TTIP, the end of the free trade between the EU and USA? (Source www.euronews.com) France is to call for an end to negotiations on the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) at a meeting of foreign trade ministers in September. France effectively joins Germany, whose Economy Minister Sigmar Gabriel said that talks on the trade deal being thrashed out between the European Commission and the USA had “de facto failed.” Foreign Minister Frank Walter Steinmeier was more cautious, but admitted work is needed. He said an agreement appears a long way away and confirmed the pace of the discussions remains unclear. USA and EU negotiators are pressing ahead, they say. EU Commission spokesman Margaritis Schinas stressed progress was being made. Egypt halts rice exports (Source: www.middleeastmonitor.com) Egypt decided to halt the exportation of all kinds of rice outside the country this year in order to cover the domestic market’s needs and to keep prices stable. The Egyptian Cabinet decided to purchase long grain rice from farmers for $ 259/tonne and short grain rice for $ 270/tonne. It is expected to receive up to two million tonnes of rice from farmers in the coming period. President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi stressed that it is necessary to cultivate all the area of land allocated to rice growing, and to ban the export of rice in order to ensure lower prices for nationals. Vietnam’s rice exports to EU: making the most of zero tariff (Source: http://e.vnexpress.net/) Vietnam's rice exports will enjoy a zero percent tariff to the European Union from 2018. The free trade agreement between Vietnam and the EU (EVFTA), which comes into effect in 2018, will allow the country to export 100,000 tonnes of rice each year to the EU, quadruple the current figure. Broken rice will be exempt from import duties for seven years with no limit on quantity.
