterly design. A precious object is timeless, and never ages. It is an object that bears your mark forever. it s e g n o italiano accessori moda L’identità delle persone è fatta di dettagli: un certo modo di portare una sciarpa, un particolare tipo di occhiali, una borsa con i segni del tempo. Amiamo gli accessori perché ci completano e ci danno gusto, come il sale per le pietanze. fashion accessories Our personal identity is made up of details: a particular way of wearing a scarf, a special pair of glasses, a time-worn bag. We love our accessories because they complete us and add a dash of flavour, like seasoning on food. La moda non è altro che l’eterno ritorno del nuovo. it s e g n o italiano Fashion is nothing other than the eternal return of the new. Fashion accessories are common objects that become precious when they embody creativity, quality and style. By personalising these objects we add the finest attributes of Italian production to our own identity. it s e g n o italiano strumenti di scrittura Scrivere è una delle abilità più importanti dell’uomo perché serve a ricordare, comunicare, ragionare, condividere. Come la gioia del primo astuccio, con quel meraviglioso arcobaleno di matite colorate e di strumenti di scrittura. writing instruments Writing is one of mankind’s most important skills, because it allows us to record, communicate, reason and share. It is one of the first things we are taught at school, and once learned it is never forgotten. Like the joy of our first pencil case, filled with a breath-taking rainbow of crayons and writing instruments! After the fountain pen came the biro. It was named after László Bíró, who noticed how a dirty ball left a mark as it rolled, and in 1943 invented the ballpoint pen. The invention was then perfected by Marcel Bich, who gave his name to the pen that soon became the most widely used in the world. s e g n o italiano Non è un caso che in molti grandi eventi della vita si regali una penna. It’s no coincidence we give a pen to celebrate many great events in our lives, because a pen is the instrument we use to sign our name, to declare our unique identity. That’s why a personalised pen is a symbol of the meeting of two individuals and can be the key to a long relationship. it s e g n o italiano attrezzi da cucina Scegliere gli ingredienti, prepararli, condirli, cuocerli, mescolarli, disporli nei piatti: ogni attività in cucina è un passo verso la realizzazione di un’opera che deve gratificare noi e i nostri ospiti. La cucina è creatività, abilità, cultura, gusto. Per questo cucinare dà così tanto piacere. kitchen instruments Choosing the ingredients, then preparing, cooking, stirring and seasoning them, before arranging them on the plates: everything we do in the kitchen is a step towards a new creation, one of a series of gratifying moments for us and our guests. Cooking means creativity, skill, culture, taste. No wonder it gives us so much pleasure! The fork was invented in China over 2,000 years before the birth of Christ, but arrived in Europe - Venice, to be exact - some 3,000 years later. In 1003 a Venetian Doge married a Byzantine princess who owned one. When she first used it at table in public, she caused a veritable scandal! s e g n o italiano Cucinare è misurarsi con le proprie abilità e queste si esprimono al meglio con gli strumenti giusti. Cooking means gauging your own abilities, and the right instruments provide the best aid to this particular journey of discovery. A sharp knife that allows us to cut with precision, a traditional wooden spoon and a copper saucepan that holds the heat well can all give great joy and satisfaction. it s e g n o italiano regali gustosi La cucina italiana ha girato il mondo con gli italiani, ma si è imposta grazie ai suoi ingredienti caratteristici e alla fantasia che li ha combinati in migliaia di ricette: dai più semplici piatti popolari a sontuose pietanze regali. Poche cose sono più italiane, poche cose danno più piacere. gifts with taste As the Italians have travelled the world, they have always taken their cuisine along with them. People everywhere love it for its typical ingredients and the imaginative flair that combines them into thousands of tempting dishes, from the most simple popular recipes to sumptuous royal banquets. Few things are more Italian, and few things give such great pleasure. The ancient Romans would stretch pasta and cut it into pieces called “làgane”, a term still used in southern Italy, and which has given us the word “lasagne”. Around the year 1,000 the Sicilians were already using instruments that produced a pasta in the form of ribbons or strings - this gave us the word “spaghetti”, meaning “little strings”. italiano L’olio d’oliva, la pasta e il vino sono i simboli stessi dell’Italia, dei suoi colori e sapori e delle sue tante forme e sfumature. Olive oil, pasta and wine are the symbols of Italy itself, its hues and flavours, its many shapes and colours. Then, of course, its cheese and cold meats, sauces, desserts and cakes. These wonderful delicacies, elegantly wrapped and personalised, are a mouth-watering gift and an ideal way to express yourself - and your impeccable taste! it s e g n o italiano eleganti vestizioni L “ a bellezza è una promessa di felicità” scriveva Stendhal. Perhaps that’s why objects wrapped in paper, ribbons and colourful bows make us happy, even before they reveal what they enclose. Beautiful packaging is an instinctive pleasure because, as Oscar Wilde said, “Beauty needs no explanation”. In 1917, a few days before Christmas, a department store in Kansas City sold out of the tissue paper it used to wrap its gifts. So the store manager decided to start selling decorated paper originally designed for other purposes. It was roaring success. Elegant, original clothing is always eye-catching, and well-designed wrapping seduces even before we have seen its contents. Our ideas for boxes and wrapping are always new, original and bespoke, because we know that they are the first contact that sparks off your communication. it s e g n o italiano progetti originali Sembra sempre che non ci sia più niente da inventare, eppure continuiamo a immaginare nuove storie e a creare novità. Costruire, viaggiare, scoprire. Stupirsi e stupire. original projects It always seems there’s nothing left to invent, yet we continue to think up new stories and create new things. That’s what being human is all about: always looking for something different, original, unique. Building, travelling, discovering. Surprising, and being surprised. È il desiderio che crea ciò che è desiderabile, è il progetto che pone il fine. it s e g n o italiano Desire itself creates what is desirable, as every plan foresees its own demise. To create an object that does not as yet exist, your starting point must be reality itself. What characteristics make a person or a company unique? How can these be embodied in an object? That’s the spirit that drives us as we design objects that did not exist before, objects that are destined to become an integral part of your image. it s e g n o italiano Abbiamo collaborato negli anni con....
